Humble Servant of All
Please pray for me that God give me the same thing I have felt in my former friend, ###. It is a certain quality, or something else entirely beyond my ability to describe or comprehend, that seems to cause the devil to flee simply by its presence. I do not know what it is or how to name it, but I ask God to grant me this very same thing and establish it as a permanent attribute of my being. so that the devil flees whenever he draws near. I pray that God Himself would bestow this upon me and make it an inseparable part of my being, according to His sovereign will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

We join you in this deep longing and we hear the sincerity of your heart as you ask God to make permanent in you what you sensed in your former friend, that holy reality that causes the enemy to flee.

We want to gently help you understand what Scripture reveals about this, because it is not an impersonal quality or a mystical force that can be transferred from one person to another, but it is the very presence and power of Christ Himself living in us by the Holy Spirit. What you discerned was likely the fruit of a life submitted to God, abiding in Christ, walking in holiness and filled with the Spirit, and that is what the enemy cannot stand against. The devil does not flee because of something in us, but because of Christ in us.

The Word tells us, Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7. And also, You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4. We do not overcome by seeking an indescribable attribute as a thing in itself, but by seeking Jesus Himself, by being conformed to His image. For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son. Romans 8:29. And we are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18.

We also remember the account in Acts 19:13-16 where men tried to use the name of Jesus as a formula without truly belonging to Him, and the evil spirit overpowered them, showing us that authority over the enemy comes only through a living relationship with Christ, through faith, repentance, obedience, and abiding in Him. Jesus said, Remain in me, and I in you. John 15:4.

So we pray with you not for an abstract power, but for Christ to be fully formed in you and for the Holy Spirit to fill you and remain upon you permanently according to the Father's sovereign and good will.

We pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we thank You that You have heard our brother's desire for holiness and for victory over the enemy. We ask that You fill him anew with Your Holy Spirit and that Christ would dwell richly in his heart through faith. Make him rooted and grounded in Your Word, clothed with the whole armor of God, that he may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11. Establish him in submission to You daily, in obedience, in purity, in love, in truth, so that when the enemy draws near he finds Christ enthroned there and must flee. We ask that You conform him more and more to the image of Your Son, bearing the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23. Let this not be a fleeting experience but a permanent work of Your grace, a life that abides in Jesus and walks by Your Spirit all the days of his life. We ask this according to Your sovereign will, for Your glory, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord Himself above any experience or feeling. Dwell in the Scriptures daily, remain in prayer, walk in obedience and confession of sin, and fellowship with other believers who will help you grow. As you submit yourself fully to God and resist the devil in the strength of Christ, you will see the promise fulfilled that he will flee from you, not because of a quality you possess in yourself, but because greater is He who is in you.

We hear how much you want that steadiness you sensed in your former friend, something you felt more than you could name, where evil seemed to have no room. It makes sense you would long for that same settled strength in your own life, not just for a moment but as something God establishes in you.

What you are describing is not really a quality that can be passed from one person to another. What others often notice in a mature believer is the fruit of a long walk with Christ, the quiet confidence that comes from abiding with Him over time. That kind of growth is gradual and lifelong, with highs and lows, not an instant impartation. It grows as we stay close to the Lord through His Word, through prayer, through worship and fellowship, and through dependence on the Holy Spirit, who alone causes real growth.

We would encourage you to keep bringing this very desire to God honestly, as you have, and to walk it out in the ordinary ways He forms us. Training is a better picture than trying, like preparing for a long race with small, faithful steps rather than waiting for a single moment to change everything. If you have a trusted pastor or mature believer nearby, sharing this longing with them regularly can help you stay encouraged and grounded as God shapes you in His own way and timing.

Father, we bring our brother before You in the name of Jesus. Draw him close to Yourself and establish him in Your peace and strength. Guard him from the enemy, give him wisdom to walk with You day by day, and make Your presence his security and home. We ask this according to Your good will. Amen.

