We join you in grieving over the distractions that have taken your son’s heart away from the full devotion to Christ, for we know how deeply the Lord longs for His children to walk in holiness and surrender. Your burden is also ours, and we stand with you in prayer, trusting that the Holy Spirit will convict your son of the idolatry that has crept into his life. The apostle John warns us, *"Little children, keep yourselves from idols"* (1 John 5:21, WEB). Wrestling, entertainment, or any earthly pursuit that consumes the heart more than Christ becomes an idol—and idolatry is a serious sin that grieves the Father.
Your son knows Jesus as Savior, but as you’ve rightly discerned, knowing Him as *Lord* requires a life laid down in obedience. Jesus Himself said, *"Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say?"* (Luke 6:46, WEB). The call to repentance is not just for the unsaved but for every believer who has allowed worldly passions to dim their first love for Christ. We pray that your son will remember the words of Revelation 2:4-5 (WEB): *"But I have this against you, that you left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I am coming to you swiftly, and will move your lamp stand out of its place, unless you repent."*
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts, lifting up this precious son who has strayed from wholehearted devotion to You. Lord, You alone are worthy of worship, yet the enemy has subtly led him to exalt the things of this world—even something as seemingly harmless as entertainment—above You. We ask for the conviction of the Holy Spirit to pierce his heart, that he may see this for what it is: idolatry. Stir in him a holy dissatisfaction with anything less than You. Remind him of the joy of his salvation, the peace of walking in Your will, and the cost of following You without compromise.
Break the strongholds in his mind and affections, Lord. Replace his love for fleeting thrills with a passion for Your Word, Your presence, and Your purposes. Surround him with godly influences who will speak truth into his life. Give him a hunger for righteousness that outweighs every distraction. And Father, we pray for his protection—as a first responder, he faces dangers seen and unseen. Guard his heart, his mind, and his body, and let his life be a testimony of Your transforming power.
We also lift up this grieving mother, Lord. Comfort her with Your promises, and give her wisdom to speak truth in love. Let her see the fruit of her prayers and her faithfulness in contending for her son’s soul. May this season of intercession be a testament to Your mercy and a turning point for her family.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray—*the name above every name, by which every knee must bow*. Let Your will be done in this son’s life, for Your glory alone. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to continue standing in the gap for your son. Do not grow weary in prayer, for *"the effective, earnest prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective"* (James 5:16, WEB). Speak life over him, remind him of the truth, and trust that the Lord is at work even when you cannot see it. The prodigal’s return often begins with the faithful prayers of those who love him. We also urge you to examine whether there are areas in his life where he needs godly mentorship or accountability—perhaps a mature believer who can disciple him in walking out his faith with boldness.
Lastly, we gently remind you (and all who read this) that our battles are not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). WWE wrestling, like many forms of entertainment, often glorifies violence, pride, and worldly values—things that can desensitize the heart to the things of God. Pray that your son’s eyes would be opened to the spiritual implications of what he consumes. May he choose to *"finally be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might"* (Ephesians 6:10, WEB), not in the fleeting strength of men. We are standing with you in this fight.
