My daughter’s lack of empathy!

Anonymous

Beloved of All
First I want to shout out to God for doing great things in my family. However , after trying to get together with my daughter she expressed how mad she is at me which seems to be quite often.
Since my Mums death ; I’ve been out of whack not sleeping to good but that’s on me and I had two teeth removed and I didn’t realize how much pain I’d be in. I missed my Grandsons ### three year Bd party and she compared my grief to a Mother in Law who hasn’t even been in his life for over two years she went even though she had lost her voice.
I’m hurt because my daughter lacks understanding I didn’t do this on purpose and honestly I see this little boy all the time I spend hours playing with him. I think she needs to have a closer relationship with the God who understands why she feels she has to tear me down . I’m trying to do self care. Sorry I know this is so trivial but for some reason my daughter won’t talk to me. So I give this silly matter to God. Thank you all for your support. Praying for all your needs and let us always preach the gospel in season and out! For he is our Savior he is our comforting ABBA Father!

We join with you in giving thanks to God for the great things He has done in your family, and we stand with you in this season of grief and hurt. Your sorrow over the loss of your mother is not trivial at all, and neither is the physical pain and exhaustion you have endured with sleeplessness and having teeth removed. We do not take lightly the ache you feel over your daughter's anger and her unwillingness to talk with you after you missed your grandson's third birthday party.

We hear your heart. You did not miss that celebration out of neglect or lack of love, for you spend hours playing with and loving that little boy faithfully. To have your grief compared to another's situation and to feel torn down when you are already weary is deeply painful. We want to remind you that God sees and cares about even what feels like a small matter to others. As it is written, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 And Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18 He invites you to find true rest in Him, for Jesus said, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 Your desire to practice self care is wise, but we encourage you to let the Lord be your ultimate comfort and healer in this grief, and to allow Him to restore your sleep and strength day by day.

We also lift up your daughter before the Lord with you. We agree that she needs a closer walk with God, who alone can soften hearts and give understanding. Scripture calls children to honor their parents, even in adulthood, as it is written, Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 And we are all called to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 When hurt builds up, it is easy to keep a record of wrongs and to compare struggles, but the Lord calls us to bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13 We pray that the Lord will help her to see your grief and pain with empathy and grace, and help you both to extend forgiveness and to not let bitterness take root. While we understand your hurt, we gently encourage you also to release any resentment toward her and to continue to pursue peace, even when she is not ready to talk, trusting God's timing for reconciliation.

We love your heart to preach the gospel in season and out, and your acknowledgment of God as Savior and comforting Abba Father. We want to lovingly affirm that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 And there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are reconciled to God and can boldly bring every care to Him. We rejoice that you know Him as Savior and we encourage you to continue to call upon the name of Jesus in every prayer.

We pray together now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You with our sister, thanking You for Your faithfulness to her family. We ask You to comfort her in her grief over her mother, to heal her body from pain, and to give her sweet sleep and renewed strength. Lord, wrap her in Your peace that passes understanding and remind her that You see her love for her grandson and her desire to be a godly mother and grandmother. We lift her daughter to You, ask that You draw her close, soften her heart, and give her eyes to see her mother's pain with compassion and understanding. Heal the breach between them, teach them both to forgive as You have forgiven us, and open the door for gentle, honest conversation in Your perfect time. Help our sister to continue to love well, to not grow weary in doing good, and to trust You with what she cannot fix. We pray for that precious little grandson, that he would be raised in the knowledge of Your love. Let this family reflect Your grace and let their home be a testimony of the gospel they love to preach. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our only Savior and hope, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying, keep loving your daughter from a distance while giving her space, and when the door opens, perhaps offer a simple, humble apology for missing the party even though it was unavoidable, and invite a special time to celebrate your grandson together just with you. Continue to seek the Lord daily, stay in His Word, and let Him be your comfort. We are trusting God with you for healing and restored fellowship.

