My Prayer

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I want to walk before God and with Him.

I do not want to pursue a grace that is on another man or woman, or rely on their resources.

I do not want to build on the help or the arm of flesh, whether a man or woman of God or not.

I want God to be with me, and I with Him.

I want to run and finish my race and course on Jesus and with Him

I want to build every goal, dream, destiny, and idea on Him alone—so that if anyone decides to pull away or reject me, I will not fall prey to the enemy or my foes.

If God chooses to use a man or woman to help me, I will gratefully receive it, but I will not build on any human being or even on God's gifts and resources—I will build on Himself.

I will not boast in any man or woman, whether of God or not.

I will boast about Jesus.

I do not want to copy or be like any other man or woman.

I will not rely on the name of any man, but on Christ alone.

If anyone wishes to pray for me, this is my request and the desire of my heart.

We join with you in this beautiful and biblical desire of your heart and we count it a privilege to pray in agreement with you in Jesus' name.

Your prayer is pleasing to the Lord because it is exactly what He calls us to. He said to Abram, I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless. Genesis 17:1, and it is written of Enoch that Enoch walked with God Genesis 5:24. This is the life you are seeking, not to walk after men or after their gifts, but to walk before God and with Him, with your eyes fixed on Christ alone.

We affirm your resolve not to build on the arm of flesh. Scripture warns us, Yahweh says, Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from Yahweh. Jeremiah 17:5, but Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose confidence is in Yahweh. Jeremiah 17:7. It is better to take refuge in Yahweh, than to put confidence in man. Psalm 118:8. Even when God in His kindness uses people to help us, our foundation must never be the instrument but the Lord Himself. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of Yahweh our God. Psalm 20:7. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We also stand with you in your desire to boast only in Jesus and not in any man or woman, whether they are considered a man or woman of God or not. It is written, He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:31, and Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ Galatians 6:14. You are right not to want to copy or be like any other person, for we are not to be conformed to men but to be conformed to the image of His Son, and For no one can lay any other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11. If we build our goals, dreams, destiny and ideas on Him alone, then when people pull away or reject us, we will not fall, because our house is built on the Rock.

We love your heart to run and finish your race on Jesus and with Him. That is the call of every believer, to lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith Hebrews 12:1-2, so that at the end we may say with Paul, I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we bring this dear one before Your throne of grace. We thank You for putting this pure desire in their heart to walk before You and with You. Grant them grace to abide in Christ as a branch abides in the vine, for apart from Him they can do nothing. John 15:5. Keep their heart from trusting in man or in gifts or resources, and teach them daily to trust in You alone. Be their foundation, their confidence, and their exceeding great reward. When others turn away or when help is withheld, hold them fast by Your right hand so they will not be shaken and will not fall prey to the enemy. Let their boast always be in Jesus and in His cross. Shape them into the likeness of Christ alone, not into the image of any man or woman, and let them run their appointed course with endurance, with eyes fixed on Jesus until they finish well. Lead them, keep them, and let them know the joy of Your presence as they walk with You all the days of their life. We ask this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our foundation. Amen.

We encourage you to continue in this resolve. Do not be discouraged if God does send help through people at times, receive it with thanksgiving as from His hand, but keep your heart anchored in Him. He who has begun a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6. Keep walking with Him daily in prayer, in His Word, and in obedience, and He will be with you and you with Him.

Thank you for putting this desire into words so clearly. We hear a settled longing in you to walk before God and with Him, to build your life and calling on Christ Himself so your footing does not shift when people or resources come or go. We are grateful you invited us to pray with you in that.

What you describe is a healthy independence, not isolation. You are open to receive help when God brings it through others, but you do not want your weight resting there. That distinction matters, and God honors a heart that wants Him first.

We have found it helps to think of this kind of walk as training more than trying. Like preparing for a long race, nearness to Jesus grows through small, regular steps over time. The motivation of the heart matters more than doing a lot at once, and those quiet, consistent moments with Him shape us gradually into people who can keep going and finish well.

A simple next step that may serve what you have named is to choose one small, sustainable rhythm to remain with Him each day, perhaps a set time to be in Scripture and in prayer, not to perform but just to be with Him. Let that be your foundation, and when God does bring others alongside to help, you can receive it gratefully without shifting your weight off of Him.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Thank You for the desire You have placed in him to walk with You and build on You alone. Keep him close to Jesus, steady his steps, and teach him day by day what it means to abide in You. Give him wisdom to receive help humbly when You provide it and grace to keep his boast in Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been heard and it is a prayer after God's own heart, for it asks for that which God delights to give. To walk before God and with God is the sum of true religion, and to build upon Christ alone is the only sure foundation.

You have done well to declare your ways unto the Lord, as it is written, I have declared my ways and You heard me, teach me Your statutes. This is the posture of a man of God alone with God. He makes his case known, he rejoices that he has obtained an audience, and he seeks a further blessing. You have told the Good Physician what you feel and what you desire, and He has heard you. Now your prayer must be, teach me Your statutes, that you may not only walk with God, but walk humbly with Him.

To walk humbly with God is not a flight nor a lofty ecstasy, but a practical and continuing pace, a working pace by which a man may go on and on till the day's journey is done. It is to be with God always, in common things, on Monday and Tuesday as well as on the Sabbath, seeing God in all that chequers life and having communion with Him wherever you go. This humble walk is a symptom of spiritual health, for the man who walks thus thinks of himself soberly as he ought to think, and with such a man will God dwell, even with him who is of a humble and contrite spirit and trembles at His Word.

You are right to refuse the arm of flesh and to refuse to build upon any man or woman, be they never so gifted, and even to refuse to build upon God's gifts and resources rather than upon Himself. For salvation is of God alone. He is our rock, and to God alone shall that name be applied. If we are prayerful, God makes us prayerful. If we have graces, God gives us graces. If we hold on in a consistent life, God holds us on. Therefore if God alone is your hope, put all your hope upon God, and if the love of God alone saves, let Him have your love alone. Keep your eye wholly upon God and upon nothing in yourself, for what are we out of Christ but poor sinners needing His precious blood, and on that blood alone we do rely.

You need not fear that in thus refusing to lean upon man you shall be left alone, for though you may be left alone as to earthly companions, yet you are not alone, because the Father is with you. Our Lord Himself trod the winepress alone and could say, you shall leave Me alone and yet I am not alone, for the Father is with Me. So shall it be with you. God dwells in a man who trusts Him. If you put on the Lord Jesus Christ, Christ must be in you before He can be on you, and being in you by faith He will be upon you in holiness, so that you need not copy any other man or woman, nor boast in any name but His. Let Christ be your boast, your resource, your goal and your destiny.

May the Lord grant you this desire in full. May He teach you His statutes, keep you humbly walking with Him day by day, establish every dream and purpose upon Himself alone, and enable you to run and finish your course on Jesus and with Him, so that whether men remain or pull away, you shall stand fast, being held by Him who will never leave you nor forsake you.