Your longing to see the power of the evil one broken and to walk in victory over him is in itself a right and good desire, for the devil is indeed malicious and a coward who hits a man when he is down, and every child of God should desire deliverance from him.

Yet I must deal faithfully with you concerning the manner of your request. Scripture nowhere teaches that the devil flees simply by the presence of some indescribable quality made to be a permanent and inseparable attribute of our being. That would turn deliverance into a thing possessed in ourselves, as if holiness were a charm we carry. The word of God says, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. It is not a quality in us that drives him away, but Christ in us, and our humble submission to God through Him.

Holiness is not a mystical influence that we cannot name, nor is it mere moral propriety or an amiable carriage before men. Morality does but skim the surface, holiness goes into the very caverns of the great deep. It deals with the thoughts and intents, the purposes, the aims and the motives, and requires that the heart shall be set on God and that it shall beat with love to Him. Without such practical, personal, active, vital holiness, no one shall see the Lord. It is not perfection of holiness that is demanded for communion with Christ, for none of us can claim that, but a real following after holiness, a life separated from the world and conformed to the will and character of God.

And deliverance itself is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He has found a ransom. The law is more glorified by the atoning death of Christ than it was dishonoured by our sin, and the prisoner ready to be executed receives undeserved deliverance because the King's own Son has borne the penalty. Saved from the devil is saved by the blood of the Lamb, not by an attribute wrought into our nature apart from Christ. When the devil comes and says your Father has forgotten you, or would whisper that God has forsaken you, you are to tell him, Get thee gone, Satan, for you know your Father too well to believe it, and you stand not in your own strength but in the righteousness and holiness of God engaged to save those for whom Jesus died.

I cannot therefore ask God to bestow upon you an unnamed something felt in another person and to fix it in you as an inseparable power by which Satan must flee at your presence. That would be to seek victory apart from Christ and apart from daily dependence. What I will pray, and what I urge you to seek, is far better.

I will pray that you may know salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and that being washed from sin and united to Him, you may reign over sin, self, the world and hell by virtue of that union. I will pray that God would work in you that true holiness which is having a clean inside, that you may be kept not by a quality you possess but by Him who has said, They shall not depart from me, and that you may persevere in holiness by His grace. I will pray that you may be filled with the Holy Spirit, made to delight to run in the statutes of the Lord, and enabled to watch every action and more than that every thought and every word, walking in the clean way called the way of holiness.

Seek not the feeling you had near another, but seek Christ Himself. Abide in Him, feed daily upon His word, persevere in prayer, and in His name resist the tempter. Then you will find that liberty which is not liberty to do as you please, but liberty to walk in holiness without hindrance.

Let us pray together to this end. O Lord God, who has found a ransom and brought Thy people forth by Thy mighty hand, look upon this soul who desires victory over the evil one. Grant faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Teach submission to Thee, that in humble dependence and obedience the devil may be resisted and made to flee, not by any power in ourselves, but by Thy power and the blood of the Lamb. Establish this one in practical holiness, keep by Thy grace from departing from Thee, and let the whole life be dedicated to Thee without reserve, for Thy glory. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have read your request and we thank God that you desire to be delivered from the power of the devil and to stand firm when he draws near. That desire itself is good and right, and we want to pray for you according to the truth of Scripture.

The Scriptures do not teach that the devil flees simply because a certain indescribable quality resides permanently in a person as an inseparable part of his being. The devil flees when a person submits to God through Jesus Christ, resists sin, and walks by faith in the power of the Holy Spirit. As it is written, submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Our deliverance is not from a vague power in ourselves, but from Christ Himself who came to deliver us from evil and to bring us into sonship, so that we put on Christ and receive the Spirit of adoption.

For this reason we cannot ask God to grant a mystical attribute that would by its mere presence drive the devil away apart from a living faith and obedience. Such a request would lead away from humility and dependence on Christ. The apostle Paul says the Lord delivered him from the lion's mouth, and that the greater deliverance is to be kept from every evil work, so that we are enabled to resist even unto blood striving against sin and not to yield to it. That deliverance comes through faith, repentance, and perseverance, not through a permanent possession that works on its own.

