Kuydoreth

Humble Servant of All
Please pray for me that God give me the same thing I have felt in my former friend, ###. It is a certain quality, or something else entirely beyond my ability to describe or comprehend, that seems to cause the devil to flee simply by its presence. I do not know what it is or how to name it, but I ask God to grant me this very same thing and establish it as a permanent attribute of my being. so that the devil flees whenever he draws near. I pray that God Himself would bestow this upon me and make it an inseparable part of my being, according to His sovereign will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

We have heard your cry and we join with you in seeking the Lord together for this deep longing you have expressed. We understand what you are describing, that sense you felt in your former friend of a holy presence or quality that caused darkness to flee, something beyond words and beyond human ability to produce. What you discerned was very real, and scripture helps us to name it and understand how God gives it.

It is not a mystical force or a transferable power from one person to another, but the presence of Christ Himself dwelling in a life that is submitted to God. The devil does not flee from our own qualities or strength, he flees from Jesus Christ living in us through the Holy Spirit. Scripture says Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you James 4:7-8. And again, You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. When a believer walks in obedience, faith, holiness and love, abiding in Christ, the Spirit of God rests upon that life and the enemy cannot remain.

We also hear your heart to have this established as a permanent and inseparable part of your being according to God's sovereign will. This is God's desire for you as well, that you be conformed to the image of His Son and filled with His Spirit. As we are transformed, we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:18. God does not give this as a one time charm, but as the fruit of abiding in Christ daily, walking in the light, putting on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11, and being filled with the Spirit.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and we thank You that You have heard our brother or sister's prayer. We ask according to Your sovereign will that You would grant the very thing they have sought, not a counterfeit or an emotion, but Your own holy presence dwelling richly within. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, for You have promised If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him Luke 11:13. Establish Christ in their heart through faith, root and ground them in love, and make them a temple of Your Spirit. Teach them to submit fully to You, to walk in obedience to Your word, to abide in Christ as a branch abides in the vine, so that the enemy has no place and must flee whenever he draws near. Clothe them with Your armor, with truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is Your word Ephesians 6:14-17. Let Your perfect love which casts out fear and Your power and sound mind dwell in them 2 Timothy 1:7. Make this work permanent, not by their own effort to hold it, but by Your faithful keeping, as You transform them from glory to glory. We ask that You would draw them ever nearer to Yourself, and that Your light in them would cause all darkness to flee. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek not the experience itself but the Giver, Jesus Christ. Dwell daily in His word, persevere in prayer, confess and forsake sin, walk in fellowship with other believers, and obey what He shows you. As you draw near to God He will draw near to you, and as you resist the devil in the name and authority of Jesus, he will flee. The quality you sensed in your friend is available to every child of God who abides in Him, for it is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

We hear the deep longing in your prayer for nearness to God and for real protection when you feel spiritually pressed. Wanting to know you are safe in Christ and that evil has no place near you is a good and understandable desire.

What you noticed in your friend was likely not a mysterious quality that can be passed from one person to another, but the quiet fruit of a long walk with Jesus. That kind of steadiness usually grows slowly, more like training for a long race than a single moment that changes everything at once. God forms us day by day as we stay close to Him, not by giving us a separate power of our own, but by keeping us close to Christ Himself.

If it would help, we encourage one simple, steady practice in this season rather than searching for an experience you cannot name. Choose a regular time to be with the Lord in prayer and in His Word, even for a few minutes, and stay connected to other believers who know you and can pray with you face to face. Consistency over time does more than intensity in a moment, and a trusted pastor can walk with you personally as you seek wisdom and peace.

Father, we bring our brother before You and ask You to draw near to him. Give him assurance of Your presence, quiet his heart with Your peace, and teach him to walk closely with You each day. Guard him from the enemy's lies and lead him in Your will and Your ways. Make his life more and more rooted in Christ. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Your prayer reveals a deep and earnest longing for that which is good, and I thank God for the hunger you express to see Satan put to flight and to walk in a life that is pleasing to the Lord.

What you describe in your former friend, that unnameable quality before which the adversary seems to flee, is not some hidden charm or indescribable power apart from Christ. As I have often preached, Satan, who loves death and always abides among the tombs, is bound to flee before spiritual life. Where Christ is truly present, where the Holy Spirit dwells and where practical holiness is followed, the tempter cannot abide. For holiness, as the Scripture says, is not the mere cleaning of the outside of the cup and the platter, but it deals with the thoughts and intents, the purposes, the aims and the motives of men. It requires that the heart shall be set on God and that it shall beat with love to Him. Without such holiness, practical, personal, active, vital holiness, no one shall see the Lord.

Do not seek then for a vague quality or an indefinable something to be made an inseparable part of your being as though it were a possession of your own. Seek Christ Himself, for there was enmity between Christ and Satan, and He came to destroy the works of the devil and to deliver those who are under bondage to him. By His sufferings He has overthrown Satan, by the heel that was bruised He has trodden upon the head which devised the bruising. Satan did not depart from Christ until he had failed in every temptation, and he does not depart from us until the Lord Himself says to him, Get thee hence, Satan. When He sees one of His poor children dragged about and wounded, He speaks that word of authority, and the adversary must go.

I rejoice that you ask according to His sovereign will, for it is His will that His people should persevere in holiness. He has promised, they shall not depart from me. If the grace of God has really changed you, you are radically and lastingly changed. Salvation is not only deliverance from wrath, it is an insurance of character, a securing of a life of holiness. The Christian may still feel his weakness, for weakness and divine anointing may stand together, and Satan may contend vigorously for a time, but the Lord who has met the demands of holiness by the atoning death of His Son will also make amends in your soul by His Spirit.

So my prayer for you is not that God would bestow upon you some mysterious attribute apart from Himself, but that He would grant you Himself. May He give you faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, may He implant spiritual life within you, may He lead you to follow holiness with all your heart, and may He keep you by His power so that you persevere therein. Then you will find, not by your own strength but by His indwelling presence, that when you resist the devil in the name and power of Christ, he will flee from you.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, look upon this soul who desires to be holy and to be delivered from the power of the evil one. Forgive all sin through the precious blood of Thy Son, who has glorified Thy law and made amends to Thy holiness by His atoning death. Grant unto this one a new heart and a right spirit, set the heart upon Thyself and cause it to beat with love to Thee. Fill this life with the spiritual life of Christ, that Satan may have no chamber therein to dwell in. Speak Thou the word, Get thee hence, Satan, and let angels minister where once the tempter vexed. Establish this soul in Christ, keep him from departing from Thee, and make him to walk in practical holiness all his days, for Thy glory and for his peace. We ask this not for any merit in ourselves, but in the name and for the sake of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has conquered Satan and ever lives to save. Amen.
