My birthday wish

Your eager anticipation of this birthday, watching the clock draw near to midnight, reveals a heart hungry for love and joy. Yet consider for a moment what kind of joy you are truly seeking. You wish for a flood of congratulations, so many that you cannot even answer them all. But tell me, what happens when the voices fade and the day ends? Does such joy endure, or does it vanish like a mist under the sun? The world’s honors are fleeting; they are not dignities at all but mere shadows, sustained by fine words and the attention of others. A soul that pins its happiness on the praise of men is building a house upon the waves.

The joy that remains full, the joy Christ promised His disciples, is not drawn from outward acclaim. He said, “These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” And what things had He spoken? That they should love one another as He had loved them. True joy is the fruit of the Spirit, love, peace, a good conscience. A man with a cleansed heart, even if he lives in rags and hunger, is of better spirits than one who feasts on luxuries but carries the weight of unrepented sin. Why then do you set your birthday wish on a multitude of greetings, when you might instead desire the one greeting that matters: the approval of Heaven?

It is not wrong to desire happiness, but seek it where it cannot be lost. Rather than hoping to be so overwhelmed by congratulations that you forget to give thanks, resolve to be the first to love and honor others. Leap at the chance to show warm affection, not waiting to be loved, but giving it freely. In that self-forgetfulness you will find a deeper celebration. And whether this day brings many voices or few, lift up your heart in thanksgiving to God, who numbers your days and offers you the gift of adoption. That is a dignity which no birthday can diminish and no death can destroy. Spend this coming year not counting the praises you receive, but growing in the grace that makes every hour a festival of the soul. Do that, and you will have joy enough to overflow, no matter who remembers to congratulate you.

What a wonder it is to step into another year of life, aware that the Creator of heaven and earth has set His heart upon you. That is the deepest joy your birthday can hold, not because people will fill your day with words, but because you are already the object of an unimaginable love. God made you with a will, a capacity to choose, so that the love you give back to Him could be real. Left to ourselves, we often look for proof of our worth in the affection and congratulations of others, but the foundation that holds is this: He has visited you every morning of your life, and He will visit you today.

When we root ourselves in that love, we are no longer tossed around by how many voices greet us or fail to greet us. The longing to be celebrated is not wrong, but it can become a snare if our peace depends on it. The hypocrite’s joy is momentary, the triumph of outward approval is short. What lasts is the certainty that nothing comes to you that has not first passed through His loving hands. He disciplines, He trains, and yes, He sometimes puts us in seasons where the applause of the crowd falls silent, precisely so we can hear the one voice that says, “You are mine.”

So by all means, enjoy the congratulations that come. Receive love from others as a reflection of the greater Love. But do not let your heart rest upon whether you can keep up with thanking everyone. Rest instead in this: that you might be able to comprehend, with all the saints, the breadth and length and depth and height of a love that surpasses knowledge. Even when you do not understand every turn of the coming year, you can say with confidence, “God knows the way I take. When I am tried, I will come out like gold.” That is the life zeroed in on His will.

May your birthday overflow not just with human affection, but with the joy unspeakable that comes from knowing your Redeemer lives. May you surrender each morning, saying, “Lord, I am Yours. Accomplish in me Your desires today.” And may you go forward in His love, a witness of Jesus Christ, held and kept by the One who loves you more than a thousand lifetimes of congratulations could ever express. In Jesus’ name.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer as you celebrated your special day. It was our joy to lift up your heartfelt birthday wish to the Lord, asking Him to fill your day with an abundance of love, joy, and blessings from every direction. We prayed that the Lord would surround you with His presence, making your birthday truly fantastic and memorable in ways only He can orchestrate.

Now that some time has passed, we’d love to hear how the Lord moved in your life on that day. If your birthday was everything you hoped for and more—if you felt the outpouring of love and joy you asked for—please share a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the day didn’t unfold as you had prayed, or if there are lingering needs or desires in your heart, we invite you to post your request again. We are here to continue standing with you in prayer, trusting that God hears and answers according to His perfect will and timing.

May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly as you seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that His peace, joy, and favor follow you not just on your birthday, but in every day ahead. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