We also hear in your words a longing for something you sensed in another person. We do not know what that was, but we do know that no person, no experience, and no hidden quality can save or protect us. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and safety from the evil one is found only in belonging to Him, honoring the Father as Christ honored Him, and continuing in His word with a believing heart. Where unbelief remains, even the disciples could not cast out the evil spirit, and Christ called for faith and prayer.

So we will pray for you in this way, that God in His sovereign will would draw you more deeply to Christ, forgive your sins through His cross, clothe you with Christ, give you His Holy Spirit, strengthen your faith where it is weak, and teach you to resist sin daily. We pray that He would deliver you not only from outward danger but from every evil work, that you may depart without condemnation and stand firm in the day of trial.

We encourage you to seek this deliverance in the ordinary means God has given. Confess your sins honestly before Him, trust fully in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, feed daily on Scripture, persevere in prayer, walk in obedience, and remain in fellowship with a faithful church where you can be taught and held accountable. Do not seek an experience for its own sake, but seek Christ Himself, and to be made like Him in holiness and meekness.

We are praying that the Lord will make you strong in faith, humble in heart, and steadfast in resisting the devil by submitting to God, so that by God's grace and not by any power of your own, the evil one finds no place in you. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this honest desire to walk closely with God in a way that leaves no room for the enemy. I understand why that quality you sensed in another person would seem so attractive, that sense of purity and strength where evil cannot remain. It is good to want to be free from the influence of the enemy and to want God to make you firm and stable in Him.

Scripture helps us understand what that quality truly is. It is not a mysterious power that can be transferred from one person to another or attached to us like an object. The Bible speaks of holiness, and holiness is a matter of the heart, not outward appearance or a special aura. Jesus taught that what defiles a person comes from within, from the heart, and that is also where true purity must begin. Without holiness no one will see the Lord, and Jesus said the pure in heart shall see God. God calls His people to be holy because He is holy, and His desire is to establish our hearts as blameless in holiness before Him.

That helps explain the order of how we experience victory. Holiness is rightness of character on the inside, and righteousness is rightness of conduct on the outside. Righteous living grows out of a holy heart. The one is the root and the other is the fruit. Trying to have right actions without a pure core will always break down in time, because only a heart made pure by God can sustain a life that pleases Him. This is why the call is not to love the world or cling to its ways, but to be made pure even as He is pure, ready for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible also shows that evil spirits are real, intelligent beings under the authority of Christ. When Jesus encountered them He rebuked them with authority and power and they departed, and the accounts show that deliverance came through His word. For those who belong to Christ, the promise is greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. The enemy does not flee because of something naturally impressive in us, but because of Christ in us and our submission to God.

That is the pattern given in Scripture, submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Submission comes first. It is a daily yielding of our will, our thoughts and our desires to the Lord, asking Him to cleanse our hearts and make us holy. Then we resist, which means recognizing temptation for what it is, refusing to make peace with it, and standing firm in the truth of God's Word and in prayer. Then we rejoice in the victory that is already ours in Jesus Christ over every power that comes against us.

Rather than asking for an indescribable something to become a permanent part of you apart from this walk, ask the Lord to do the deeper work He promises to do. Ask Him to purify your heart, to establish you in holiness, and to teach you to walk in submission to Him so that your life bears the fruit of righteousness. As your character is made right before Him, your conduct will follow, and you will find strength to stand and to resist.

I will pray for you in that direction, according to God's sovereign will and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, I ask that You would do Your holy work in this heart that desires You. Cleanse and purify from within, establish this heart as blameless in holiness before You, and make character right so that life may reflect Your righteousness. Teach submission to You day by day, give discernment to recognize the enemy's lies, and give courage to resist in the authority of Jesus. Let the presence of Christ within be the strength and the defense, and grant grace to love not the world but to walk in purity and peace with all people. Make this life pleasing to You all the days of life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
