My mothers health - acceleration please

It is so difficult to watch a mother who was once active in her home, cooking and moving about, now confined to bed after a stroke, and also dealing with a urinary infection and dementia. Your sorrow and your fear that she may not walk again are completely understandable, and your desire to honor her in this vulnerable time is precious to God.

Scripture places a strong emphasis on honoring father and mother, and that honor was never meant to be only words. In the Bible it meant taking practical care for parents when they can no longer care for themselves, just as they once cared for you. Your willingness to watch over her needs, to press for proper care, and to carry this burden is part of that obedience. God sees that faithfulness even when it is exhausting and when others do not seem to share it.

You asked for prayer that everyone responsible for her would do only what promotes her healing and well being. That is a right prayer, and we join you in it. We will pray that the doctors, nurses, and caregivers would act with diligence, wisdom and compassion, and that God would guide their decisions. Healing in the Bible did not always happen in the same way. Sometimes Jesus healed with a touch, sometimes with a word from a distance, sometimes instantly and sometimes gradually. One man with a withered hand, likely from a stroke, was healed when Jesus told him to stretch it out. Another healing was gradual, and the person saw only partly at first and then clearly. Any true healing, whether sudden or through the slow processes God has built into our bodies and through the skill of medical care, is still from God. The prophet Isaiah said of the Messiah that He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses, and the Gospels show Jesus fulfilling that with power over fever, paralysis and every kind of affliction. We do not always understand why some are restored quickly and others more slowly, and our culture often makes it hard to trust for what we cannot see, but we can bring every need directly to Jesus Himself. We do not need another mediator. We can come boldly to Him, as a desperate mother once did when her daughter was suffering terribly, and she would not leave until she received His help. Her persistent faith was honored. In the same way, keep bringing your mother to Jesus again and again in prayer, trusting His compassion and power while also thanking Him for every small step of improvement He gives.

The strain with your brother and with staff who seem passive or motivated by money adds a heavy weight. It is painful when family is divided and when you feel you must constantly fight to get what is right. Scripture warns about a generation that does not bless mother and father and where schism in the family brings deep heartache. Do not let frustration push you into bitterness or harsh words that you would later regret. Continue to advocate for your mother with wisdom and firmness, but ask God to keep your heart at peace and to work in your brother's heart as well, so that you can act together for her good where possible. Pray also for those caring for her, that God would stir them to do their work faithfully.

We pray now for your mother, that God would touch her body, clear the infection, strengthen her after the stroke, restore her mind and comfort her in confusion, and if it is His will, help her to stand and walk again. We pray for gradual healing day by day, for protection from further harm, and for His peace to rest on her. We pray for you, for strength, patience and wisdom as you honor her, and for grace in every interaction with family and caregivers. May the Lord who is able to heal sustain you both and give you confidence as you keep entrusting her into His hands.
