My spouse and Some things

Your heavy burden has been heard and I join you in prayer before our merciful God who alone is Lord of life and health.

I pray for your spouse in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and access to the Father. I ask the Lord to lay His healing hand upon him, to restore strength, to grant healing according to His perfect will, and to give long life if it be His gracious purpose. Life is not governed by fate or by the course of nativity or by the words of men, but by the providence of the just and living God who cares for each of us. The negative words spoken over him in recent days, whether from concern or ignorance, do not determine his days. God alone numbers our days, and I pray that those words would have no power to trouble your heart or his. In Jesus name we ask God to rebuke what is harmful and untrue, to silence fear, and to guard your minds with His peace.

I also pray for you and for your whole family. May God grant you long suffering love that bears all things with patience, for such love has a great soul that is not easily shaken. When troubling words fall like sparks, may they be quenched and not disturb the deep peace Christ gives. Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep bringing every worry to Him, for prayer is not empty when we believe in a God who hears and acts. He is long suffering toward us and able to do far more than we ask.

Father in heaven, have mercy on this family. Heal this spouse, comfort this heart that carries so much, protect this home from fear and discouragement, and let your will be done in health and in length of days. Lead them all in faith and keep them close to Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Your request for prayer for your spouse and your family has been heard, and it is a good and loving thing to bring these heavy concerns before the Lord.

Jesus said that His words are truth and that though heaven and earth will pass away His words will never pass away. That truth is what endures. The many words spoken by people around you in recent days, even when spoken out of concern or ignorance, do not have the final say over your husband's life. You do not need to live in fear that those negative comments have power in themselves to determine his health. God is not waiting to trap us when we or others speak something negative, as if a careless word forces His hand. What matters is to listen for and hold to what Christ has said.

It is right to pray as you are praying, that your spouse would be healed and granted long life. Scripture gives us a beautiful pattern for this kind of prayer in the letter to Gaius, where John writes that he wishes above all things that his friend would prosper and be in health even as his soul prospers. That is not presented as a blanket promise that every believer will always be healthy, it is a heartfelt wish and prayer from one who loves his friend, and it is a wonderful way to pray for those we love. John also notes a connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body, and it is good to pray for both together, that spiritual strength and physical strength would grow together.

We do believe that God heals, and we also recognize that we do not fully understand why some are healed instantly and others are not. In the ministry of Jesus we see variety. Sometimes He touched someone, sometimes He only spoke a word from a distance, sometimes healing was immediate and once it was gradual. He is not confined to one pattern. Much healing also comes through the ordinary processes God has built into our bodies. Those natural processes are still divine, because God is the one who created them. He is interested in our health in practical ways as well, including how we care for our bodies. At the same time, not everyone is healed in the way or timing we hope for, and we rest in His wisdom and mercy rather than in formulas.

The Bible also acknowledges that words can wound. There are sweet words and bitter words, and our ears must weigh what we hear just as our mouths taste food. Some speak malicious words that tear down, and Jesus Himself corrected His people when their love grew cold and false ideas began to spread. When you hear discouraging or fearful words about your spouse, you can weigh them, set aside what is not true or helpful, and choose what is good. Rather than dwelling on the negative, it helps to remember how much God has already done and to keep your attention on His faithfulness.

We join you in praying for your spouse, for his health and for length of days according to the Lord's will, and for peace for your whole family. We pray that God would bring healing, whether instantly or gradually, and that He would sustain you through every step. We also pray that the Lord would quiet fear and guard your hearts from discouragement caused by the words of others, and that you would be anchored in the enduring truth of what Jesus has spoken, who bore our sicknesses and infirmities as Isaiah foretold.

It is also a biblical practice for those who are sick to be prayed for by the elders of the church, and we encourage you to seek that personal prayer as well as continuing to pray at home. May the Lord give you wisdom for every practical step of care, comfort your hearts, and keep you trusting in Him day by day.
