My ###'s Bible

I was sitting here, talking to God, and I looked over at the bookshelf and saw one of my daddy's Bibles sticking out near the edge. I decided to get it and read a little. I opened it and wondered where I should start. I thought, "I'll let Daddy tell me where to read and looked for places where he may have marked or turned down the corner of a page. Well, the Bible was FULL of "markings" and "underlinings" and all kinds of little graphics he had written in places he thought were significant! I started reading and there would be a phrase underlined with brackets around it.... a little farther down the page there was more underlining with a star beside the verse. I started focusing on what I was reading and it was as if my daddy was sitting right there beside me, reading the passage to me! It was amazing! He was still speaking to me, even though he has been gone two years tomorrow!!! As I read on, I could hear his voice so clearly when I would come to another place where he had marked in his Bible. I paid special attention to the words he had underlined or circled....he was there! He was telling me, "Listen closely to this part and don't ever forget it!" It was wonderful to share that time reading the Words from my heavenly Father and hearing my Daddy's voice in my mind reading them to me as well! I love this old Bible and am so thankful that it made its way to my hands after my daddy left this world for a much better place. I can picture him carrying this same Bible to church and remember seeing it on his kitchen table, where he read it at home. There are a couple pieces of paper in it that have notes on them that he wrote to my mother years ago and an old tract that he used to always carry around in his shirt pocket. It kind of feels like I have a small part of my daddy with me when I hold this old, worn Bible. It's a good feeling and a warm feeling and I feel a little closer to heaven when I have it on my lap. The problems of today and the pain in the world seem to fade when I find a place in my corner chair with my Daddy's Bible!!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I also have my Dad's Bible, his favorite was always King James. My Dad has been gone now for ### years and I sure do miss him every single day. Having his bible is like having him beside me too. Such comfort beyond human understanding. Thank you again!

As I read this tears came to my eyes as I thought of my father. He has been gone for almost ### years. I loved him so much! This is so beautifully written. Thank you for the memories you touched me with of my own father. God Bless you.