We are grateful you shared this with us, and we thank God with you for the good He has done in your family. Losing your mum while dealing with poor sleep and the pain of having two teeth removed is a lot to carry at once, and it makes sense you felt out of whack and could not make the party.

It hurts when you love your grandson and spend hours playing with him, and then missing his birthday is compared to someone else's situation. That can feel dismissive of both your grief and your physical pain. It is understandable you feel hurt and that your daughter's anger stings, especially when you did not miss it on purpose and you are trying to care for yourself.

When grief is fresh, families often struggle to understand each other's responses and distance can grow even when love is still there. Giving her a little space while keeping the door open can help. When there is a calm moment, a short simple note that you love her and your grandson, you were sorry to miss his day, and you would like to talk when she is ready, can keep connection without pressuring her. Staying connected to trusted friends or your church community as you grieve can also steady you.

Since you mentioned ongoing pain and trouble sleeping, we encourage you to keep following up with your dentist or doctor alongside prayer to make sure you get the care you need.

Father, in Jesus name we bring our sister to You. Comfort her in grief for her mum, ease her pain and give her rest, and bring healing and understanding between her and her daughter. Guide their words and timing and draw them both closer to Your peace. Amen.

Your honest pouring out of heart before the Lord is not trivial at all, and it is right that you have given this matter to God who hears the cries of His children. We thank God with you for the great things He has done in your family, and we sorrow with you in this season of grief and bodily pain. Since your mother's death you have been out of whack, not sleeping well, and suffering after having two teeth removed, and such afflictions of body and mind weigh heavy upon the spirit. To miss your grandson's third birthday party has grieved you, and to feel compared and misunderstood by your daughter has wounded you more deeply still.

Be assured that your love for that little boy is not measured by one day alone. You spend hours playing with him, and that faithful, quiet love speaks of a grandmother's heart that the Lord sees, even when others do not fully understand. Grief has its own timing, and pain has its own voice, and we should not compare one person's sorrow to another's, for the Lord who formed us knows our frame and remembers that we are dust.

You have desired that your daughter might have a closer relationship with the God who understands, and that is a holy prayer. Hear what the Scripture says, There is forgiveness with Thee. This is the great whisper that drives away despair. It is a surprising forgiveness, a complete forgiveness, an eternal forgiveness, not because we deserve it but because Christ has secured it. He not only forgave us at the first, but He continues daily to forgive, and He does not forgive and afterwards accuse. His forgiveness blots out the debt as a creditor who says to the poor debtor, I have cancelled all. However sinful our past may have been, however hard our hearts, there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, and it is to be had now.

And the pattern of that divine forgiveness is set before us to copy. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. Forgiveness among the people of God is to be a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness, and members of Christ's family should take large shares in it. Revenge is paltry, but forgiveness is great minded and ennobling. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands.

Therefore we exhort you in the Lord to hold fast to this. Seek fresh grace to forgive your daughter even as you have been forgiven, and pray that she may be given grace to forgive and to understand your infirmity in this time of mourning and pain. Do not let the door be shut between you. We have known those who have said of a son or daughter, she shall never darken my door again, and yet they are Christians. Let it not be so with you. Keep the door of prayer and of gentle love open, even while you practice needful self care and rest for your body and soul.

We will pray for you, that the Lord will give you sleep, healing from your pain, comfort in your grief for your mother, and wisdom to speak with your daughter in due season. We will pray for your daughter, that the Lord will soften her heart, give her understanding and empathy, and draw her nearer to Himself, and for your grandson, that he may be blessed by the love of his grandmother and the peace of his home. We will pray that in your house the gospel may still be preached in season and out of season, for He is our Savior, our comforting Abba Father, with whom there is forgiveness and from whom all healing comes.

May the Lord, who has begun a good work in your family, perfect it, and keep you both under the covering of that full and eternal forgiveness which is in Christ Jesus.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
