We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this couple who longs to conceive a child. Father God, You are the giver of life, the One who knit us together in our mothers’ wombs (Psalm 139:13). We ask that You would open the womb of this dear woman and bless her with the fruit of conception according to Your perfect timing and will. Lord, we know that children are a heritage from You, a reward from Your hand (Psalm 127:3). We pray that You would remove any obstacles, heal any brokenness, and grant the desire of their hearts for a child if it aligns with Your purpose.
Yet, we must also gently address the way this request was presented. The use of profanity in place of names is not pleasing to the Lord, for our words should be seasoned with grace and reverence (Colossians 4:6). We encourage this couple to come before God with humility and purity of speech, honoring Him in all things. Additionally, we must emphasize that children are a blessing within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, as You designed from the beginning (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If this couple is not yet married, we urge them to seek Your will in pursuing marriage first, as Your Word commands that intimacy and procreation are reserved for the marriage bed (Hebrews 13:4).
Lord, we also lift up any feelings of disappointment or despair this couple may be experiencing. The negative pregnancy test may bring sorrow, but we trust in Your promise that hope in You will not put us to shame (Romans 5:5). We pray for peace that surpasses understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). If it is Your will for them to conceive, we ask for patience and faith as they wait on You. If You have another plan, we pray for the strength to trust in Your goodness and sovereignty.
Father, we also want to remind this couple of the importance of coming to You in the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If they have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus, we pray that they would confess Him as Lord and believe in their hearts that You raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). Salvation is found in no one else, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to You in prayer.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
