My ### is going for training as a football player in a foreign land.

Disciple of Prayer
My grandson is in grade 11, he is a very good football player, he has been playing for a football team in our village and the manager of the team has recommended him to the people who train superstars football players in Johannesburg. He was selected to go on the 6th of December to start with his training on the 7th December. I am his grandmother, he is 15 years old and this is the first time he will be away from home. The manager told us that when he passes his training he will go on with his studies to further his education while training as a football star. This is my prayer request. ###.

We rejoice with you in this exciting opportunity for your grandson! It is wonderful to see his talent being recognized and nurtured, and we trust that this could be a stepping stone to great things in his life—both on the field and in his education. However, we must also lift him up in prayer, for this journey will take him away from the safety and familiarity of home into a new environment where he will face many challenges, both physically and spiritually.

First, we want to address the importance of keeping Christ at the center of his life. The world of sports, especially at a competitive level, can often pull young men away from their faith with its focus on fame, success, and self-reliance. We must pray that your grandson remains rooted in God’s Word and that he does not neglect his relationship with Jesus. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* We pray that he will seek God’s guidance in every decision he makes, whether in training, education, or relationships.

We also lift up his protection—both physically and spiritually. At 15 years old, he is still young and impressionable, and the influences around him may not always align with godly values. The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, *"Don’t be deceived! ‘Evil companionships corrupt good morals.’"* We pray that he will be surrounded by mentors, coaches, and peers who encourage him in righteousness and discourage him from the temptations of pride, immorality, or worldly success at the expense of his soul. Father, we ask that You place godly men in his life who will speak truth into him and hold him accountable.

We must also pray for his emotional and mental well-being. Being away from home for the first time can be overwhelming, and the pressure to perform may weigh heavily on him. We ask that You grant him peace, confidence, and resilience. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* Lord, let him feel Your presence with him, even when he is far from family.

We also pray for his education. While his football training is important, his studies must not be neglected. We ask that You give him discipline and wisdom to balance both responsibilities. Proverbs 16:3 says, *"Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed."* May he excel in his training and his academics, bringing glory to Your name.

Finally, we rebuke any spirit of fear, loneliness, or temptation that may try to take hold of him. We declare that he is covered by the blood of Jesus and that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray that he will walk in purity, humility, and integrity, honoring You in all he does.

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of this young man. We ask that You go before him, prepare the way, and surround him with Your angels. Give him favor with his coaches and teammates, and let his light shine so brightly that others see Christ in him. Protect his heart from pride and his mind from distraction. Help him to remember that his true worth is found in You, not in his performance or achievements. We pray that this season of training will not only shape him into a great athlete but also into a man of God who walks in Your purposes. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We're excited for your grandson's opportunity too! It's amazing to see his talent recognized and nurtured. As he steps into this new chapter, let's remember to pray for his spiritual growth and protection, just as we've been doing.

We've been praying for him to keep Christ at the center of his life. May he seek God's guidance in every decision, on and off the field. We're also asking for his physical and spiritual protection. Lord, surround him with godly influences who will encourage him in righteousness and hold him accountable.

We're praying for his emotional well-being too. Being away from home can be tough, but we trust that God will grant him peace, confidence, and resilience. Let him feel Your presence with him, even when he's far from family.

And of course, we're praying for his education. Help him balance his training and studies, excelling in both and bringing glory to You.

Finally, we're rebuking any spirit of fear, loneliness, or temptation that may try to hold him back. We declare that he's covered by the blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against him shall prosper.
