neighbor gave me the look

We hear your frustration and we join with you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name over this difficult situation with your neighbor. It is understandable to feel irritated when someone is loud, parks in a way that feels invasive, and responds with a mean look, but we want to gently address the way this was expressed and encourage you toward a biblical response.

We notice you referred to your neighbor as a crap neighbor. We understand this came from a place of hurt and annoyance, but Scripture calls us to watch our words and our hearts toward those around us. Jesus said in Matthew 5:44, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. And again in Mark 12:31, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. Calling our neighbor names, even in frustration, does not reflect the love and honor God calls us to show, and it can harden our own heart toward bitterness. We encourage you to see this neighbor as someone made in God's image, someone Christ also died for.

We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. As Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation, believing that He died and rose again, and to come to God in His name.

God calls us to pursue peace where we are able. Romans 12:18 says, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:17-18 also teaches us not to repay evil for evil. Instead of returning a mean look for a mean look or harboring anger over the parking lot, we are called to respond with gentleness and patience. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. We encourage you to consider a calm, respectful conversation with your neighbor about the parking issue when you are not angry, perhaps choosing words that assume the best and seek understanding rather than accusation. If the loudness continues to be a real disturbance, it can be appropriate to address it kindly first, and if needed, involve proper authorities with a spirit of grace rather than retaliation.

We pray together for you and for your neighbor.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your peace to reign in this neighborhood. We ask You to soften both hearts, to remove bitterness and irritation from our brother or sister, and to fill them with Your love and patience. Help them to see their neighbor through Your eyes and to be a light for Christ even when they feel disrespected. We pray for the neighbor as well, that You would work in their life, that any inconsiderate behavior would be made known to them, and that they would also come to know Your kindness. Grant wisdom for how to address the parking and noise issues in a way that honors You and keeps the door open for peace. Let Your Spirit guide every look, word, and action, so that You may be glorified and reconciliation may be possible. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray for this neighbor by name, to bless them rather than curse them as Luke 6:28 teaches, and to trust that God sees this small trial and can use it to grow Christlike character in you.

We hear how wearing this has been. A noisy neighbor is hard enough, but when they crowd the parking area you rely on and then give you a hard look as if you did something wrong, it can leave you feeling disrespected right at home.

Living that close, little moments can carry a lot of weight. That look probably felt personal, and it makes sense you are still thinking about it. We have found it helps to separate what needs a response from what is better to release. The parking issue may need a calm, clear boundary at some point, the look itself may be something we can choose to let go of so it does not settle into resentment.

One small step that has helped others is to give it a day to cool, then if the parking continues to be invasive, address just that one practical issue briefly and kindly, or through a landlord or manager if you have one, without bringing the look into it. Keeping a short private note of dates and what happened can also keep things clear if you ever need it.

We are praying for you in this.

Father, we bring our neighbor and this whole situation to You. Give us peace in our home, wisdom to know when to speak and when to be quiet, and a heart that can release the sting of that look. Help us to treat our neighbor with dignity even while we hold fair boundaries, and help our neighbor to be more considerate. Guide us toward quiet and respect on our street. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer concerning your neighbor has been heard, and we join you in bringing this trial before the Lord who hears all our burdens.

It is a hard thing to dwell beside noise and unkind looks, and harder still when you feel your own boundary has been crossed, as with this matter of parking. The flesh is quick to keep a reckoning and to return a look for a look, but grace teaches another way.

Scripture sets before us the pattern, Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. Our Lord lived a life of forgiveness and crowned it with His dying prayer, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. He loved His enemies, He lived for His enemies, He died for His enemies, and the forgiveness He gives is complete. He keeps no back reckonings, He retains no reserves of anger, and He continues daily to forgive. When we have seen Jesus die we cannot think any sin too great to be forgiven, and having received so much manifest forgiveness ourselves, for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands.

There is forgiveness with God, and there is forgiveness to be shown by His people. To win a neighbor in God's way, with no weapons but love, patience and forgiveness, this is the most glorious of victories. Blessed is the man who overcomes evil with good and inflicts no wounds in the conflict.

Let us pray together.

O Lord, You who forgives all our trespasses for Christ's sake, grant to Your child a heart like Your own, to forgive freely and fully, not keeping anger for a loud noise or a hard look or an encroaching boundary. Give grace to speak gently if a word must be spoken, and to bear patiently where patience is required. Soften also the heart of this neighbor, grant quietness and kindness between those who dwell near one another, and let Your peace rule in that place. We ask that both households may know the surprising and complete forgiveness that is found only in Jesus Christ, and that from that forgiveness a new spirit of forbearance may flow. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Please pray for my crap neighbor. They are exceptionally loud and even gave me the mean look even though they were invasive with their parking lot.

Hearing your struggle with your neighbor, I understand how loud noise and tension over the parking area and that hard look can stir up anger and frustration in the heart.

You have asked for prayer for your neighbor, and that is itself a good and godly impulse. Scripture trains us to make our prayers broad, to say Our Father and to ask forgiveness for our debts as we forgive our debtors, so that we keep no vestige of anger against our neighbor. Before we ask God to deal with the wrongs done to us, we are called to remember our own need for mercy. When we keep our own sins continually in remembrance and examine them honestly, we become more humble, we let go of the memory of wrongs done to us, we are less likely to revile or to hold high thoughts about ourselves, and we become more earnest toward what is good.

Much conflict grows from the things of this life, from matters like property, noise, and honor. If we cut out the root of anger and vainglory, the bitter fruit will not grow. If someone has taken space or made noise or stolen our peace for a moment, they have not taken our treasure above, which no neighbor can steal. The one who acts unjustly harms himself more than he harms us, so our calling is not to repay insult with insult.

The mouth was given to us to give thanks to God and to build up our neighbor, not to pull down. Even when we feel provoked, we are called to speak only what edifies, or to keep silence rather than to destroy. Anger was not planted in us to set us against one another, but to make us vehement against our own sins, to chastise our own soul and to be strict with ourselves, while being gentle with others.

To bear meekly the spiteful acts of others brings great gain. It opens the way for deliverance from our own sins, it trains us in fortitude and patience, it teaches mildness and benevolence, and it frees us from the continual burden of anger and the sorrow that comes with it. In this way we punish ourselves when we hate, and we benefit ourselves when we love. Patience and hope strengthen each other, and both are nourished by staying close to the Scriptures, which comfort and steady us in conflicts within and without.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Give to my neighbor and to me a human soul trained in gentleness. Help us both to turn from harsh words and angry looks, to seek peace, and to use our words to build up rather than to tear down. Grant patience in this irritation over noise and parking, and guard our hearts from covetousness, envy and vainglory. Teach us to remember our own faults, to be quick to forgive, and to hope in your mercy. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, and let your will be done in our lives and on our street as it is in heaven. Fill this neighborhood with quietness, respect, and kindness, and help us to live at peace as far as it depends on us. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

If the noise or the parking issue continues, seek a calm moment to speak gently and clearly with your neighbor or with the proper manager, not in the heat of anger but with a desire to build peace. And continue to bring this to God daily, asking Him to form patience and hope in you through His Word.
