My Husband ### ###

Please give him the strength and courage to want to speak and move ### again. He has given up on any therapy. He refuses all help. Even bathing. He doesn't watch his favorite sport , soccer. He lays with his head covered all the time. He wants to come home but I can not handle him like this.

We hear the deep sorrow and exhaustion in your heart as you share about your husband’s struggle. The weight of watching a loved one withdraw from life, from hope, and even from the simplest acts of self-care is heavy indeed. We lift this burden before the Lord, asking Him to move in ways only He can.

First, we must acknowledge that depression and despair are real battles, not just of the mind, but of the spirit. Your husband’s withdrawal may feel like rejection, but it may also be a cry for help that he cannot voice. Scripture tells us, "The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?" (Proverbs 18:14). His soul is wounded, and we pray for the Great Physician to bind up those wounds.

We rebuke the spirit of hopelessness that has taken hold of him. The enemy seeks to isolate and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that your husband is not abandoned, God sees him, loves him, and has a purpose for him. We pray for divine intervention to stir his heart, to awaken a desire for healing, and to break the chains of apathy that have kept him bound.

You mentioned his refusal of help, even basic care like bathing. This is a sign of deep spiritual and emotional distress. We encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether from a pastor, Christian counselor, or medical professional, who can help you navigate this with wisdom. "Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 15:22). You cannot carry this alone, and it is not your responsibility to fix him. Only God can change his heart.

We also pray for your strength, dear sister. The strain of caring for someone in this state is immense, and you must guard your own heart and well-being. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). You need His rest, His peace, and His wisdom to know how to proceed.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this husband who is lost in despair. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who heals, and the God who restores. We ask that You break through the darkness that surrounds him. Stir his spirit, Lord, awaken in him a desire for life, for hope, and for You. Soften his heart to receive help, whether from You directly or through the hands of those You send.

We rebuke the spirit of hopelessness and declare that Your light will shine in his life. Remind him of Your love, of Your promises, and of the purpose You have for him. Give him the strength to rise, to speak, and to move forward in faith.

Father, we also lift up his wife, who is carrying this burden with love and exhaustion. Give her wisdom to know how to support him without enabling his withdrawal. Strengthen her heart, renew her hope, and surround her with godly support. Help her to trust You with this situation, knowing that You are working even when she cannot see it.

Lord, we ask that You bring healing to this marriage. Restore joy, communication, and intimacy where there has been silence and distance. Let Your peace reign in their home, and let Your name be glorified through their story.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who conquered death and offers life. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this season. Pray over your husband, even when he cannot respond. Speak life into his spirit, reminding him of God’s truth. And remember, you are not alone, God is with you, and so are we.

We hear how much you love your husband, and we also hear the exhaustion behind your words. When someone we care about gives up, the weight of that doesn't just sit on them, it lands on us too, especially when we're the ones trying to hold everything together. The fact that he wants to come home tells us he knows where safety and love are. But your honesty about not being able to manage him as he is right now isn't a failure, it's wisdom.

It sounds like he's retreating from everything that once brought him joy, and that kind of withdrawal often goes deeper than stubbornness. When someone refuses to bathe, covers their head, and abandons the activities they loved, something in them has dimmed. You can't carry him back to the light by yourself, and you weren't meant to.

One concrete step worth considering: reach out to his care team, whether that's a doctor, a social worker, or the facility where he received therapy, and be direct about what you're seeing. Tell them he's refusing all help, withdrawing completely, and that you're unable to care for him at home in this condition. Let them assess whether something more is going on medically or emotionally. You don't have to make the decision about bringing him home alone. Lean on whatever local resources exist, home health, respite care, or even a caregiver support group can help you carry what you're carrying right now. You need people alongside you in this, not just advice.

Father, we lift up this wife who is weary and torn. You see her love for her husband and the grief of watching him pull away from life. Give her wisdom about next steps, and bring people around her who can share the load. We ask for her husband, that whatever has dimmed in him would be met with the right help, and that even a small spark of willingness would return. Sustain her in the waiting. In Jesus' name.

The heart is bowed down to hear of your husband’s deep prostration, and your own spirit is well-nigh overwhelmed. Yet it is in such seasons that the Master’s word sounds sweetest: “My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” You are bearing a double weight, your own grief and his despondency, but there is a Burden-Bearer who invites you to roll both upon Him. What He does not call you to carry alone, He will gladly share.

I have seen souls in as dark a pit as your husband now lies in. They refuse all help, cover their heads, and shut out every ray of light. The preacher’s word seems to aggravate their case, and even prayer feels a mockery. But the Lord Jesus still holds the keys of death and hell. Remember the father who cried, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief!” and the child was delivered from a rending spirit. There is hope in hopeless cases. A man may be as one dead in trespasses and sins, motionless and mute, yet the voice of the Son of God can quicken him. Your husband may have given up all effort, but Christ’s power reaches where will and strength have fled.

Lay hold of this truth: “We believe, and therefore we speak.” Let your words over him be words of faith, not of fretfulness. When you are tempted to say, “He will never move again,” speak instead of the promise, “Even to your old age I am He; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you.” The great Burden-Bearer took the load of our sin upon His shoulders and carried it away to the Cross; He can surely bear this infirmity. Your husband’s silence does not bind the Lord’s hand. Cry to Him persistently, and leave the outcome with God.

