The yearning in your words is understandable, but I want to show you a firmer ground for your confidence than simply asking that the enemy be made unable ever to accuse you. The truth is that he has already been judged, and his accusations have no legal standing before God because of what Jesus Christ has accomplished.
Consider this: the enemy is called the accuser of the brethren. His entire strategy seems built on making you feel condemned, driving you into despair so that you want to give up and run from the very place of forgiveness. He wants you to believe there is no hope. But Jesus Christ is our advocate before the Father. His finished work on the cross is the answer to every accusation. At the cross, the powers of darkness were disarmed and defeated; Christ triumphed over them, making an open display of His victory. That means the enemy cannot successfully bring a charge against you that Jesus has not already answered. You are not asking a defeated foe to be defeated; you are learning to stand in a victory that has already been won once and for all.
The key is this: the enemy’s desire is to drive you away from Jesus. When he whispers condemnation, the temptation is to isolate, to feel that your state is uniquely hopeless. But that is the opposite of where your cleansing lies. The Holy Spirit convicts, but He always draws you to the foot of the cross for pardon. The accuser pushes you away from it. So when these thoughts assail you, the answer is not to plead that they stop, as if the outcome were uncertain. It is to turn your gaze directly to your advocate. You say, “Thank God that through the blood of Jesus Christ, I have forgiveness. The enemy’s power is broken, and his words are worthless because Jesus paid my debt.”
And on the matter of him staying away: the world may still be a contested place for a time, and the enemy prowls, but you are no longer his subject. He operates with a usurped power because you have been redeemed. You were once a slave in his domain, but Jesus, through His death, delivered you from that power. Now, through the authority of Jesus Christ, you can take your stand. You are not meant to live in a fearful, defensive crouch, wondering when he will appear. You are given the victory to resist him, and James tells us that if we resist the devil, he will flee. The sight he will have of his failure is you, a blood-bought child of God, standing in faith and refusing to yield your will to the old lies of sin or despair.
