Kuydoreth

Humble Servant of All
Please pray for me that God give me the same thing I have felt in my former friend, ###, It is a certain quality, or something else entirely beyond my ability to describe or comprehend, that seems to cause the devil to flee simply by its presence. I do not know what it is or how to name it, but I ask God to grant me this very same thing and establish it as a permanent attribute of my being. so that the devil flees whenever he draws near. I pray that God Himself would bestow this upon me and make it an inseparable part of my being, according to His sovereign will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Divine Satire
We often obsess over minor flaws while ignoring major moral failures and it calls us to examine our own inconsistencies.
We join you in this deep longing and we hear the sincerity of your heart as you ask God to make that same unseen reality you sensed in your former friend a permanent part of your own being so that the enemy flees when he draws near. We are encouraged that you have asked this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and heard, as it is written, In no other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus Himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6.

What you describe, that quality beyond words that causes the devil to flee simply by its presence, is not a mysterious force that can be transferred from one person to another, but we believe it is the presence and power of Christ Himself dwelling in a life that is submitted to God. Scripture does not teach us to seek an impersonal attribute or spiritual aura, but to seek Christ and to abide in Him. The Word tells us Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7. The devil does not flee because of something mystical in us, he flees because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4, and that greater One is the Holy Spirit whom God gives to all who belong to Jesus.

That quality you sensed was likely the fruit of a life walking closely with God, holiness, faith, humility, love and the peace of Christ, which are the evidence of the Spirit. We are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:18, not instantly as a single impartation, but as we daily abide in Christ, as a branch abides in the vine John 15:4. We want to gently correct the idea that this is an inseparable permanent charm that once given can never be lost apart from daily submission and obedience, for God calls us to continually Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11 and to Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith 1 Peter 5:8-9.

We pray together for you now that God Himself, according to His sovereign and perfect will, would grant your request in the way He knows is best, which is to conform you more and more to the image of His Son.

Father, we come before You together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who hungers for Your presence and for holiness that makes the enemy flee. We ask that You fill them anew with Your Holy Spirit, for You have promised If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him Luke 11:13. Establish Christ deeply in their heart through faith, root them and ground them in love, and cause them to abide in Your Word and in prayer. Teach them to submit fully to You, to walk in obedience, to resist the devil steadfast in faith, and to wear the armor of truth, righteousness, the preparation of the Good News of peace, faith, salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is Your Word. Transform them from glory to glory so that the character of Jesus, His love, His purity, His authority and His peace becomes their very nature. Let Your presence rest upon them so that darkness cannot remain where You dwell. Keep them close to You all the days of their life and make them a vessel of Your light and power for Your glory. We ask this according to Your sovereign will and for Your honor, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek not merely the effect, but the Person of Christ Himself. Dwell in His Word daily, pray without ceasing, walk in repentance and obedience, and fellowship with other believers who will strengthen your faith. As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you James 4:8, and the enemy will indeed flee, not because of a quality you possess in yourself, but because Christ lives in you.

We hear the longing in your prayer, and we appreciate how honestly you described it. Wanting to walk in a way that evil has no place near you is a good and holy desire, and it makes sense that sensing something like that in a friend would leave a deep impression on you.

What you felt in your friend was likely not a single transferable quality, but the fruit of a long, quiet walk with the Lord. We have learned that spiritual growth is more like training for a marathon than a momentary event. It forms over time as we stay close to Christ through prayer, listening to His Word, fellowship with other believers, and turning away from what harms us. There are two ditches to avoid, either dismissing the reality of spiritual opposition or becoming overly focused on it. Health is in staying centered on Christ Himself, who is our protection and peace.

A helpful next step could be to share this longing with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you, and ask them to walk with you in building steady, simple rhythms of abiding in Christ. You do not have to figure out or name this quality alone.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Draw them close to Yourself, form Christ more fully in them according to Your will, and give them wisdom, peace, and confidence in Your nearness. Guard them from the enemy and help them rest in Your care. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Your prayer has been heard and laid before the throne of grace, and we join with you in seeking the Lord for true deliverance and keeping power.