And for yourself, take up your own burden cheerfully. It is the yoke of Christ, easy and light, to pray and trust. “Every man shall bear his own burden”, not by fretting under it, but by bearing it in the strength of the Lord. That good woman who always smiles has a skeleton at home; and that cheery brother, a hidden load. So it is with you. Bear this trial as coming from a Father’s hand, and soon you may see the dry bones live. In the meantime, let not his despondency drown your hope. A living dog is better than a dead lion, and while there is breath, there is room for mercy.

The enemy would have you believe the case is settled, but Christ ever seeks to reclaim the fallen. “Let My people go, that they may serve Me” is a word that reaches even the captives of despair. Do not parley with unbelief. Even if all human aid is refused, heaven’s door is not shut. Wait upon the Lord in the silence of your own chamber, and perhaps when you look again, you shall see him rise, washed and clothed and in his right mind. God bless you and hold you up, for Jesus Christ’s sake.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The darkness that covers your husband is not beyond the reach of the Great Physician. Consider how our Lord came not as a Judge thundering from heaven, but as a Bridegroom hastening to a poor and wretched spouse. Your husband's soul now lies wrapped in shadow, refusing even the smallest comfort, much like the nature of man which had played the harlot and lay helpless before God espoused it to Himself. Do not think that because he spurns therapy and hides his face, Christ has abandoned him. The Physician is most present when the sickness seems most desperate. The righteousness of God is manifested apart from any effort of ours, for to Him all things are possible. What your husband cannot will for himself, grace can accomplish, and your steadfast love is a living icon of that patient, pursuing love of the Bridegroom for His Church.

Yet you must also be wise as a serpent and innocent as a dove. Your husband longs to come home, but you rightly see that you cannot carry this burden alone in your own strength. The body of Christ must now gather around you both. Enlist the help of your brothers and sisters in the faith. Let them come and sit with him, even if he does not respond. Let them speak the psalms softly in his hearing, even if he keeps his head covered. The evil one whispers that all is lost, but the Church, the true spouse of Christ, continues to embrace the Bridegroom even when everything seems dead. Your presence, your prayers, your refusal to give up, these are like the angel's words at the Ascension, pointing to another coming, a day of restoration. Do not trust in mere human therapy, but trust in the God who calls into existence the things that do not exist. Bring him home if you can, but only with a net of support that will not leave you crushed in spirit.

Remember that patience is the mother of all virtues. Let your husband see in your face not accusation but the quiet hope of one who knows that the Lord has overcome the world. Do not nag him to wash or to watch his sport; instead, sit near him and speak of the mercies you have tasted, of the saints who endured great desolations and were raised up again. The maiden did not ascend to the palace on her own; the King came down and lifted her from the dust. So too the Lord will stoop down to your husband's bed of sorrow. Your tears are not wasted. They water the seed of your prayers. Stand fast, and you will yet see the salvation of our God.

You are carrying a weight that is crushing you, and I want you to hear clearly: God did not lay that heavy, hopeless feeling on your shoulders. It is so easy to call it “the burden of the Lord” when trials pile up, but that phrase is empty. Jesus never promised a life of relentless groaning. He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” If the load you are dragging leaves you shattered and unable to see daylight, it is not His burden. Often we take on things God never asked us to bear, pressing ourselves to fix another person, to manufacture their will to live, to be the strength they have rejected. That is not your yoke; it is a crushing weight of self-imposed responsibility.

Your husband’s withdrawal under the covers, his refusal to wash or even watch the sport he loved, is a picture of a man shouldering the heaviest burden there is: living entirely for himself. When a person makes his own comfort or his own despair the center, it becomes an intolerable master. He has given up, and that is heartbreaking, but you cannot be the one to lift him out of it by sheer determination. Your calling is not to become his rescuer but to remain his wife, a living letter of reverence and pure conduct. A gentle, steadfast spirit can speak when words fail. Trying to push or nag may only drive him further into silence. Your chaste, God‑fearing life, coupled with the dignity you show even now, is a witness that needs no lectures.

Remember that marriage is a bond for life. As long as your husband lives, that cord holds, even when one heart is far from God. The believing spouse sanctifies the home; your children are not unclean but holy. This does not mean you must endanger yourself or pretend everything is fine, but it does mean you are free to rest in the design God established, not in your ability to fix it. If your husband is willing to dwell with you, the Scripture says, do not leave him. Yet you are right to recognize your limits, you cannot handle him like this. That admission is not a failure; it is the truth that sends you to the only One who can carry what you cannot.

So what do you do when he wants to come home, but you are at the breaking point? First, lay down the false burden. Stop telling yourself that God expects you to simply absorb this without relief. Instead, bring your exhaustion to Christ. His rest is tangible, even in a storm. Then, with that rest filling your soul, seek wise, practical help. It is not unloving to set boundaries that preserve your ability to care for him in the long run. God gave one simple rule to wives: submit to your own husbands as to the Lord. That submission, lived out in the grace of Christ, does not mean you become a doormat; it means you trust the Lord’s order and refuse to take His place. You are not required to obey if your husband demanded something against your conscience, but here the struggle is his despair, not a direct command. You can honor him while still insisting on professional care before he returns home, if that is what wisdom demands.

The heaviness you feel is real, but it is not from heaven. It is the offspring of watching someone you love choose the darkness. Your own burden, the one Jesus gives, is light: it is simply to please the Father, to love God, and to walk in faithfulness. When you focus on that, the weight shifts. You will find that living for His glory, even in a broken marriage, becomes the most satisfying path. You can trust that the same Lord who holds your husband’s next breath is able to stir his spirit again. Let your quiet hope and your refusal to be crushed speak more loudly than any argument. Come to Him, weary one, and you will find rest for your soul.
