We hear your heart’s cry for your precious son, and we join you in lifting him before the throne of grace. What a tender and sacred burden it is to intercede for a child who loves Jesus yet feels distant from His love. The longing in his soul is not a sign of weakness, but of a heart that has been awakened to the reality of God’s presence, even if he has only known Him through trials. Trials are not God’s absence; they are often the very place where He draws nearest, though unseen. We declare over your son that the God who has walked with him through every storm is the same God who will meet him in a profound and personal way.

The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:13-14, "You shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you," says Yahweh." Your son’s hunger for God is evidence of the Holy Spirit at work within him. This is not a season of abandonment, but of preparation. The Lord is cultivating in him a deeper dependence, a purer faith, and a readiness to encounter Him in ways that will leave no doubt of His love. We rebuke the lie that God is distant or indifferent. The cross of Christ stands as the eternal testimony of His love, "But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). If God gave His Son for us, will He withhold any good thing from those who seek Him?

We also speak to the trials your son has endured. They have not been without purpose. James 1:2-4 reminds us, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." The refining fire is not meant to destroy, but to purify. We pray that your son would see his trials through the lens of God’s sovereignty and love, trusting that the same God who has sustained him is preparing him for a breakthrough.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts broken for this young man who loves You yet feels so far from Your embrace. Lord, You are the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3). We ask that You would rend the heavens and come down (Isaiah 64:1), that Your presence would be so tangible to him that all doubt would flee. Meet him in the quiet places, in the stillness of his heart, and let him hear Your voice speaking love over him. Father, we declare that he is not forgotten, You have engraved him on the palms of Your hands (Isaiah 49:16). Let him feel the warmth of Your love as a consuming fire, burning away every lie that tells him he is unloved.

We pray for a divine encounter, Lord. Whether through Your Word, a dream, a vision, or the gentle whisper of Your Spirit, make Yourself known to him in a way that leaves no room for doubt. Let him experience the reality of Your nearness, for You have promised, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). We ask that You would flood his heart with the assurance of Your love, that he would know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is Your beloved child.

Father, we also pray for healing from the trials he has walked through. Where there is pain, bring Your peace. Where there is weariness, renew his strength. Where there is confusion, bring clarity. Let him see Your hand in every circumstance, and let his faith grow as he witnesses Your faithfulness. We ask that You would surround him with godly mentors and friends who can speak life into him, who can remind him of Your promises when his heart grows faint.

Lord, we rebuke every spirit of discouragement, doubt, and despair that has tried to take root in his heart. We declare that the joy of the Lord is his strength (Nehemiah 8:10), and we ask that You would fill him with a fresh outpouring of Your Holy Spirit. Let him rise up in the confidence of who he is in Christ, a son of the Most High God, redeemed, cherished, and called by name.

We thank You, Father, for the work You are doing in his life. We trust that this season of longing is not in vain, but that it is preparing him for a deeper walk with You. May he emerge from this time with a faith that is unshakable, a love that is unquenchable, and a testimony that brings glory to Your name. We ask all of this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

To your son, we say this: You are not alone in your longing. The very fact that you hunger for God is proof that He is drawing you. The psalmist cried out, "As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God" (Psalm 42:1-2). Your thirst is not a sign of His absence, but of His invitation. Keep seeking Him with all your heart. Keep pressing into His presence. He will not turn away the one who comes to Him in faith.

And to you, dear mother, we say: Your prayers are not in vain. The fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much (James 5:16). Keep interceding for your son, keep speaking life over him, and keep trusting in the God who hears you. He sees your tears, He knows your heart, and He will answer in ways that exceed your expectations. Stand firm in faith, for the Lord is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in your son (Philippians 1:6).

We have been holding you and your son in prayer since reading your request. It is tender to watch a child who loves Jesus still wonder if he is loved by God, and to hear how deeply he longs to sense His presence when so much of his walk has felt like one trial after another.

What has encouraged many of us is learning that growing with God is often more like long term training than a single moment we try to make happen. Steady, small faithfulness in prayer, in Scripture, in fellowship with other believers shapes us over time, even when feelings are quiet. And hard seasons, while painful, are often where God is closest, even when He does not feel close.

A gentle next step could be to ask him, when he is open to talking, what he pictures when he says encounter, and simply listen without trying to fix it. You do not have to have the perfect answer. Staying curious, praying together in honest, simple words when he wants to, and helping him stay connected to a trusted pastor or mentor who can walk alongside him regularly can be a steady support.

Father, we lift this young man to You. You see his love for Jesus and his ache to know Your love more deeply. Draw near to him in a way he can recognize, quiet the sense that he is unloved, and help him know he is held by You. Give his parent wisdom, peace and encouragement as they love him well. Your prayer for your son has been received with much tenderness and we will indeed bear him before the throne of grace.

We understand the ache of a young heart that loves Jesus and yet feels unloved by Him, that longs for an encounter and thinks God has only met him in trials. Tell him that his feelings, though very real, are not the measure of truth. Our peace with God does not rest upon feeling but upon fact, for we are justified by faith and have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. If he is trusting Christ alone for salvation, then he is already righteous before God by the imputation of Christ's righteousness, and nothing can separate him from that love.

The Scriptures declare that God is not far from any of us. As David sang in the psalm, if we ascend into heaven, God is there, if we make our bed in sorrow and darkness, behold He is there. There is no place where we can go from His presence, and no trial where He does not mark and remember His own. The very trials through which your son has known God are not signs of God's absence but tokens of a Father's hand, for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and it is better to smart under the rod of our Father than to be caressed by the world. He sees the silent tears and knows the longing of the heart.

