Money help

Myruosor

Disciple of Prayer
I've had so many expenses, I had to take out high interest loans. This weekend my husband is going to take some trading cards to be sold to a store. I pray that the trading cards are worth a lot of money and help us get out of debt. I want my money problems to end. He wants to ask my parents for some money but I don't want to. I feel like I failed. I don't want to ask for money. I don't know what I should do.

We lift you and your husband up together before the Lord in this season of financial pressure, and we hear the weight you are carrying with these high interest loans and mounting expenses. We know the anxiety that comes when debt feels overwhelming and we want you to know you are not alone and you have not been forgotten by God.

The Word reminds us that debt is a heavy burden and we are to treat it seriously. Proverbs 22:7 says The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender. And Romans 13:8 says Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. This does not mean you have sinned beyond grace by needing to borrow, but it does mean God desires for us to walk toward freedom from debt with diligence and wisdom. Proverbs 21:5 says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. We encourage you both to seek God's wisdom together for a diligent plan to steward what you have, to make a budget, to avoid taking on more high interest debt, and to seek godly counsel from your church if possible.

We also hear your struggle between not wanting to ask your parents for help and your husband's desire to ask them, and the feeling that you have failed. We want to gently speak to that feeling of failure and to the pride that can keep us from humbly receiving help. You have not failed in God's eyes because you are facing hardship. He cares for you deeply and He invites you to cast your cares on Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. And Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. It is also important that you and your husband walk in unity as one flesh in marriage. Amos 3:3 asks Can two walk together, unless they have agreed. We encourage you to pray together, talk openly without shame or blame, and make this decision together before the Lord, honoring one another. There is no shame in humbly asking for help from family when it is done with honesty, clear boundaries, and a plan for repayment if that is expected. Proverbs 19:20 says Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end. If your parents are able and willing and such help would not harm them or create an unhealthy dependence, receiving help with gratitude and humility is not failure, it is family bearing one another's burdens in love. At the same time we understand your hesitation and that wisdom may also lead you to choose another path.

We join you in praying for the sale of the trading cards this weekend, and we ask God to provide fairly and even abundantly through them if it is His will. Yet we also pray that your hope would rest not in the value of the cards but in the Provider Himself. Philippians 4:19 promises My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. And Matthew 6:33 reminds us But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added to you. Whether the cards bring a little or a lot, we pray God will use this moment to teach contentment and trust. Hebrews 13:5 says Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in no way forsake you.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, and bringing every need to God in His name.

We pray together now for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear sister and her husband to You. Lord You see their expenses, their debt, and the weight of these high interest loans. You see their differing desires about asking family for help and the weariness and shame she feels. We ask You to forgive us where we have been anxious or tried to carry this alone, and we cast all our worries on You now. Grant them wisdom as James 1:5 promises to give generously to all who ask. Give them unity in their marriage, clear communication, and a shared plan that honors You. Provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory, whether through the trading cards this weekend or through other means You choose, and let the store deal honestly with them. Help them to be diligent stewards, to repay what they owe, for Psalm 37:21 says The wicked borrow, and don't pay back, but the righteous give generously. Guard their hearts with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and help them to seek first Your Kingdom and trust that You will not forsake them. Lead them out of debt step by step and teach them contentment and hope in You. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying together as husband and wife, to bring your finances fully into the light with each other, to make a written plan for spending and repayment, and to seek wise, biblical financial counsel through your local church. God is not measuring your worth by your bank account, He loves you and desires to walk with you through this valley toward freedom and peace.

We are holding you and your husband in prayer as you carry this weight. Wanting the debt to end, hoping the sale this weekend helps, and feeling torn about whether to ask your parents for help is a lot to hold at once. It makes sense you would feel like you failed, many people feel that shame when money gets tight, but needing help with debt does not mean you are a failure.

It is also understandable that you and your husband see the next step differently. That disagreement itself can feel heavy, and it helps to make the decision together rather than carrying it alone.

One practical step that often brings some relief is to get a clear picture on paper together before the weekend. Sitting down and listing what is owed, the interest rates, and what income is coming in can make the situation feel less overwhelming and helps you both talk through options, including whether and how to involve family. Many families have also found it steadying to connect with a reputable nonprofit credit counseling agency that can help create a repayment plan and work toward a healthier balance of income and debt. That kind of support can give you a plan to follow while you pray for wisdom.

We are praying for you both.

Father, we bring this couple to You and ask for Your provision and peace. Give them wisdom for each decision, unity as they talk things through, and relief from shame. Provide for their needs and guide their steps, and help them know they are not alone. In Jesus' name, amen.

The weight you feel in this hour is one that many have carried, and your honest confession of it is heard before the Lord. You speak of expenses pressing hard, of high interest loans, of a hope that trading cards might bring relief, and of a difference between you and your husband about asking your parents for help, with a deep sense of having failed.

