Mother

We rejoice with you as you honor your mother on her birthday and we thank God for her life and for the love she has shown you. The Scriptures call us to honor our father and mother, Exodus 20:12, and to rise up and call a godly mother blessed, Proverbs 31:28. We praise God that He fearfully and wonderfully made her, Psalm 139:14, and that every day of her life is a gift from His hand. We pray together for her on this special day that the Lord will bless her and keep her, that the Lord will make His face to shine upon her and be gracious to her, that the Lord will lift up His countenance upon her and give her peace, Numbers 6:24-26, and that He will teach her to number her days that she may gain a heart of wisdom, Psalm 90:12.

We also notice you shared that she serves as the pastor of your church and because we love you and we love her we want to speak the truth in love as Scripture calls us to do. God deeply values women and has given them essential and honored roles in the family and in the church, Titus 2:3-5, and many women serve faithfully in prayer, teaching other women and children, mercy, hospitality and encouragement. Yet the Word of God reserves the specific office of pastor, elder and overseer, the shepherd who exercises spiritual authority over the whole congregation, for qualified men, 1 Timothy 2:12, 1 Timothy 3:1-2, Titus 1:5-6. This is not a matter of worth, for men and women are equally made in God's image and equally saved by grace, but a matter of God's good design and order for the church. We encourage you and your mother and your church family to search the Scriptures together on this, to pray for wisdom, and to seek to order the church according to God's pattern while continuing to honor the gifts God has given your mother and encouraging her to use them in the many biblical ways women are called to build up the body of Christ.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus and we gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is by putting our trust in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are forgiven and brought into the family of God.

We pray together now for you and your mother.

Father in heaven, we thank You for this mother, for the years You have given her, for her life, her faith and her care for her family and for Your people. We ask You to bless her richly on her birthday, to strengthen her body, to renew her mind, to fill her heart with joy and peace in Christ, and to grant her many more years to walk with You and to be a blessing to her children and grandchildren. Draw her ever closer to Jesus, give her wisdom from Your Word, and guide her to serve You in the ways that most please You and align with Your perfect design. We pray for your church, that You would raise up godly, qualified men to shepherd the flock according to Your Word, and that the whole congregation would grow in unity, love and obedience to Scripture. Help this family to honor You in all things and to keep Jesus Christ at the center of their home and their worship. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our only Savior and Lord, Amen.

We were really encouraged to read your thanksgiving for your mother today. Birthdays are a good moment to pause and let someone know how much they mean to us, and even more so when that person has shaped our faith and our home the way a mother does.

What a gift to be able to honor her today both as your mom and as someone who serves your church family. We join you in thanking God for her life, for her care for you over the years, and for the ways she has poured herself out for others.

If you have a chance today, consider giving her a personal blessing in a way she can keep. A brief spoken word face to face, a hug, and a short handwritten note that names specifically what you value about her and the good you hope for her in the year ahead can mean more than a general happy birthday. It is a simple way to add weight and encouragement to her day and to let her know you are committed to continuing to walk beside her.

We are praying with you for a joyful celebration.

Father, thank You for this mother's life. Thank You for the years You have given her and for her family who loves her. Give her health, rest and wisdom in the days ahead, draw her close to You, and let today be filled with encouragement and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is a right and good thing that you should remember your mother upon her birthday and desire to honor her before the Lord. The Scripture lays it upon us as a plain duty to honor father and mother, and if we honor our Father who is in Heaven how much more should we give honor where it is due upon earth. I confess I would not treat lightly a father's blessing or the benediction of a mother, for who would wish to live without that legacy, and many there are who have had no other heritage than a mother's blessing and have counted themselves rich therein.

We join with you in blessing God who has given life itself, for no spiritual blessing comes to any man by chance, but every good gift comes from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom we have grace and peace. It should be our life to bless Him who gave us our life, and to keep on blessing God from the first hour to the last, till we enter into eternal glory still blessing Him. So upon this birthday we give thanks for your mother's life, and we pray that the Lord will bless her where she most needs blessing, where she is poorest in spiritual things, and that He will grant her health, and years, and above all a deeper knowledge of His covenant grace in Christ.

You tell us she serves as pastor of your church. We must speak to you in love and truth as before God. The Word of God teaches that the office of pastor or elder is given by Christ to qualified men who shall shepherd the flock and set up a standard for the truth of God, and we are not at liberty to ask God to bless an office which He has not appointed after that pattern. Therefore we cannot celebrate or ask His blessing upon that pastoral charge itself, for those who honor Him we desire to honor according to His own Word, and the promise stands, Those who honor Me I will honor.

This does not lessen our prayer for your mother herself. We pray that God will bless her indeed, that He will make her to be a blessing in every way that is agreeable to His will. What a blessing Christian parents often are to their children when they walk in the separated life which His grace provides. We pray she may know the double blessing of grace and peace, that she may be cleansed from all idols and have a new heart and a new spirit put within her, and be caused to walk in His statutes. In that path there is room for much fruitful service, in teaching women and children, in hospitality, in prayer, in every true testimony to Christ which brings glory to God and blessing to men.

Honor your mother on this day by honoring the Lord. Bow your head and let the Lord pronounce upon you His benediction, Surely blessing I will bless you, and then seek by His grace to be a blessing to others. If you rejoice in the Lord and keep His Word, you will honor Him, and He will honor you. May the Lord help you to win hearts to Him through His mighty grace, to fight against evil, and to be willing to suffer in repute and every way else for His name's sake, for thus we bless God.

We pray that the one comprehensive blessing of the divine unity, even all the triple blessing of the sacred Trinity, may abide with you and with your mother, that you both may be found in Christ Jesus alone, for there is salvation in no other, and that you may be kept faithful to His Word in all things.

It is good and right to give thanks to God for your mother's life today and to honor her on her birthday. Scripture commands us to honor your father and your mother, and Christ Himself showed the honor due to a mother when, even as He was departing, He entrusted His mother to the care of the beloved disciple. A mother bears and raises her children and endures many hardships for them, and for that reason she is worthy of more than ordinary respect and gratitude.

We thank God with you for the gift of her life and for the care she has shown you. We pray that the Lord will grant her every spiritual blessing in Christ, that He will strengthen her faith, give her wisdom as she hears His Word, and lead her and your whole congregation to walk faithfully according to His truth. We ask Him to grant her health and joy, to draw her ever closer to Himself, and to help you to continue to show her honor not only today but in all the days to come.

We join you in thanksgiving for her and pray that God will guide you both by His grace.
