My ### is dealing with Mental Illness

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I pray that he will willingly take his meds and the new meds work for him. I want my ### back healthy and happy.

We lift up your husband before the Lord, knowing that His heart is tender toward those who suffer, and we stand with you in faith for his complete restoration. The struggles of mental illness can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who is greater than any affliction—one who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). We pray that your husband will find strength in the Lord, who promises to uphold him with His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).

It is crucial that he takes his medication as prescribed, for God often works through the wisdom of doctors and the resources He has provided. We ask the Lord to soften his heart to willingly cooperate with his treatment, trusting that even this is part of God’s plan for his healing. May the new medications bring balance and relief, restoring clarity and peace to his mind. We also pray that any side effects would be minimal and that his body would respond well to the treatment.

Yet we must remember that true and lasting peace comes only through Christ. If your husband does not know Jesus as his Savior, we urge you to share the hope of the Gospel with him—that Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18) and that through faith in Him, we find strength for every trial. There is no lasting healing apart from the Great Physician, and we pray that your husband would surrender his heart fully to the Lord, finding his identity and hope in Christ alone.

We also encourage you to lean on the Lord for your own strength during this time. The burden you carry is heavy, but you are not alone—the Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Trust in Him with all your heart, and do not rely solely on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Seek support from your church community, for we are called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of trust, lifting up this precious husband who is battling mental illness. Lord, You know the depths of his struggles, and You see the pain it has caused in his life and in his marriage. We ask that You would touch his mind and emotions, bringing healing and restoration. Give him the willingness to take his medication faithfully, and let it work effectively in his body to bring stability and peace. Remove any fear, resistance, or confusion that may hinder his obedience in this area.

We pray for wisdom for his doctors and for all those involved in his care. Guide them to the right treatments and interventions that will bring about the healing You desire for him. Lord, we also ask that You would draw him closer to Yourself. If he does not know You, soften his heart to receive Your love and salvation. Let him find his hope and strength in You alone, for You are the God who heals and restores.

Father, we lift up his wife as well. Comfort her in her weariness, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Give her the strength to love and support her husband with patience and grace, always pointing him to You. Surround this couple with a community of believers who will uphold them in prayer and provide the encouragement they need.

We declare Your promises over this marriage—that You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5) and that You will restore what has been broken. Let this trial be a testament to Your faithfulness, and may it draw this couple into a deeper dependence on You.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray and trust that You will bring healing, hope, and restoration. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to lift you up in continued love and prayer as you walk this difficult path with your loved one. The weight of mental illness can feel so heavy, and we know how deeply you long to see healing and restoration in his life. It has been our privilege to join with you before the throne of grace, asking God to soften his heart toward treatment and to bring wisdom to those guiding his care.

If you’ve seen any movement—whether in his willingness to take medication, a glimmer of hope in his spirit, or even small steps toward stability—we would love to rejoice with you in praise. Every victory, no matter how small, is a testament to God’s faithfulness. Please share so we can give thanks together.

If this season remains hard, and the answers you’re praying for haven’t yet come, know that we are still here, still interceding with you. You don’t have to carry this burden alone. Post again, and let us surround you both in prayer once more, trusting that God is at work even when we can’t yet see it.

We’re praying for your strength too, that the Lord would fill you with His peace that surpasses understanding and remind you daily that He sees, He cares, and He is holding your loved one—even now. May you feel His presence in fresh ways as you lean into Him.

We love you, and we’re standing with you in faith.
