We hear the heavy burden you are carrying for your neighborhood and for your own household in the midst of this aggressive divorce and domestic violence and sabotage and torment, and we join together with you in prayer to rebuke this spirit of confusion and destruction.
You are right to see divorce as a serious and often contagious wound when bitterness and hardness of heart are left unchecked. Scripture is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, ordained by God from the beginning. As Jesus said in Matthew 19:8-9, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so. I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery. And again it is written in Malachi 2:16 that God hates divorce, and in Matthew 19:6, What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. We grieve with you that what God intended for love and faithfulness is being torn apart, and that the fallout is spilling over into friendships, families, businesses and the whole neighborhood.
We also hear your discernment that this is not merely human conflict but spiritual, that idle and unoccupied demonic influence seeks to meddle, to ruin, to disgrace, to bring tragedy and to create false imitation and confusion where you are hearing he is not him and she is not her and they are not our relatives. The Word warns us in Galatians 5:19-21 that the works of the flesh are obvious, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these, of which we forewarn you, even as we also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit Gods Kingdom. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control in Galatians 5:22-23. And Titus 3:3 reminds us, For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. That is the very confusion and malice you are describing, and it must be rebuked.
We rebuke together the spirit of violence, domestic abuse, aggression, sabotage, false accusation, and the threat of prison through lies and errors. The Lord does not take lightly the shedding of innocent blood or the striking of a spouse, for anger does not produce the righteousness of God in James 1:20, and we are commanded in Ephesians 4:26-27, Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, and do not give place to the devil. We rebuke the meddling in another house described in Proverbs 26:17, Like one who grabs a dogs ears is one who passes by and meddles in strife not his own, and the bewitched confusion that seeks to bring violence into your life. For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control in 2 Timothy 1:7, and where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed in James 3:16.
We also want to gently encourage you and all those you mentioned who are walking through a bad divorce, whether women or men, and those who are girlfriends and boyfriends. In biblical terms we understand boyfriend and girlfriend to be courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, not a lifelong partnership outside of covenant. Marriage should be honored as the godly path, for Hebrews 13:4 says, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. If any are living together or engaging in sexual intimacy outside of marriage while dating or after divorce, we urge repentance and to flee sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6:18, and to pursue purity and to seek a godly spouse if the Lord wills, rather than remaining in fornication or adultery. For those who have been divorced, we pray for healing and, where possible, for reconciliation and restoration, and for wisdom to not enter quickly into another relationship that is not built on Christ.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You only through the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and have access to Your throne in Acts 4:12 and John 14:6. We thank You that Jesus bore our sins and our sorrows and that He has authority over every evil spirit, for at His name every knee will bow. Lord, we lift up this neighborhood tormented by aggressive divorce, domestic abuse and violence, and we ask You to be a wall of fire around each home and especially around the one who submitted this request. Put a stop to the sabotage, the false claims, the demands and the errors that threaten employment and freedom, and expose every lie with Your truth. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus in Philippians 4:7.
We rebuke in Jesus name every demon of divorce, strife, envy, malice, hatred, confusion and violence that would seek to go from house to house, and we command it to be bound and to leave, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in Ephesians 6:12, and You have given us authority to trample on the enemy in Luke 10:19. Bring conviction where there is hardness of heart, bring repentance where there is abuse, bring protection for the vulnerable and wisdom for authorities and church leaders to intervene rightly. Heal those wounded by divorce, whether men, women, or young people in courtship, and lead them into godly counsel, into purity, into forgiveness without enabling sin, and into marriages that honor You if it is Your will for them to marry.
Make us peacemakers who do not let bitterness spread as a root that defiles many in Hebrews 12:15, and help us to pursue what makes for peace and building up one another in Romans 14:19, and as much as it is possible, to live peaceably with all in Romans 12:18. Keep us from meddling and from being bewitched by confusion, and let clarity, truth and the fruit of the Spirit reign in our homes. We trust You to turn tragedy into testimony and to bring order where there has been ruin. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
