my child is called ###. she is intelligent but refuses to do the right thing at school, doesnt write corret answers yet she knows things, she says she doesn't want to study she wants to only play at school but she is well behaved. please pray for her

We join you in bringing your precious daughter before the Lord and we hear the burden on your heart for her. We thank God with you that she is intelligent and well behaved, for these are gifts from Him, and we understand your concern that she knows the correct answers yet refuses to write them and says she only wants to play and not study at school.

We are reminded that God has given children a natural joy in play, yet He also calls us to diligence and faithfulness in what is set before us. Scripture tells us, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. And again, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23. Even at a young age, learning to do the right thing and to work with a willing heart is part of character that honors God. We also remember the word, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right Ephesians 6:1, and the encouragement to parents, Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord Ephesians 6:4. We gently recognize that refusing to do what is right, even when she knows what is right, is a matter of the heart that needs loving correction and patient shepherding, not harshness, so that she learns that obedience and diligence are pleasing to God and for her own good.

We encourage you to continue to nurture her with prayer, consistency, and grace. We have found it helpful to speak to a young child about how God gave her a bright mind to be used for His glory, to affirm her when she chooses diligence, to set clear and loving expectations about schoolwork, and to help her see that there is a time for play and a time for study, both gifts from God. Ask the Lord for wisdom daily for how to guide her without provoking her, and model for her a joyful attitude toward doing all things as unto the Lord. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. We come to God not on our own merit but through faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins and rose again, and we bring every need, including the needs of our children, to the Father in His name.

We pray together for you and your daughter now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear daughter to You. Thank You for her life, for her intelligence, and for her good behavior. We ask You to work in her heart to give her a willing spirit to do what is right at school, to love learning and to use the gifts You have given her faithfully. Give her joy in obedience and help her understand that diligence honors You. We pray You would give her parents wisdom, patience, and grace as they train her in Your ways, that they may nurture her in Your discipline and instruction without provoking her to discouragement. Fill this home with Your peace and let this child grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with You and with others. We ask that You draw this family ever closer to Jesus, that they may know Your salvation and Your daily help. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We've been thinking about you and your daughter and we can hear the care in your request. It is encouraging that she is bright and well behaved, even as this school struggle is weighing on you.

At this age wanting to play rather than do written work is very common. Knowing the answer but not writing it can be her way of holding onto some choice in a place that feels like a lot of demands. It does not mean she is not capable or that you have failed.

One simple practice that many parents have found helpful is setting aside a short special time each day, maybe ten minutes, where she chooses the play and you simply follow and enjoy her without teaching or correcting. That builds connection and often makes cooperation easier. It can also help to team gently with her teacher on one small, clear goal at a time, like completing a few problems, and noticing together when she does, with calm encouragement rather than pressure.

We are carrying you both in prayer.

Father, we lift this little girl to You and thank You for the mind You gave her. Give her parents wisdom and patience as they guide her, give her joy in learning, and help her teacher see and encourage her gifts. Lead this family day by day in Your grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your burden for your daughter and we join with you in bringing her before the throne of grace.

It is a tender mercy that she is well behaved and that God has given her an intelligent mind. Such gifts come from His hand, and we pray He will shape them for His glory. A child naturally loves play, and in its season play is a wholesome delight, yet the Lord who teaches His people to do His will must also teach the young heart to love diligence and truthfulness and faithful labour. As it is written, Teach me to do thy will for thou art my God, Psalm 143 verse 10. We cannot merely tell a child how to walk, we must take her by the hand as a nurse takes a little one, and the Lord Himself so teaches Ephraim.

Let us pray together.

O heavenly Father, who hast said, Suffer the little children to come unto me, we bring this little one before Thee. Thou knowest her by name and Thou seest her heart. We thank Thee for her life and understanding, and we ask Thee to work in her a willing spirit to do what is right and true in her schoolwork. Give her not only knowledge but love for what is good, and a conscience that desires to answer honestly and to labour faithfully according to the ability Thou hast given her.

Lord, lay Thy hand upon her and teach her to do Thy will even in these early lessons, that she may grow in wisdom as well as in stature. We pray above all that Thou wouldst early call her by Thy grace, make her first a child of God by regeneration through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and then a weaned child content to rest in Thy bosom and obedient to Thy voice. Let her know Christ who Himself was the holy Child and who still loves little ones and carries the lambs in His bosom.

Give to her parents wisdom and patience, that they may not sin against the child by harshness or by neglect, but may train her with gentleness, firmness and prayer, lifting up their own hearts before they seek to lift up hers. Let their home be a school of Christ where she learns that to fear the Lord and to obey His voice is the beginning of wisdom.

We commit her to Thy keeping and ask that Thou wouldst bless her studies, her play and all her days, and make her to be found faithful in small things that she may be prepared for greater service to Thee. This we ask in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is our only hope and salvation. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
