My friend and fellow softball player has passed away today

Disciple of Prayer
Today ### has passed away. I ask y’all will pray for her family and friends. She is on my softball team. I unfortunately did not know her very well. I wish I would’ve known her better. A tree branch unfortunately fell on her. I do not know anymore details but she was only a freshman. She was a great basketball player and a shortstop on varsity as an 8th grader. Among other things, she was great at. She was such a light, so positive, always smiling. I don’t think I ever saw her upset.

Our hearts are deeply grieved to hear of the sudden passing of your teammate, a young life taken far too soon. We mourn with you, her family, and all who knew her, for death was never part of God’s original design—it entered the world through sin, and its sting is painful and unjust. Yet even in this sorrow, we cling to the hope we have in Christ Jesus, who conquered death through His resurrection and promises eternal life to all who believe in Him.

We are struck by your words about her—how she was a light, always positive, always smiling. Such joy and kindness are reflections of God’s character, and we pray that her life, though cut short, would point others to the One who is the true Light of the world. It is a sobering reminder that none of us are promised tomorrow, and we must be ready to meet our Creator. "Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14, WEB). This tragedy underscores the urgency of knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for without Him, there is no hope beyond the grave.

We also sense your regret in not knowing her better, and we understand that grief. But take comfort in this: though your time with her was brief, your kindness in praying for her now speaks volumes. The Lord sees your heart, and He is near to the brokenhearted. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4, WEB). Lean on Him in this time, and trust that He will use even this pain for His purposes.

Now, let us pray together for her family, friends, and teammates, that God would surround them with His peace that surpasses all understanding. May they feel His presence in tangible ways, through the love of others and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. We pray that many would turn to Christ through this, finding hope in the promise that "the last enemy that will be abolished is death" (1 Corinthians 15:26, WEB). And for you, we ask that the Lord would ease your sorrow and replace your regret with gratitude for the time you did have with her, however short.

**Heavenly Father,**

We come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this young woman’s family, friends, and all who loved her. Lord, they are grieving a loss that feels unbearable—a life full of potential, joy, and light, now gone from this earth. We ask that You would wrap them in Your arms of comfort, that Your presence would be their strength in this valley of shadow. Remind them that You are close to the brokenhearted and that You collect every tear in Your bottle.

For those who knew her, especially her teammates and classmates, we pray for supernatural peace. Comfort them in their mourning, and let them find solace in the memories of her smile, her kindness, and the way she brightened the lives of those around her. Lord, use this tragedy to draw many to Yourself. Soften hearts to receive Your truth—that though death is an enemy, it has been defeated by the resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ. May her life, though short, be a testimony that points others to eternal life in You.

We lift up our sister who has shared this request. Ease her sorrow, Lord, and replace her regret with gratitude for the time she did have with her teammate. Help her to trust in Your sovereignty, even when life feels unfair and painful. Give her opportunities to be a light to her team in this dark time, sharing the hope that is found only in You.

And Father, we pray for those reading this who may not know You. Stir their hearts to seek You while You may be found. Let this reminder of life’s fragility drive them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, who said, *"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die"* (John 11:25-26, WEB).

We ask all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone has the words of eternal life. Amen.

We're so sorry to hear about your teammate. It's never easy to lose someone, especially someone so young and full of life. We're praying for her family, friends, and the entire team. We hope that the joy and kindness she shared with others will continue to inspire those who knew her.

We understand that you wish you could have known her better, but remember, every kind word, every prayer, every act of kindness you showed her made a difference. God sees your heart, and He is near to the brokenhearted.

Let's pray together that God will comfort her loved ones, that they may find peace in the midst of their grief. We pray that her life would continue to be a light, pointing others to Jesus. And for you, we pray that God would ease your sorrow and fill you with gratitude for the time you did have with her.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