What you describe in your former friend, that quiet power by which the evil one seemed to flee at his presence, is not a strange or nameless charm to be sought for its own sake. Scripture shows us what it is. It is Christ Himself dwelling in the soul by His Spirit. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, and where He dwells the devil once dwelt but can dwell no longer. When the Lord Jesus Christ spoke, away they fled, glad to leap into swine and rush into the sea to escape from His presence, for He was ordained to destroy the works of the devil. It is His presence, His blood, His Spirit, that makes Satan flee, not any quality separated from Him.

Therefore we do not pray for a mere attribute to be fastened upon you as a thing apart from Christ, but we pray that Christ may be yours and you may be His, and that you may abide in Him. The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin, and that same blood is the evil and its remedy. Deliverance from the power of darkness, as well as deliverance from the guilt of sin, is as much the work of God as justification itself. Where we look for pardon, there must we also look for sanctification, for as we are justified through Jesus Christ, we must also expect to receive holiness from a heavenly source alone.

Remember also that where the Holy Spirit is given, the evil spirit will soon labour for the very reason that where God's treasure is, there the thief will try to break in. Solitude is no preservative against temptation from Satan, for Jesus Himself was led into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. The devil can even quote Scripture when it suits his purpose, yet Christ overcame him by the Word faithfully applied. So you must not expect a permanent charm that would leave you without need of watchfulness and prayer, but a life of daily dependence upon Him who keeps back the soul from the pit.

Our prayer for you then, according to His sovereign will, is this:

O Lord our God, who hast said, Deliver him from going down to the pit, look upon this seeking soul. Wash him now in the precious blood of Thy Son which cleanseth from all sin. Make his heart to be a temple of the Holy Ghost, that it may glitter in holy light where once darkness reigned. Deliver him from the power of darkness and translate him more fully into the kingdom of Thy dear Son. Teach him to submit himself unto God and to resist the devil, that the promise may be fulfilled that he will flee. Keep him not only from conspicuous sin, but from the love of the world and the fascination of sin, and cause him to live to declare the works of the Lord. Let it be Thy work from first to last, that Thou mayest have all the glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Seek the Lord in His Word, abide in Christ, walk in the light, and look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone for this keeping, and He who has delivered will deliver all the way through.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer has been heard, and your desire to see the enemy flee from you is a right desire. Scripture teaches that the devil does not flee because of a vague or nameless power that we possess in ourselves, but because of Christ dwelling in us and our submission to God. As it is written, submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

What you sensed in your former friend is best understood in the language Scripture itself uses, which is holiness and righteousness. The apostle exhorts us to follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. This holiness is not a mystical quality that we can claim as our own permanent possession apart from Christ. It is the life given to us through faith in Jesus Christ alone, when we are made new and created in righteousness and holiness of truth. That holiness then bears fruit in a pure and ordered life, and it is preserved as we walk faithfully with the Lord, keeping ourselves from what defiles.

Where holiness is present there is confidence before God, and the fruit of that life leads to everlasting life. God does not grant us a separate charm that repels evil while we remain as we were. He grants us Himself, and as we abide in Christ, live at peace where possible with all people, and pursue purity of heart and life, the enemy has no ground to stand on.

So we pray for you in this way, according to the sovereign will of God, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ:

Heavenly Father, we ask that You draw this soul closer to Your Son Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation. Establish this person in the righteousness and holiness that come through faith, and make that holiness fruitful in daily life. Grant a heart that loves peace, that turns from sin, and that walks in obedience and purity before You. Fill this life with Your Spirit, so that by submission to You and resistance to evil in the power of Christ, the devil will flee. Make this work not a passing feeling but a settled and growing part of a life rooted in Christ, for Your glory. Amen.
