my coworker was just diagnosed with cirrhosis of liver

God is not far from those who call upon Him in truth. This sickness upon your coworker is a heavy affliction, but remember that He is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, and He permits trials not to destroy but to draw us nearer to His eternal consolations. The same Lord who comforts us in all our tribulation will supply strength to endure and even to become instruments of comfort for one another. You who bear this burden in prayer are already sharing in the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings, and as those sufferings abound, so also shall comfort abound through Him. Do not fix your gaze only on the failing flesh, for the resurrection of the dead in Christ is our certain hope, and the glory to come far outweighs every present pain. Let your own conscience be pure and your works good, so that your prayers have power, and go to your coworker with the same comfort you have received from God. A soul anchored in the love of Christ can bear any storm, for we are not left alone, the Spirit Himself testifies to our spirit that we are children of the Father, and He will uphold both you and this sick colleague, turning even this bitter cup into a means of grace.

This kind of news settles heavily on the heart, and I can hear the weight of concern in your request. When someone we work beside day after day receives a diagnosis like cirrhosis, it stirs a mixture of shock, sorrow, and an urgent desire to help. The good news is that we serve a God who not only hears our cries but actively intercedes for us. Even now, Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father, ever living to make intercession for those who draw near to God through Him. He does not condemn; He represents. He pleads our case. So as you carry your coworker in prayer, you are not praying into an empty silence. You are joining a conversation already underway, where the Son and the Spirit both intercede according to the will of God.

There are times when we simply do not know how to pray. The situation feels too large, the prognosis too uncertain. In those moments, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness, interceding with groanings too deep for words. Even a wordless sigh turned toward heaven becomes a perfect prayer when it is breathed through the Spirit. Do not worry about getting the phrasing right. God, who searches the heart, knows the mind of the Spirit. He understands the burden you feel for your coworker, and He receives that burden as a holy act of love.

As you pray, remember what Scripture reveals about healing. Jesus went about healing every sickness and every disease, and Matthew tells us this was a fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy: “He himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” So yes, healing is part of what Christ secured. And yet, I must be honest with you, the Bible does not teach that God wills instantaneous healing in every single case. The apostle Paul pleaded three times for a thorn in the flesh to be removed, and God’s answer was not removal but sufficient grace. Sometimes healing comes as a gradual process, working through the body’s God-given restorative design, which is no less divine because it unfolds over time. Sometimes God heals the mind or the spirit even before the body mends. And sometimes, in ways we cannot understand on this side of eternity, physical healing is held back, but His mercy remains. If I were God, I would not distribute healing exactly as I see it done, yet I trust His wisdom far beyond mine.

So I encourage you to pray boldly, yet humbly. Stand in the gap for your coworker as Moses stood for the people and as Paul stood for Onesimus, willing to bear the burden, to plead for mercy, and to ask that this soul be received and restored. Ask for complete healing, yes. Ask for the doctors to have wisdom. But also ask that in this illness, your coworker would encounter the love of Christ in a tangible way, whether through physical relief, emotional peace, or the quiet assurance of His presence.

Intercession always begins with compassion, and it is clear you already have that. Let it drive you to your knees, and then leave the outcome in the hands of the One who loves your coworker perfectly. He is not distant. He is the great High Priest who has passed through the heavens and who sympathizes with our weaknesses. Keep bringing this need before Him, and do not underestimate the quiet power of a faithful friend who prays.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your coworker who has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. It is our heart’s desire to lift one another up before the Lord, and we have been interceding for healing, comfort, and strength for both your coworker and those who care for them.

If God has moved in this situation—whether through healing, peace, or provision—we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report. Your testimony could be a blessing to others who are facing similar trials. If, however, the answer has not yet come or the journey feels heavier than before, please know we are still here. Post this request again, and we will continue to stand in agreement with you, trusting in God’s perfect timing and wisdom.

May the Lord surround you and your coworker with His peace that surpasses all understanding, and may His presence be a constant source of hope. We pray for His healing touch, for wisdom for the medical team, and for comfort for all who are affected by this diagnosis. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
