Need a miracle for severe pain

The pain you endure is indeed severe, a furnace that tries the soul. Yet remember Job, who sat among the ashes, his body a mass of sores, and no miracle came to remove the torment. What did he possess? A life of unwavering endurance, a tongue that blessed God even in the depths. That very endurance shone before the devil as a greater wonder than any miraculous healing. Say then with him, "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." This is not to dismiss your agony, but to kindle a light within it. When the body screams, the soul can still cling to thanksgiving, and that act of will becomes a miracle far surpassing the mere cessation of pain. For what profit would it be to lose the pain but gain a bitter spirit? A miracle of the body, if untempered by humility, can become a snare; but a heart that trusts God in the desolation is a treasure stored in heaven.

Do not despair that the doctors cannot help. He who made the body can restore it with a word, or He can give such strength that the pain becomes bearable and the spirit emerges like gold refined. The absence of a visible miracle is not absence of God. Often He withholds the spectacular to bestow a deeper grace: the ability to endure what seems beyond human strength. That is the miracle worked in the souls of the martyrs, who sang while their flesh was torn. Cry out to Him, pour out your heart at every moment; He is the only physician who never fails. But also seek His face, not only His hand. Ask not solely for removal of the pain, but for the grace to glorify Him in it. A single act of trust in the depths is more precious than a hundred cures. I will indeed join my prayers to yours, pleading for relief, but even more, pleading that you may know the fellowship of His sufferings, and that the peace which surpasses all understanding may guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

The weight you are carrying right now is immense, and the pain you describe sounds truly overwhelming. It is right to cry out for a miracle when every human help has failed. That kind of desperation has a way of stripping away every pretense and leaving us with nothing but the raw need for God to move. Sometimes He allows circumstances to press us so hard that we have nowhere else to turn, and that very pressure becomes His strange mercy, crowding us to Jesus.

When Jairus came to Jesus, his little girl was dying. He was a ruler in the synagogue, a man of standing, but in his desperation he threw all caution aside. He fell at Jesus' feet and begged him greatly, because nothing else mattered except getting to the only one who could help. That is the kind of desperate faith that catches heaven's attention. The crowds were thick, the situation looked hopeless, and yet Jesus went with him. He is not put off by our urgency. He is moved by it.

We live in a world groaning under the corruption sin introduced. The pain in your body and the agony in your mind are not signs that God has abandoned you. They are the very things Jesus wept over when He stood at the tomb of Lazarus. He saw the grief of Mary and Martha, and even knowing He was about to raise their brother, He groaned in His spirit and wept. He was troubled by the pain of human limitations and the sorrow sin brings. He is touched by our weaknesses right now. Your suffering does not fall on a cold, distant deity; it reaches the heart of a High Priest who knows what it is to suffer.

The greatest miracle God works is not always the one we first seek. Jesus told the paralyzed man his sins were forgiven before He told him to take up his bed and walk. That was not a dismissal of physical need, but a revelation of a deeper healing. The hand that was withered, the area of failure and weakness, that is what Jesus addressed. He did not talk about the good hand; He went straight to the thing that was not working. Bring your brokenness to Him, exactly as it is. The miracle of a soul rescued from darkness and transformed into the kingdom of light is the one that echoes into eternity, and it is available to every one who comes.

There is a day coming when all this will make sense. When Jesus reigns, there will be no more sorrow, no more pain, no more death. The former things will pass away. Until then, we groan, longing for deliverance from these bodies of weakness. Your longing for relief is a foretaste of that future restoration. In the meantime, do not carry this needless pain alone. Cast it all on Him. Obey the impulse that made you reach out for prayer. Stretch forth your hand toward Jesus, and trust Him for what only He can do. I will join you in asking for that miracle, for His mercy to break through where medicine has reached its limit.
