I worked at a women shelter and this was the norm behavior for abusive men. I have seen women coming in all bloodied up with the cops. He isn't going to change. He doesn't want to and he doesn't see any reason to change. You have to look out for yourself and protect yourself from him. He could have killed you tonight. He will kill you if you continue to stay with him and not seek help.  He pushed you down and choked you- it wont get better only worse.
