Narcissist

We understand the deep pain and exhaustion that comes from dealing with someone who exhibits narcissistic behavior—someone who is self-centered, lacking in empathy, and often emotionally or spiritually draining. The Bible warns us about the dangers of toxic relationships and the importance of surrounding ourselves with those who reflect Christ’s love and humility rather than the prideful and destructive patterns of this world. Proverbs 22:24-25 tells us, *"Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger: lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul."* Similarly, 1 Corinthians 15:33 reminds us, *"Don’t be deceived! ‘Evil companionships corrupt good morals.’"* If this person is causing you harm, it is wise and biblical to seek distance and protection from their influence.

However, we must also examine our own hearts in this situation. The Bible calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44), but that does not mean we must subject ourselves to ongoing abuse or manipulation. There is a difference between showing Christlike love and enabling sinful behavior. If this individual is unrepentant in their narcissism—pride, manipulation, or emotional harm—it may be necessary to create firm boundaries or even sever ties for your own spiritual and emotional well-being. Proverbs 4:23 instructs, *"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life."* Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do—for ourselves and even for the other person—is to step away and pray for their repentance from a distance.

We also notice that your request does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, and it is only through His name that we have authority in prayer. Jesus Himself said in John 14:13-14, *"Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it."* There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved or through which we can approach the throne of God (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Salvation comes through repentance and faith in Him alone (Romans 10:9-10). Without Christ, our prayers lack the power and authority that come from being in right relationship with God.

Now, let us pray together for your situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister who is burdened by the weight of a toxic and narcissistic influence in her life. Lord, You see the pain, the manipulation, and the emotional toll this has taken on her. We ask that You would intervene supernaturally and create a separation between her and this individual. Father, if it is not Your will for them to be in each other’s lives, we pray that You would remove all desire in this person’s heart to pursue or engage with her. Close every door, Lord, and redirect his path away from her. Let there be no confusion, no lingering attachment, and no opportunity for further harm.

At the same time, Father, we pray for this man’s soul. Soften his heart, Lord, and convict him of his pride, his selfishness, and any sin that has hardened him. Bring him to a place of repentance, where he may turn to You and find true humility and redemption in Christ Jesus. If he is unsaved, Lord, draw him to Yourself, that he may be transformed by Your grace.

We also ask that You heal our sister’s heart from any wounds this relationship has caused. Restore her joy, her peace, and her confidence in You. Surround her with godly relationships that reflect Your love and build her up in faith. Help her to forgive, not for this man’s sake, but for her own freedom in Christ. Remind her that her identity is found in You alone, and that no man’s approval or rejection can define her worth.

Finally, Lord, we pray that You would give her wisdom and discernment moving forward. Guard her heart from future relationships that do not honor You. Lead her to a community of believers who will support her, encourage her, and hold her accountable in godliness. If it is Your will, Father, bring a godly spouse into her life—one who loves You first and will cherish her as Christ loves the church.

We rebuke every scheme of the enemy to keep her bound in confusion, fear, or bitterness. By the blood of Jesus, we declare freedom, protection, and divine intervention in this situation. May Your will be done, Lord, and may Your name be glorified in all things. In the powerful and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s face in this matter. Spend time in His Word, especially in Psalms for comfort and Proverbs for wisdom. If you are not already part of a biblical church community, we urge you to find one where you can be supported and discipled. And if this relationship has involved any form of emotional, spiritual, or physical abuse, please seek godly counsel or professional help to walk through healing. You are not alone, and God is faithful to restore what has been broken.

Stand firm in Christ, knowing that He is your defender and your refuge. *"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower."* (Psalm 18:2). Trust in Him, and He will guide your steps.

We're here with you, dear friend. We understand the exhaustion and pain that comes from dealing with a narcissist. It's like trying to reason with a brick wall, isn't it? Our hearts ache for you, and we want you to know that you're not alone.

We've been praying for you, and we want to encourage you to keep setting boundaries. It's not about being unloving; it's about self-preservation. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. You need to prioritize your own emotional and spiritual well-being, and that's okay.

We've also been thinking about something else. Have you considered reaching out to a trusted mentor or counselor? Sometimes, talking things out with someone who's not emotionally involved can provide a fresh perspective. They can help you navigate this situation and offer practical steps to move forward.

And hey, don't forget to take care of yourself. That might mean indulging in a good book, going for a walk, or just spending some quiet time with God. You deserve it, and it's not selfish. It's self-care.

Let's keep praying together, okay? "Lord, we lift up our sister to You. Surround her with Your peace and comfort. Give her the strength to set boundaries and the wisdom to know when to step away. Convict the heart of that person, Lord, and draw them to repentance. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Keep your chin up, dear one. You're stronger than you think, and God is right there with you, every step of the way.
