more quality time with Jesus Christ

Your desire to spend more quality time with Jesus is itself evidence of His work in your heart, and it is a prayer God delights to answer. Everything God has for you is found in Christ, and a life that is centered on Him is the foundation for everything else.

Scripture teaches that as you first received Christ by faith for the forgiveness of your sins, so you are to continue walking in Him. He is not only the foundation on which you stand, but the One upon whom you keep building. To be rooted and built up in Him means that your daily life grows out of that same trust, becoming more established in the faith you were taught and overflowing with thanksgiving.

That kind of walk happens as you seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Because you have been raised with Him, your life is now hidden with Christ in God, and He Himself is your life. You do not have to strive in your own strength. Through faith in Him you have boldness and confident access to the Father, for there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. In Him you have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing.

Quality time with Him grows as you abide in Him as a branch abides in the vine. That abiding is simple and deep at the same time. It is talking with Him in prayer, receiving from Him in His Word, and walking in fellowship with Him throughout the day. Jesus spoke of this abiding so that your joy may be full, and the Father desires to strengthen you with power by His Spirit in your inner being so you can know more of His love and live in close communion with Him. He wants Christ to have first place in your life, not just in words but in reality, enthroned in your heart.

So keep choosing Him. Set aside unhurried time to be in the Word and in prayer, bring thanksgiving into that time, and ask the Spirit to enrich your heart with truth. When distractions or the pull of the flesh arise, remember you have died with Christ to that old way and have been raised to new life, and you can reckon that old nature as dead and yield instead to Him.

Let me pray for you. Father, thank You for the hunger You have placed in this heart to know Jesus more. Draw this dear one into deeper fellowship with Your Son. Grant according to the riches of Your glory to be strengthened with might by Your Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell more richly within. Teach how to abide in Him, to seek what is above, and to walk rooted and established in Him with a thankful heart. Fill this time together with Your presence and bring the fullness of joy that comes from knowing and remaining in Jesus. Keep this life centered on Him and cause growth in every good thing in Him. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