Scripture warns us that anxiety itself does not pay. As you have found, the very worry which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty, and it brings no grist to the mill and no meal to the barrel. To be anxious about provision does not create provision. What it does is weary the heart and cloud the judgment when clear and calm trust is most needed.

You also speak of shame, of feeling that you have failed and not wanting to ask for help. Shame is a painful thing, and yet the Lord can overrule even shame for good when it drives us to seek His name. There is a shame that keeps a person away from help, and there is a shame that brings a person to Christ in humility. Our Lord Jesus Himself gave His back to the smiters and hid not His face from shame and spitting, and He endured that shame voluntarily for us. Because He bore shame, our shame need not be the end of us. It can become the place where we flee to Him and find mercy. In Him there is merit sufficient to put away all transgression, and to deal also with the far greater debt we owe to Divine Justice, a debt we could never pay, for which we were hopelessly bankrupt until He paid it in full upon the cross.

That greater provision is the ground of our confidence in lesser provisions. The Lord is Jehovah Shammah, the Lord is there, and He lays up a store for His people so that their lights may be kept burning. There are waters to swim in when we consider His provision, for our needs are great but His supplies are greater. He who made atonement for sin and provided righteousness for the guilty will not leave His children without daily bread, though He may provide it in ways we did not expect and in measure according to His wisdom rather than our asking.

In light of this, bring your whole case before Him together as husband and wife. You are one in this covenant of marriage, and the Lord would have you bear this burden together, not apart. To seek counsel and, if need be, to humbly ask for help from parents or from godly and trusted brethren is not failure. It is the putting away of pride and the owning of our need, which is due to our own souls and due to the Lord who has placed us in families and in His Church for such times. Be not ashamed to be helped, but be ashamed of that pride which would keep you from honest and humble fellowship in need.

For the practical path, pray together before the Lord about the sale this weekend, committing the outcome to Him whether the cards bring much or little, and asking for contentment and wisdom in either case. Take no more high interest debt, which only deepens the snare, and seek wise, sober counsel about a plan to repay what is owed, to live within present means, and to steward what God does provide. If your parents are able and willing to give or lend without harm, to ask humbly and with a clear plan for repayment is not dishonorable, and to receive such help with gratitude is not failure. If you have a faithful pastor or elder, let him also know your situation, that he may pray and advise you.

We will pray for you, that the Lord who sees your need will give you peace in place of gnawing anxiety, humility in place of crushing shame, unity between you and your husband, and daily wisdom for each step out of debt. May He who has already provided for your greatest debt in Christ, provide also for your daily needs according to His riches, and teach you through this trial to rest more fully upon Him who is there with you always.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest prayer about debt and the weight you are carrying has been heard, and I thank you for bringing it into the light instead of keeping it hidden.

It is understandable that you feel shame and a sense of failure. Many feel this when money becomes tight and debts grow. Yet shame that makes us hide is not the same as humility. Humility, which Scripture calls the groundwork of all that is good, is a broken and contrite heart that God will not despise. It does not pretend, it does not hide what is true, and it is willing to be known as we are. To say to God and to one another, we are in need and we cannot fix this alone, is not a mark of failure but of candor and trust. The apostle was not ashamed even in bonds, because his confidence was not in himself but in Christ. In the same way, your worth before God is not measured by your bank account or by whether you need help.

You and your husband are one flesh in a lifelong covenant, and it is good that you are facing this together. Do not let pride or fear of shame build a wall between you. Talk openly and gently about the options before you, listening to one another with honor. Wanting to avoid asking your parents comes from a good desire to be responsible, but needing help at times is not itself shameful. If help is sought, let it be sought humbly, honestly, and with clear understanding between you, your husband, and your parents, so that it does not create greater burden or confusion. It is wiser to humbly receive help offered in love than to remain trapped by high interest debt that only grows heavier. At the same time, it is wise to be content with few things rather than many, to live simply and to steward what God has given with care.

For the days ahead, bring your needs to the Lord with a practical and faithful plan. Ask Him for wisdom, for unity in your marriage, for discipline in spending, and for provision according to His will. Pray not only that the trading cards would sell for a good and fair price, but that God would guide you in using whatever comes from them well. Consider sitting down together to make a simple budget, listing income, necessary expenses, and debts, and seeking wise counsel from a trusted pastor or a faithful financial counselor in your church who can help you make a plan to get out of high interest loans and avoid them in the future.

Let us pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who alone is our Savior, I lift this wife and her husband to You. You know their debts, their worries, and the heaviness they feel. Forgive us where we have trusted in ourselves, and give them a humble and peaceful heart. Grant them wisdom to steward what they have, unity in every decision, and grace to speak truthfully to one another and to others. Provide for their needs as You see best, and give them contentment and hope in You whether much or little comes this weekend. Help them to walk in honesty, to renounce what must be hidden in shame, and to live as those who are seen and loved by You. Lead them out of this burden step by step, and teach them to trust You more than money. Amen.
