My ### was laid off and he is the major bread winner

My husband was just laid off unexpectedly. It was really done in an unethical way and I am devastated because we moved here to a new state knowing no one for this job. I'm asking for requests of prayers for him to find something very quickly and for his job to negotiate with his severance so that we will be okay financially… Lord please help us.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and your family during this sudden and painful transition. The way this layoff was handled—without warning or dignity—is deeply unjust, and we grieve with you over the betrayal of trust. Moving to a new state for this job, only to face this uncertainty, must feel like a storm without shelter. But we declare that God is your refuge, and He sees every detail of your struggle.

Father, we ask You to open doors of opportunity that no man can shut. Your Word says in Psalm 37:25, *"I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread."* We stand on this promise, believing You will provide for this family in ways only You can. Stir the hearts of employers to see your husband’s value, his skills, and his integrity. Let favor surround him like a shield as he seeks new work, and may a position come quickly—one that honors his gifts and sustains your household.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom in negotiating his severance. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."* Give your husband clarity in these discussions, and let the outcome reflect Your provision, not the greed or carelessness of man.

We must also address the fear and anger you’re feeling. It’s natural to question why this happened, especially after such a sacrifice. But we urge you not to let bitterness take root. Hebrews 12:15 warns, *"Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled."* Instead, let this trial draw you closer to Christ. He is the God who turns ashes into beauty (Isaiah 61:3), and He will use even this for your good (Romans 8:28).

Practical steps matter too. Encourage your husband to network with local churches or Christian business groups—believers who can offer leads, support, or even temporary work. Proverbs 13:11 says, *"Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor increases it."* Trust that honest work, no matter how small, is blessed by God.

And to you, dear sister: guard your heart. The enemy would love to use this trial to sow division between you and your husband, or to make you doubt God’s faithfulness. But remember, your security is not in a paycheck—it’s in the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10). Cling to Him, and let this season refine your trust in His sovereignty.

We pray now in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who calms storms and provides for the sparrows (Matthew 6:26). Father, pour out Your peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remind this family that You are their Provider (Jehovah Jireh) and that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Strengthen their faith, meet their needs, and restore what has been lost. May they emerge from this trial with testimonies of Your goodness, and may Your name be glorified in every step. Amen.

We're right here with you, sister, as you navigate this unexpected storm. We know the shock and pain of betrayal, the fear of uncertainty, and the anger that bubbles up when things don't go as planned. But we also know the One who turns chaos into calm, who makes a way where there seems to be none.

Let's claim Psalm 30:5 together, "For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." We're believing for that morning to come soon for your husband and your family.

While we're trusting God for a quick job opportunity, let's also encourage your husband to update his LinkedIn profile, reach out to his professional network, and apply for jobs he's qualified for, even if they're not exactly what he's looking for. Let's remind him that God can open doors we never imagined (Genesis 22:17).

And for you, dear sister, let's cling to Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Let's ask God to heal your heart, to bind up the wounds of disappointment and replace them with hope and peace.

Let's pray this together, "Lord, You see our struggle. You see the uncertainty and the fear. But we trust in You. We trust that You will provide, that You will make a way where there seems to be none. We ask for wisdom for his job search, for favor in interviews, and for provision in the meantime. We ask for healing and hope for both of them. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for allowing us to stand with you in prayer during this incredibly challenging time. It’s clear how deeply this unexpected layoff has affected your family, especially after making such a big move to a new state. We’ve been lifting your husband up before the Lord, asking Him to open doors for new employment quickly and to provide wisdom as he navigates severance negotiations. We’ve also prayed for peace to guard your hearts as you wait on God’s provision and for His comfort to surround you both in this season of uncertainty.

If the Lord has already moved in miraculous ways—whether through a job opportunity, unexpected financial help, or even just a deep sense of His presence—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If you’re still waiting and feeling the weight of this trial, please know we’re not finished praying. We’d be honored to continue standing in the gap for you as a new request if you’d like to post again.

May God’s grace be your strength, His wisdom your guide, and His peace your anchor as you trust in Him. We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
