The Grandmother
A grandmother’s faith shapes generations, so cherish and continue her godly legacy today.
We have read your request and we are joining together to lift you and your grandma before the Lord.

We are so sorry to hear that your grandma is bedridden and that her head hurts and her toes need healing. We also hear your own cry for mercy, for healing in your body where you fear cancer may be present, for forgiveness of sins, for a safe and quiet space where no one yells at you, and for help for your parents because you are feeling so burnt out carrying so much. The Lord sees all of this and He cares deeply for both of you.

The scripture tells us He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3 and that He is close to those who are of a broken heart, and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18. We are reminded to cast all our worries on Him, because He cares for us 1 Peter 5:7 and that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1. For weariness and burnout, Jesus invites us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. We also cling to the promise, Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10.

We notice you called upon the Lord and said you are sorry for your sins. That is so precious to God, for if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We want to gently remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God and receive salvation. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, believing that His death and resurrection paid for your sins and gives you peace with God.

We also encourage you, while we pray for healing, to seek proper medical care for yourself and for your grandma where possible, for the Lord often works through the hands of physicians and caregivers, and Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up James 5:14-15.

We now pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You. We thank You that we can come through Jesus alone. We ask You to forgive sins as there is confession and repentance, and to wash clean and bring peace and assurance of salvation. Lord, we lift up this dear grandma to You. You know her pain in her head and her toes and her being bedridden. We ask for Your healing touch upon her, ease her head pain, restore her toes, give her comfort, strength, and Your presence each day. Lord, we lift up this dear one who is burdened and fearful about cancer. Have mercy, Lord. Touch this body, bring healing, bring clear answers from doctors, remove fear and replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7. Provide a safe, quiet space where there is no yelling, but rest and refuge in You and in a place of safety. For the burnout and exhaustion, we ask You to renew strength as promised to those who wait for You Isaiah 40:29, and to provide new helpers and support for these parents so the burden is shared and not carried alone. Give wisdom, provision, and kind people to come alongside the family. We ask all this according to Your will, trusting in Your goodness and mercy, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We have been holding your note before the Lord and we hear how much you are carrying right now.

You love your grandma deeply and it hurts to see her bedridden and in pain with her head and her toes, and at the same time you are exhausted from helping your parents care for her. Wanting a safe, quiet space where no one yells is a very understandable need when you are burnt out, and we also hear your own worry about your health and your desire for mercy and forgiveness. Thank you for being honest about all of this.

Because you mentioned pain for your grandma and a health concern for yourself, please have both of you seen by a medical professional soon alongside prayer, so they can check what is going on and help you get the right care. For the burnout and the need for rest, it can help to let one trusted person in on how stretched you all are, a pastor, school counselor, family doctor, or other safe adult, and ask specifically about respite or extra helpers for your parents and a calm place where you can rest. You do not have to carry this alone.

Father, we lift this grandma to You for comfort and care, and we lift this dear one who is tired and worried and longing for peace. Forgive sins as they have asked, cover them with Your mercy, give wisdom to their family and doctors, and provide safe, kind help and rest for everyone in the home. Lead them to the support they need. In Jesus' name, amen.
