I am grateful you shared this burden so honestly and that you want to walk in victory over the enemy. That desire is right and God wants you to live in that victory, but it is important to understand how Scripture says that victory comes.

What makes the enemy flee is not a mysterious quality that can be passed from one person to another or possessed as a permanent trait in ourselves apart from Christ. Our authority does not come from man and cannot be given by man. It comes by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead. Apart from Him we have no standing, but because of faith in Jesus Christ, God sees us in Christ and in His righteousness. That is our standing before God.

The Bible tells us to resist the devil and he will flee from us, and to resist him steadfast in the faith. He goes about like a roaring lion and he is the master deceiver, and we are not to be ignorant of his schemes. Yet the power he exercises now is usurped power, not rightful authority. He has been defeated. When you come against him in the victory of Jesus Christ, he must yield. You have authority and power over him in Christ, not in yourself. So you stand up in the name of Jesus and in His protection, and through the name and power of Jesus you resist his attack. At the same time keep a safe distance and do not play with his temptations.

Scripture describes this as Christ in you, the hope of glory. As you have received Christ, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith. You are complete in Him, who is the head over all principality and power. All principalities and powers are under His authority. It is not that you become by nature someone the devil fears, but that you are in Christ and He is in you, and as you abide in Him the enemy must retreat.

That life requires the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is difficult to describe, but without the Spirit we cannot successfully stand against temptation or live effectively for the Lord. We need His power to deliver us from this present evil world according to the will of God our Father, who gave His Son to give Himself for our sins. The response to such grace is to live in a manner fitting a child of God, motivated now by love rather than by the old life.

So my prayer for you is not that a nameless quality from another person would be transferred to you, but that you would be more deeply rooted in Jesus Christ Himself.

I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ would pour His grace and peace upon you, that you would know more fully that you are in Christ and Christ is in you, that you would be filled with the Holy Spirit and strengthened to resist the enemy steadfastly in faith, that you would walk as a child of God in love and holiness, and that you would experience the deliverance Christ purchased when He gave Himself for you. May the Lord teach you to stand in the victory of Jesus, to use the authority He has given you in His name, and to live each day rooted and complete in Him, for His glory forever. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
