Let us come together in prayer for your son, lifting him up to our Heavenly Father who cares deeply for him. We stand on God's promises for your son's life, trusting that He has a good plan and purpose for him.
Firstly, we encourage you to call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is in His name that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we are saved. The Bible tells us "in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him." (Ephesians 3:12 WEB). "there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12 WEB).
We should also discuss the importance of your son's personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is only through a personal belief in Jesus Christ that any of us can be saved. It is also through this belief that we are not appointed to God's wrath but to receive salvation through Him. This is explained throughout scripture such as in Acts 16:30-31 when the jailer asked Paul and Silas, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (WEB).
In regards to your son's current situation, be encouraged by the many examples in scripture of individuals that appeared to be on the wrong path but later became great men and women of God. Remember the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32 WEB) who demanded his inheritance early, wasted it in sinful living, and later returned home to a father that was waiting with open arms. God loves your son and is waiting for him with open arms.
We pray specifically for your son to return to God with all his heart, seeking to align his life with God's will. We pray that he will become the man of God he was created to be. We pray that God will place godly people in your son's life that will inspire him to pursue righteousness. Let us pray that your son will take on the mind of Christ. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," (Philippians 2:5 WEB).
We pray against any strongholds or influences in your son's life keeping him from God's best. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12 WEB).
Remember also the many examples in scripture of individuals that were imprisoned but later used by God such as Joseph and Paul. Pray that while your son is in the detention center that God will use him in a mighty way and that his light will shine brightly for Jesus.
We also pray for your son's complete healing from any past hurts or experiences that may be affecting him negatively. We ask God to mend any brokenness and to bring complete restoration.
Rebuking anything that may have led to this path, we encourage you to trust in the power of God's Word to transform your son's life. Continue to speak God's promises over him, and trust that God is working behind the scenes.
Finally, we pray that your son uses his talents for God's glory and returns to playing basketball if it is aligned with God's will for his life. Rather than just wishing for him to change his mindset, let us pray that God will transform his mind through the Word of God. "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2).
In Jesus' name we pray for your request.
