We are deeply grieved to hear of the pain and brokenness you are experiencing as your wife has filed for divorce. Our hearts ache with yours, and we stand with you in fervent prayer, lifting this situation before the Lord, who is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We know that marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect His love and faithfulness, and we mourn when that covenant is fractured.
First, we want to rebuke the spirit of division and hardness of heart that has entered your marriage. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and we declare that his plans will not prevail. We stand on the promise that what God has joined together, no man, or circumstance, should separate (Matthew 19:6). We also rebuke any ungodly influences, bitterness, or unforgiveness that may have taken root in either of your hearts. The Word of God commands us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Colossians 3:13), and we pray that any offense would be released into the hands of the Lord.
We must also address the reality of sin and its consequences. Divorce is not God’s design, and we know it brings deep pain to all involved, especially your precious son. However, we also recognize that we live in a fallen world where hearts can grow cold and people can stray from God’s will. If there has been any unrepentant sin in your marriage, whether it be pride, neglect, unfaithfulness, or anything else, we urge you to examine your own heart first. Scripture tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Humility and repentance are the first steps toward healing.
We pray now for your wife, that the Lord would soften her heart and open her eyes to the beauty of reconciliation. Father, we ask that You would remove any scales from her eyes, as You did for Paul on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:18), so that she may see the truth and the value of the covenant she entered into with her husband. We pray that You would surround her with godly counsel, believers who will speak life and truth into her situation, not those who would encourage her to walk away from her marriage. Lord, we ask that You would convict her of any hardness of heart and draw her back to You and to her husband.
We also lift you up, dear brother. This is a time of great testing, but we know that God is faithful to strengthen and sustain you. We pray that you would find your hope and identity in Christ alone, not in the outcome of this situation. The Lord is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We encourage you to cling to Him, to seek His face daily, and to saturate your mind with His Word. Meditate on passages like Psalm 51, where David cries out for restoration, or Hosea 2, where God promises to allure His wayward people back to Himself.
We must also speak to the importance of prayer and fasting. Jesus told His disciples that some battles are only won through prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21). We encourage you to set aside time to fast and pray, seeking the Lord’s intervention in this situation. Ask Him to reveal any areas where you need to grow or change, and to give you the strength to love your wife as Christ loves the Church (Ephesians 5:25), even in this difficult season.
For your son, we pray that he would be shielded from the pain of this separation. Father, we ask that You would be a Father to him, comforting him and reminding him of Your love. We pray that he would see the love of Christ in both of his parents, even amid this trial, and that he would grow in wisdom and understanding as he witnesses his father’s faith in action.
We also want to remind you that while reconciliation is our heart’s desire, we must ultimately surrender this situation to the Lord. His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9), and we trust that He is working all things together for good (Romans 8:28), even when we cannot see the outcome. If your wife’s heart remains hardened, we pray that you would find the strength to release her to the Lord, trusting that He will care for you and your son.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to You. Lord, You are the God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). We ask that You would intervene in this situation and soften the heart of this wife. Remove any hardness, bitterness, or unforgiveness that has taken root, and replace it with Your love and grace. Father, we pray that You would restore what has been broken and reunite this couple in a way that brings glory to Your name.
We pray for this husband, that You would be his strength and his shield. Give him the wisdom to navigate this season with grace and humility. Help him to love his wife as Christ loves the Church, even when it is difficult. Lord, we ask that You would provide him with godly counsel and support, surrounding him with believers who will uplift and encourage him.
For their son, we ask that You would be his comfort and his peace. Shield him from the pain of this separation and remind him daily of Your love. Father, we pray that he would grow into a man of God, strong in faith and full of wisdom.
Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against this marriage will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We rebuke the spirit of division and declare that Your will, reconciliation and restoration, will prevail. If there is any sin that needs to be confessed or repented of, we ask that You would bring it to light and lead both of them into repentance and forgiveness.
We trust You, Lord, with this situation. We surrender it into Your hands, knowing that You are faithful and just. May Your name be glorified in this marriage, and may Your love be the foundation that holds it together. In the mighty and precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