Let him seek the Lord not by outward signs alone, but by Jesus Christ, and let him seek Him now. God Himself is eager for sinners and cries, Ho, everyone that thirsts, come. The invitation is not to the worthy or the strong in feeling, but to the needy. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and that love is proved at the cross, not in a fleeting emotion. An encounter with God comes as we receive Christ by faith, as the mouth of faith feeds upon Him, and as we turn His truth over in our hearts by meditation upon His Word. The soul that is quickened by the Spirit lives upon Christ, the bread of life, and learns to say with Thomas, My Lord and my God.

We will pray for your son, that the Eternal Spirit will show him the wisdom of seeking God by Jesus Christ, that he may know not only peace with God as a fact, but the joyful feeling of that peace in his soul, that he may hear the voice of his Father and know his Father's love shed abroad in his heart.

Our prayer is this, O Lord, look upon this young son who loves Thee and longs for Thee. Thou knowest his thirst. Show him Thy love in Christ Jesus, give him faith to rest upon Thy finished work, grant him to feed upon Thy Word and to find Thee near in every trial and in every quiet hour, and let him know assuredly that he is Thine and Thou art his, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

We have received your request and we join you in praying for your son with thankfulness for his love for Jesus.

It is painful to hear that he feels unloved by God while longing so deeply for Him. Feeling forsaken is not the same as being forsaken. Scripture teaches that we may be pursued yet not forsaken, smitten down yet not destroyed, for God sustains us by His grace. Trials do not mean God has forgotten us. As with Abraham, God allowed testing not because He needed to learn what was in the heart, but to make faith manifest and to strengthen His servant, and as with Daniel in the den, God remembered him. Your son's very longing for God is itself a sign that God is at work in him, for it is God who works in us both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

The joy the apostle speaks of often springs from tears, and patience in affliction works probation, and probation hope. Even when an encounter with God does not come as a sudden feeling, He is present in the trials themselves, forming, teaching, and keeping His children. We pray that your son will know this more and more, not by trusting a fleeting feeling, but by trusting the faithful love of Christ who died and rose for him.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we thank You for this young man who loves the Lord Jesus. You see his heart and his longing to know You more. We ask that You would reveal Your steadfast love to him in a clear and personal way, that he would know he is Your beloved child, remembered and kept by You. Give him assurance of Your presence, not only in trials but in quiet fellowship with You. Fill him with hope and with joy that remains, enlarge his heart and open his mouth to call upon You with confidence, and help him to work out his salvation with reverent trust as You continue Your good work in him. Guard him from discouragement and draw him ever closer to Christ, in whom alone is salvation. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Continue to encourage him to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in the Scriptures, to bring his honest feelings to God, and to remain in fellowship with other believers who can walk with him. God is faithful, and He will perfect holiness and hope in those who fear Him and look to Him.

Thank you for sharing your heart for your son, and be assured we are praying for him. His longing to know that he is loved by God and to truly encounter Him is precious, and God sees that longing.

It is painful when feelings tell us we are unloved, but our standing before God does not rest on feelings. Scripture teaches that we are saved because God's Word declares it, not because we feel a certain way at a given moment. Feelings change, but the Word remains. God showed His love while we were still sinners, dead in trespasses, alienated and at enmity with Him, by sending His Son to die in our place. That is the measure of His love, not whether we feel loved on any particular day.

Your son does not stand before God in his own righteousness or in his ability to keep promises. None of us can attain the righteousness God requires by works or by trying harder. If righteousness could come that way, Christ would have died for nothing. Like Abraham, we are counted righteous simply by believing God, by trusting in Jesus Christ. By faith we have access into grace, and it is in that grace we stand. God sees His children through the righteousness of Christ, and that is why He can look upon us and see us without spot. When your son understands more of that grace, he will also know more of God's peace, for peace flows from knowing grace.

The very fact that your son loves Jesus and is concerned about his relationship with God, about knowing Him and hearing from Him, is an evidence of the Spirit's work in his life. Those who are born again by the Spirit become concerned with spiritual things. The Scripture says as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. That hunger for God is itself a sign that God is at work in him and leading him.

God is not far from any of us. In Him we live and move and have our being. We are surrounded by Him and sustained by Him every moment. True fellowship with Him comes in the realm of the Spirit, for God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. When the Spirit is leading, we have union and communion with God.

Often God meets us most clearly in hard places. Jacob's first real encounter with God came when he was alone and in difficulty, and there he made his vow to the Lord. Later God touched him and changed him from one who relied on his own cunning to one who was ruled by God. God had to bring him to surrender before He could crown him with a new name and a new walk. Trials are not a sign that God is absent. God is working with an eternal purpose in view while we tend to see only the temporal moment. What feels like distance now may be the very place where God is shaping him for eternal good.

We are praying that God will give your son a deep assurance of His love rooted in the promises of His Word, not in fleeting emotion. We ask that the Holy Spirit will make the Word alive to his heart and bring him into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, that he will rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. We pray that he will learn to cling by faith to what God has said, that he will know he is a beloved child, accepted and sanctified, and that he will experience the peace that comes from resting in grace.

May the Lord meet him in prayer, even with tears, for the Lord is open to the cry of His children. May he come to know that to be ruled and led by the Spirit is the greatest blessing, and may God reveal Himself to him in a personal and unmistakable way, confirming His love and His presence.

We continue to hold your son before the throne of grace, trusting that God who loves him and desires to bless him will answer according to His perfect will and draw him into closer fellowship.
