We join with you in this cry for deliverance and we stand together on the finished work of Jesus Christ, for we know that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of evil.

We rejoice with you that Jesus has already dealt the decisive blow to the enemy. The Scripture declares that the Son of God was revealed for this purpose, that he might destroy the works of the devil 1 John 3:8, and that through death he has brought to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil Hebrews 2:14. At the cross He disarmed the principalities and the powers, making a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them Colossians 2:15. For this reason the accuser who accuses the brethren day and night before our God has been thrown down Revelation 12:10, and we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous 1 John 2:1, who silences every accusation against us.

We also understand your longing for Jesus to completely bind Satan and halt all his plans forever. We affirm with you that the ultimate and final binding is assured, when the devil who deceived them will be thrown into the lake of fire forever Revelation 20:10 and when he will be bound for a thousand years and sealed so that he should deceive the nations no more Revelation 20:2-3. Until that final day, God has given us authority in Christ to resist him now. We are told to be sober and self-controlled, for our adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, whom we are to withstand steadfast in our faith 1 Peter 5:8-9, and to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11. The promise is sure that if we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us James 4:7, for the weapons of our warfare are mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds 2 Corinthians 10:4, and the God of peace will soon crush Satan under our feet Romans 16:20.

We pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace together. We thank You that Jesus has triumphed over Satan and all his works and that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1. We ask that You would forbid the voice of the accuser against our dear fellow believer, and let the blood of Jesus speak a better word over his past, present and future. We pray that You would render powerless every direct and indirect scheme, influence and connection of the evil one concerning him, and that You would halt every plan formed against him. We ask that You clothe him in the whole armor of God, that he may stand firm in truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation and Your Word. Teach him to submit daily to You, to abide in Christ, to walk in Your Word and in prayer, and to resist the devil so that he must flee. Fill him with Your peace and assurance that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4, and that no weapon formed against him shall prosper. Let him rest in the victory that Jesus has already won and look with hope to the day when Satan will be bound forever. We ask all this in the name above every name, Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We hear the deep longing in your prayer for peace and for the assurance that Jesus is guarding your life past, present and future. Wanting Him to silence every accusation and to make His victory real over every influence of the enemy is a good and honest desire, and we are standing with you in it.

It can be exhausting to feel like you have to keep fighting to make that protection hold. We have found it helps to remember that our safety is not kept by the intensity of our prayers, but by staying close to Jesus Himself day by day. That closeness grows more like training than trying, small, steady steps of walking with Him, spending time in His presence, and staying connected to trusted believers who can pray with you face to face.

If these thoughts feel heavy or keep you on edge, it would be good to share them with a pastor or a mature Christian friend in your own church who knows you and can walk alongside you regularly.

Jesus, thank You for Your complete victory and Your nearness to us. We ask You to quiet every accusing voice over our brother and cover him with Your peace. Guard his heart and mind, draw him close to You, and help him rest in Your care and leading each day. Fill his home with Your presence and hope. In Jesus' name, amen.

Praying for this request in Jesus Name.

[Spurgeon]

Your earnest prayer for deliverance from the power and accusations of the evil one has been heard, and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace.

We thank God that you have turned to Jesus Christ alone for victory, for there is no other name under heaven by which we may be saved, and no other power by which Satan can be overcome. The Scripture declares that the Seed of the woman shall bruise the serpent's head, and at Calvary that promise was fulfilled. There Jesus won the victory, and He will not enjoy it alone, for He will glorify His people in it. As the result of Christ's death, Satan's power is broken. He may still rage and accuse, for he goes about as a roaring lion, but there is a bit in his mouth and a bridle on his jaws, and he can be controlled and restrained just as the Lord pleases.

You ask that the Lord would silence the accuser and forbid his accusations against you. Know this, that when Satan accuses, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. His precious blood answers every charge. When the enemy says you are guilty, Christ shows His wounds and pleads His finished work. There is no other way for us to be saved from the castings down of Satan but the rebuke of Jesus. He rebukes the adversary for us, and through His intercession the mouth of the accuser is stopped.

You ask that all the works and plans of the devil might be halted and bound. We rejoice to tell you that Christ has already triumphed openly over principalities and powers upon the cross, and He saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. That great victory is the ground of our confidence. Yet the Lord in His wisdom has ordained that the final and complete binding of Satan, when he shall deceive the nations no more, awaits the day of Christ's glorious return. Until then, the arch enemy, though conquered by our Head, still seeks to tempt and to worry the saints. Our comfort is this, that by God working in us, we shall bruise Satan under our feet shortly, and every member of His mystical body, even the most uncomely, was virtually a conqueror in the conquering Head.

Therefore we pray for you in this way.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou great Conqueror of Satan, we bless Thee that Thou hast led captivity captive and won the victory over every force of evil. We ask Thee to give to this soul power and victory through Thy blood. Let Thy rebuke silence every accusation brought against Thy child. Cover past sins with Thy atonement, guard the present hour by Thy Spirit, and keep the future in Thy sovereign hand. Teach this dear one to stand in Thy strength, clothed in the whole armor of God, to resist the devil that he may flee, and to rest not in any feeling or prayer of our own, but in Thy finished work alone. Give faith to see Thy beauty and to trust Thy intercession, and grant peace that the accuser has no plea that Thy cross cannot answer.

Continue to look to Christ, to abide in His Word, to pray without ceasing, and to walk in humble obedience. When accusations arise, answer them not with your own goodness, but with the plea, Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ intercedes for me. In that plea Satan is defeated.

We commend you to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and who shall at last present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. May the God of peace bruise Satan under your feet shortly, and may you know more and more that you are more than a conqueror through Him that loved you. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

[Chrysostom]

Your prayer to Jesus Christ for protection from the devil and his works is heard, and it is right to turn to Christ alone for deliverance.

Scripture teaches that Christ has indeed defeated the evil one through His cross and resurrection, and that the devil is called the ruler of the darkness of this world because he rules only over those who give themselves up to him. He does not rule heaven and earth, and he had nothing in Christ. As you have asked, we join you in looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who endured the cross and is seated at the right hand of God, whose works show His divine power and prove that He is not served by any evil spirit.

At the same time the Scriptures and the teaching of the Church remind us that God in His wisdom does not always remove every trial at once, but uses our struggle to make us more glorious and humble. The evil spirits could not even touch the swine without permission from God, which shows they have no power to act against you without God permitting it. When God does permit testing, He turns it for good and cuts off any just claim of the accuser, while keeping us under His care.

For this reason we do not pray with childish fables or curious speculations about the devil, but with sober trust. The apostle teaches that pride is the beginning of sin, and that the devil fell by pride and works through pride. The safest protection is a broken and humbled heart before God, a clear moral choice to will what is good, and a life of resisting sin even to the point of striving against it. God promises to deliver not only from outward danger, as He delivered Paul from the lion's mouth, but more greatly from every evil work, so that we will not depart with condemnation but stand firm.

We pray with you now that the Lord Jesus Christ, who has silenced every false accusation by His blood, would guard you, forgive your sins, strengthen your will to choose what is good, keep you from pride and darkness, and deliver you from every evil work. May He grant you humility, clarity to walk in His light, and perseverance to resist the devil so that he flees from you. May He fill you with peace in knowing that nothing can separate you from His love as you abide in Him, and that He will keep you until the end as you continue to look to Him.

We encourage you to remain in prayer, in the Word, in fellowship with faithful believers, and in a humble walk of obedience, trusting not in formulas but in the living Christ who reigns and who will be your deliverer. In Jesus name, amen.
