The Lord Chiding His People
God disciplines His children out of love, not anger, to correct and refine them for their good.
Home Again
Returning to God brings overwhelming joy that calls you to come home now.
Marah; or, the Bitter Waters Sweetened
God turns life’s bitterness into sweetness through Christ’s sacrifice, offering hope in every trial.
Praise be to God who has heard your prayer and turned your night into morning. We rejoice with you to hear that He who says weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning, has indeed come into your boat and given you songs in the night.

You speak well of Simon who toiled all night and took nothing, frustrated and hopeless, till Jesus stepped into his boat and at His word the net was filled. So it is with every soul that labors in its own strength. The night is a season of terror and alarm to many, yet even night has its songs when the Lord draws near and whispers to His child. Then the eyes glisten in the night season and the heart can say, Tis Paradise if Thou art here.

Your testimony that you have invited Jesus into your boat and have found joy is a true cause for thanksgiving. Remember that this joy is not a fleeting gladness of circumstance, which may be bare tomorrow, but joy in the Lord which is the fruit of trust in God. He that has joy in the Lord has a reason for his joy which he can consider upon his bed in the night watches. Light is sown for the righteous, and the Lord will turn their night into day.

Hold fast then to that word upon which you have acted, but at Thy word I will. Prayer is the grand thing for us who have no might of ourselves, and one night spent in prayer may raise a soul from poverty to the standing of a prince with God. Continue instant in prayer, and seek no joy which is not joy in the Lord. Drink waters from your own fountain, for all your fresh springs are in Him. His power can keep you, His faithfulness cannot fail you, His immutability secures you, therefore you are not consumed.

We thank God for your resolve that you will not return to what caused your night seasons to appear. Keep that purpose, not in your own strength, but by the blood that bought you and the Spirit that quickened you. Learn to ring the bells of His praise all day long and all night long too, and be earnest to tell others of the glad tidings that have been so precious to you, that they also may find Him who can speak joy in the night and harvest joy in the morning.

May the Lord restore unto you daily the joy of His salvation and keep you walking in that joy until the morning without clouds shall break.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your testimony has been received with thanksgiving, and we rejoice with you in the mercy you describe. To weep for a night and then to see joy come in the morning is the very pattern the psalmist sings of, and the Lord Himself shows this weaving of sorrow and refreshment in the lives of His people. He does not make either danger or comfort continual, but weaves the life of the righteous out of both, so that we learn to trust not our own strength but His word.

You have spoken truly of Simon who toiled all night and caught nothing, frustrated and without progress, and then at the word of Christ let down the net again. That word, at your word I will do as you say, is the beginning of faith. Apart from the Lord we labor in vain, and when He steps into the boat the whole night is changed. To invite Him in, as you have done, is to confess that nothing can be done without Him, and to place confidence not in angels or in ourselves but in Christ alone who reconciles us to God.

We also hear your resolve not to return to what brought those night seasons. Hold fast to that purpose. Evils come from remissness and idleness and keeping company with what harms the soul and from contempt of virtue, and the way to remain in the morning joy is to continue in humility, in prayer, and in love. Peter after his failure did not only weep bitterly, he then showed courage and followed Christ at great cost. Tears by day and by night have their place, as the psalm says, I water my couch with my tears, but they are to lead us toward obedience and steadfastness.

Remember also what true joy is. The greatest joy is not of the world, not in riches or honor or ease, but the joy that remains even when hardship comes, the joy that comes from spiritual things, from dishonor borne for Christ, from keeping His commandments and abiding in Him. The Lord said, these things I have spoken to you that my joy may remain in you and that your joy may be full, and He joined that joy to the commandment that we love one another as He has loved us. Abiding in Him comes through love, and love comes through keeping His word.

So we give thanks with you that you have tasted this joy, and we pray that the Lord will keep you in it to the end. For a voyage is of no profit if the vessel founders near the harbor after a long journey. May He establish your steps, guard you from turning back, and deepen in you a love for His word, for prayer, and for fellowship with those who walk faithfully. May your joy be not a fleeting feeling but a rooted confidence in Christ, bearing fruit in a changed life.

We pray that God, who is full of love toward us, will keep your heart contrite and merciful and steadfast, and that you will continue to cast your net at His word each day, trusting Him for the increase.

Rejoicing with you in this praise report and thanking God for what He has done. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning is a precious promise from Psalm 30, and it is wonderful to hear you say that you have tasted that morning joy after so many long nights.

Your identification with Simon Peter in Luke 5 is so fitting. He had labored all night and caught nothing and knew that same frustration and disappointment and sense of hopelessness that comes when there is no progress to show for our effort. Yet when Jesus stepped into his boat and spoke a simple word, Simon obeyed even while still feeling the weight of that fruitless night, saying at your word I will let down the net. Obedience to the word of Jesus changed everything. Inviting Jesus into the boat is what ends the night season, and your decision to invite Him in and to heed His word is the reason for your joy now.

The Scriptures show us this same pattern in the life of Job. He was a man who was stripped of much and left with deep questions that rise from the nakedness of the soul. He wept and cried out and even his friends misunderstood him and accused him of hidden wickedness, though he was not suffering because he was wicked. There are mysteries we do not fully understand, including why God at times allows the accuser access for a season, but we see that God was still sovereign over Job's night. At last God spoke and Job was brought to a place of humble trust, saying in effect, you made me and you know what you are doing, I will trust you. Even in his darkest despair Job could declare, I know that my Redeemer lives and that He shall stand upon the earth, and though my body be destroyed yet in my flesh I shall see God. That is the true joy, the joy of knowing your Redeemer lives and the joy of His presence, which no night can take away.

It is good to hear you say you will not return to what caused those night seasons. That resolve to walk in obedience and to remain in the center of His will is where lasting joy and fulfillment are found. Continue to keep Jesus in the boat by daily hearing and obeying His word, trusting Him even when you cannot see the whole plan, and resting in the assurance that your Redeemer lives and cares for you.

Praying that the Lord will strengthen you and keep you and cause you to grow in that joy, and that out of this new season others will see His grace and be drawn to Him. May you know ever more deeply the satisfaction of walking with Him who turned your night into morning. In Jesus name, amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and for sharing your powerful praise report that your night season has ended. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer and we rejoice with you that the service confirmed what God was already doing in your heart.

We are so encouraged by your testimony of identifying with Simon before he was called Peter, who toiled all night with no success and felt frustrated and disappointed and hopeless. We rejoice that when Jesus stepped into his boat and said to launch out again, Simon responded at thy word I will let down the net as recorded in Luke 5:5, and his night season ended with abundance. We celebrate with you that you have likewise invited Jesus into your boat and now your many nights without seen progress have given way to morning joy, just as Psalm 30:5 promises that weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. We give thanks with you that though you have wept, your joy has now come and we join you in saying Hallelujah in Jesus Name and in standing with your declaration that you will not return to what caused your night seasons.

If your request was answered we thank you for already posting this praise report and letting us all know, and we invite you to post another praise report as God continues to confirm this breakthrough. If you find you need continued prayer to remain established in this new morning season or for any other need that still weighs on you, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We pray that the Lord will keep you in this joy and strengthen you to walk in the new season He has opened for you, and that He will guard your heart from returning to the former things of the night. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name Amen.
