Beloved of All
Your faithful commitment to pray for all people and for those in authority is deeply encouraging and fully in line with what Scripture calls us to do. God urges us to offer petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving for everyone, including kings and all who govern, whether we agree with them or not. We do this so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and dignity, and because it pleases God our Savior who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth as written in 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
In joining you in these prayers, we ask the Lord to grant to leaders, pastors, service members, judges, legislators and all who bear responsibility a wisdom that is far better than wealth or position. Scripture personifies wisdom as calling out in the streets and inviting all to come to her banquet. She is more precious than rubies and nothing we desire can compare with her. With her are length of days, riches and honor, and her ways are pleasantness and her paths are peace. The beginning of that wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Knowledge may give us facts, but wisdom teaches us how to live rightly before God. We pray that those in authority would seek this wisdom from above rather than the wisdom of this world.
The wisdom of the world leads to strife and conflict, but the wisdom that comes from God is peaceable. God has made a peace treaty available to every person who has been at war with Him. Though our sins were as scarlet, through Jesus Christ and Him crucified we can be made white as snow. We cannot know true peace until we first know His grace, and that is why grace and peace are always linked together in Scripture. Once we have peace with God through Christ who Himself is our peace, we can then have peace within and sow peace with others, and those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
We also pray with you for the proper role of government. God ordained governing authorities to preserve what is good and to restrain evil. When government becomes self serving or promotes what is evil, something is deeply wrong. Yet we rest in the truth that the Lord remains sovereign. He sits in the heavens and does as He pleases, He directs the heart of rulers like channels of water, He frustrates the plans of the wicked and He works all things according to the counsel of His will for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. We pray that He would thwart every evil scheme, expose what is hidden, and guide honest leaders toward humble and godly alliances that protect freedom and allow the gospel to go forth freely through spoken, written and digital means so that disciples may be made in every nation.
We join you in asking for the Lord's protection over those who serve and over their families, and over all people in this land and around the world. We pray for angelic protection as Psalm 91 promises, for the covering of the armor of God in Ephesians 6, and for deliverance from the spiritual forces of darkness. We remember that Christ who lives in us is greater than he who is in the world, and that the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as we bring these requests to Him with thanksgiving.
May the Lord grant you His peace as you continue to intercede, and may He raise up leaders who walk in His wisdom, love His truth, and open the way for the message of salvation through Jesus Christ alone to be heard clearly. We thank God for your prayers and we stand with you in them in Jesus name.
