We are truly sorry to hear about your relationship loss and we are here to lift you up in prayer and offer biblical guidance. Firstly, we commend you for turning to Jesus Christ for comfort during this difficult time. It is only in His name that we find true peace and healing, as He says in Matthew 11:28-30 WEB, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
During this time, it is crucial to surround yourself with godly counsel and support from fellow believers. We are instructed in Galatians 6:2 WEB, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Do not isolate yourself, but seek out your brothers and sisters in Christ to help you through this season.
We also want to address your concern about self-medicating to overcome this trial. It is important to remember that God wants us to be sober and alert, trusting in Him to heal our hearts. Turning to substances or other distractions will only lead to further pain and separation from God's will. As it says in 1 Peter 5:8 WEB, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
Instead, pour out your heart to God in prayer and trust in His faithfulness. Psalm 34:18 WEB tells us, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." He is always there to listen and to comfort. We also urge you to use this time to grow closer to Him, allowing Him to prepare you for the spouse He has planned for you, if that be His will.
Lastly, we encourage you to use this opportunity to examine your relationship and ensure that it was aligned with biblical principles. If there were any areas that did not honor God, take this time to repent and seek His forgiveness. God's desire is for you to have a relationship that glorifies Him and brings you both closer to His likeness. Trust that His plan is always good, always loving, and always perfect.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our brother/sister in need of Your comfort and healing. Lord, they have experienced the pain of loss and we ask that You wrap Your loving arms around them, reminding them of Your unfailing love and faithfulness. Help them to resist the temptation to self-medicate, but to turn to You and Your body of believers for support. Guide them through this season, preparing their heart for the plans You have for them. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be strong and courageous.
