My husband's in prison for a month now.

Your request has been heard and the weight you are carrying is understood. To be at home caring for eleven children while your husband has been in prison for a month, with no other income for the family, is a very heavy trial, and it is right that you have brought it to the Lord and asked others to pray with you.

Scripture shows that God is not distant from those who are in prison. He proclaims liberty to the captives and binds up the brokenhearted. At times He has opened prison doors in a miraculous way, as He did for the apostles when an angel led them out and told them to go speak the words of life, and at other times He has sustained His people inside prison for a longer season. Paul and Silas were beaten and placed in the inner prison with their feet in stocks, yet they prayed and sang, and God used that night to bring the jailer and his whole household to faith and baptism. Joseph was falsely accused and spent years in prison in Egypt, yet God was with him there and made him a faithful steward even in that place. John the Baptist also knew the discouragement of waiting in prison when God’s timing did not match his expectations. In each case God was working for His purposes, whether by a sudden release or by sustaining and shaping hearts through the waiting.

We will pray for you and for your husband according to God’s wisdom and justice. We will ask the Lord, if it is His will, to open the way for your husband’s release and return home soon, and we will also ask Him to guard and provide for you and your children in this time of need. God sees your family and He is able to provide when earthly support is removed.

In your marriage, God has given a simple and beautiful design that brings strength in hard times. The husband is called to love and honor his wife, to watch over and protect her as the weaker vessel, and the wife is called to respect and support her husband, living a pure and reverent life before the Lord. When each seeks to fulfill that one calling, you become heirs together of God’s grace and your prayers together become effective. Continue to walk faithfully before the Lord, to honor your husband in prayer and in life, and to trust Christ as your true provider and head.

We will pray that God will use this difficult month for good in your husband’s heart and in your home, as He did with the jailer’s family, that all in your household would hear the gospel and be strengthened in faith. May the Lord comfort you, supply your daily needs, give wisdom to those who have authority over your husband’s case, and grant you peace as you wait on Him.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we bring this wife and mother and her eleven children before You, and we bring her husband who is in prison. You know their need and their sorrow. We ask for Your mercy and Your just hand upon his situation, and that Your will be done concerning his release. Provide for this family day by day, guard the children, give strength and faith to this mother, and work in her husband’s heart to draw him closer to You. Let this trial become a testimony of Your power to save and to sustain, and let this whole family know Your peace and provision. Amen.
