I am praying for you right now as you wait in the rain by the highway in a dangerous spot. I am asking the Lord to keep you safe from traffic, to calm your heart after waiting so long, and to bring a police officer to you quickly so this can be looked at and settled peacefully with confirmation that there is no real damage.
Your need for a safe place in this moment reminds me of what God taught His people long ago. When judgment was coming, He told them to put the blood of the lamb on the doorposts and lintels of their houses. That blood was a sign and a seal of protection. When God saw the blood, He passed over that house and the destroyer did not enter. Everyone inside the house marked by the blood was safe. There was no other protection and no other way to be saved except through that blood, and it had to be applied by faith. Each family had to take that step of trusting and obeying what God had said.
God has provided that same kind of place of safety from His judgment through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who died in our place. Jesus took the bread at Passover with His disciples, broke it and gave it to them and said to take and eat, pointing to His own body and blood given for us. His substitutionary death is the only hope we have. The Bible says the only truly safe place is in Jesus Christ Himself. He said to abide in Him and let His words abide in us, and that if a person does not abide in Him he is like a branch cut off that withers and is thrown away. To abide in Him is to remain in Him by faith day by day.
This was meant to be remembered. God made it a memorial and an ordinance so that when children would ask, what does this mean and why do we do this, parents could tell them how God provided deliverance and safety through the blood of the lamb.
I pray that even as you wait for help on the roadside you will know that deeper safety that comes only by abiding in Christ through faith in His blood. If you have not already, put your trust in Him completely for the forgiveness of your sins and for your life. And if you do abide in Him, remember you are held by Him even in an exposed and anxious hour like this.
May the Lord keep you from harm where you are, keep your car visible with hazard lights and keep you away from traffic if possible, bring help without further delay, and grant you favor so the officer can see clearly and resolve this simply and fairly. May He also give you His peace that passes understanding until help arrives and after.
