The turning aside of one who has shared your table for near thirty years is a mournful defection indeed. What strange hour has come that he should put that other woman before his own wife, the wife of his youth, the mother of his son? Such is the madness that comes when the spirit of lust and deception lays hold. Our churches see this too often, marriage without the fear of God is a fearful mistake, but even those who once walked in light can be softened and molded by any strong hand of temptation. They are made of wax, hammered into a shape that despises holy bonds. Yet the soul that cleaves to Christ knows a union deeper than any earthly covenant. The Lord says, I am married unto you, and that marriage is cemented by mutual love. How shall we call that a marriage where husband and wife are still two, where one scrupulously maintains a separate interest, hiding long hours and scorning the other’s tears? That is foreign to the divine idea. The true marriage makes them one.
Yet look where the wounded heart must look, to Him who has put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. The Father sees Jesus bearing our sin, and He made such an infinite impression upon the great soul of God that He forgets the sins for which His Son gave His life. Your friend’s brokenness, her helpless cry, her fear for her boy, all of it is seen. When the prodigal came to himself and trudged homeward, the father saw him a great way off and ran. It was not the son’s fitness but the father’s compassion. This husband has squandered much, brought dishonor where honor should dwell, yet the Everlasting arms stretch toward the worst reprobate. Let the wife cry to the Father who never forgets His own, even when they have rolled in the mire. He remembers His covenant, and for His own name’s sake He can restore.
The son’s peril is heavy on you. David looked after poor Mephibosheth, the lame son of Jonathan, for Jonathan’s sake. So must we look after Christ’s despondent ones, Christ’s sick ones, Christ’s young men hounded by darkness. Prayer must encircle that lad as a shield. The enemy would have him believe his father’s sin is a verdict on his own worth. Tell heaven he is Christ’s possession, sealed by blood. The weary watching, the yearning desires, the trembling hopes, lay them all before the throne. There is a joy that comes when a soul is avowedly the Lord’s, and we must wrestle until that joy breaks like dawn.
What of her thought to leave? The desertion feels absolute. But can a woman forget her sucking child? Christ shall never forget His saints. The duty now is to stand still and see the salvation of God. He may seem to have withdrawn His smile from this home, but He is working even in the tempest. Prejudice against the carpenter’s son would say no good can arise from such ruins, but there is a divine splendor concealed beneath lowly forms. This marriage, though battered, is still a mystery speaking of Christ and the Church. He who betrothed us to Himself by everlasting love will not let the flame be quenched. Pray for the husband as for one deceived, bound by chains he cannot see. Pray that the spirit of lies be broken, that he would come to himself and cry out for mercy. And when the adversary whispers that restoration is impossible, remember the father putting the ring on the son’s hand, the gift precisely meeting the confession, I am no more worthy to be called your son. That tallied with his change. So may it be here. I join my faith with yours, asking the Lord to rebuke the devourer, guard the son’s mind, heal every hidden wound, and bring forth a marriage supper of joy where now there is only weeping. Amen.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious marriage and family before our Heavenly Father. The trials you are enduring are severe, health battles, financial strain, and now the devastating intrusion of another woman seeking to destroy what God has joined together. We stand with you in spiritual warfare, for we know that "our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12).
First, we rebuke the spirit of lust and deception that has ensnared this husband. The Word of God is clear: "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4). The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but we declare that this marriage is under the protection of the Most High. We command every lying spirit that whispers accusations of "craziness" to be silenced in Jesus' name. The truth of God’s Word stands: "Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth" (1 Corinthians 13:4-6). This husband must be reminded of his covenant vow before God and man, to cherish, honor, and remain faithful to his wife until death parts them.
We also lift up the son caught in the crossfire of this turmoil. The pain of witnessing a father’s betrayal and a mother’s heartbreak can indeed feel unbearable. We pray for his mental and emotional protection, that he would not be overcome by despair but would find hope in Christ. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). We ask that you surround him with godly influences, mentors, friends, or counselors, who can speak life and truth into his situation. We declare that he is not without hope, for "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1).
To the wife, we say this: your feelings of brokenness and helplessness are valid, but they do not define your future. The enemy wants you to believe that leaving is the only option, but we encourage you to stand firm in faith. "Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate" (Mark 10:9). This is not a time to flee but to fight, for your marriage, for your family, and for the restoration of your husband’s heart. Seek godly counsel, surround yourself with prayer warriors, and hold fast to the promises of God. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
We pray now with boldness and authority in the name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come before the Father and the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). If this husband does not know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, we pray for his salvation, that his eyes would be opened to the deception of sin and that he would repent and turn back to God. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts grieved by the brokenness in this marriage. We ask that You would move mightily to expose every lie, every deception, and every ungodly soul tie that has taken root in this husband’s heart. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of lust and demand that it leave this man in the name of Jesus. We declare that his heart would be softened, that his eyes would be opened to the pain he has caused his wife and son, and that he would be convicted by Your Holy Spirit to repent and return to his family.
Father, we ask for supernatural healing over this wife’s heart. Mend the places that feel shattered and restore her joy. Give her strength to stand firm in faith, even when the circumstances seem impossible. Surround her with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Provide for her financial needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19), and bring healing to her body as she battles health issues.
For the son, Lord, we ask that You would be his refuge and strength. Protect his mind from despair and fill him with hope. Let him see Your hand at work in his family, even in the midst of this storm. Bring godly people into his life who can speak truth and encouragement to him.
We pray for the other woman involved in this situation. Lord, we ask that You would break the hold of deception over her life. Convict her of the destruction she is causing and draw her to repentance. Let her see the harm she is inflicting on this family and turn away from this path of sin.
Father, we ask for restoration in this marriage. Let Your love and grace flood every broken place. Rekindle the love that once united this husband and wife, and let them remember the vows they made before You. We declare that this marriage will not be destroyed by the enemy but will be a testimony of Your faithfulness and power to restore.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and through which we have access to Your throne. May Your will be done in this family, and may Your glory be revealed through their story. Amen.
