Missing them

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I've left three people out of my life recently, good reasons, but I miss them. I dream of one of them sometimes. I need to make new Friends, Jesus is a good friend and I ask in His Name to be able to overcome sadness and make new friends. Amen

We hear the ache in your heart and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord, for even when we make right and necessary decisions to step away from people for good reasons, there can still be grief and loneliness that follows. We commend you for recognizing that Jesus is a true and faithful friend and for asking in His name, for He is the One who sticks closer than a brother.

The Word reminds us in Proverbs 18:24 that a man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and in John 15:15 Jesus says, No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you. What a comfort that even in seasons of missing others and feeling the absence of familiar voices, we are never truly alone. We also hold to the promise in Psalm 34:18 that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, and in Psalm 147:3 that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Your sadness is not a failure of faith, it is a natural part of letting go, and even dreams can be part of how our hearts process loss, but God is near to heal and to restore.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus and lift up this dear one to You. Thank You for giving wisdom to make difficult but good decisions about relationships, and for being the faithful Friend who never leaves nor forsakes us. We ask You to comfort this heart that misses those who are no longer present, to heal the sadness and to bring Your peace that surpasses understanding. Lord, guard dreams and thoughts and fill the lonely places with Your presence. We ask that You lead to new, godly friendships, brothers and sisters in Christ who will encourage and sharpen and love at all times as Your Word describes in Proverbs 17:17. Help us to walk in fellowship as You call us to in Hebrews 10:24-25, stirring one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together. Provide a community of believers where this one can be known, encouraged, and strengthened, and help new friendships to be formed that honor You and are rooted in Christ. We thank You that You are already answering, that You see every tear and will bring joy again. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to draw close to Jesus daily through prayer and His Word, and to seek out fellowship among believers where Christ-centered friendships can grow. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 we are reminded that two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor, for if one falls, the other will lift up his companion. Ask the Lord to open doors to a Bible believing church family, a small group or service opportunity where you can meet others who love the Lord, and be intentional to reach out, for godly friendship often grows as we show ourselves friendly and bear one another's burdens. The Lord who has been your faithful Friend will surely provide companions for the journey ahead, and He will turn this season of sadness into a testimony of His comforting and restoring love.

We hear how tender this place is for you. You made hard, wise choices to step away from three people, and you still miss them. It makes sense that sadness lingers and that one of them shows up in your dreams, grief does not mean you made the wrong decision, it just means those connections mattered.

We are encouraged that you name Jesus as your friend and bring this to Him so honestly. He is with you in this quieter season, and He also made us to need people alongside us.

Friendship often grows slowly through simply showing up in the same place regularly and gradually letting people know you. One steady next step that helps many who feel lonely is to choose one consistent community to be part of each week where you can see the same faces, a small group, a Sunday service where you linger afterward, a serving team or class built around a shared interest. Over time, being nearby and sharing a little of your story as trust builds gives friendships space to form.

You do not have to rush to replace what was lost. It is okay to hold both gratitude for the boundaries you set and sadness for what you miss.

Father, thank You for being a faithful friend to our brother and sister. Comfort this ache, lift the sadness, and gently lead them to new, kind friendships in Your timing. Give them courage to keep showing up and to be known little by little. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a tender and honest sorrow you bring before the Lord, and He hears it. To miss those you have rightly left behind is not a sign that you did wrong, but that your heart is still human and still feels the ache of separation. There are seasons when the Lord Himself turns us to sadness, and there are seasons when He restores unto us the joy of His salvation, and both the sadness and the gladness come from the same hand. The psalmist prayed, Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us, and so we may ask that the God who permitted the sorrow will also provide the comfort in its measure.

Sorrow is often the herald of joy. Job did not know it while he sat in ashes, but the taking away was the preparation for the Lord to give him twice as much as he had before. So do not think that this lonely interval will be wasted. The Lord who has taught you to forsake what was not good for your soul is able to make all things new, and to make you new, and to restore a gladness that shall balance this heaviness.

You have done wisely if for good reasons you have forsaken former companions. I have known many who, when they became new creatures in Christ Jesus, have rightly and wisely given up the acquaintances with whom they used to sin, or by whom they were hindered. It is painful, and it is right to feel the pain, yet it is better to walk a strait path with few companions than a broad road with a multitude to lead you astray.

Remember also the loneliness of our Saviour. He was left alone just when as Man He most needed human sympathy, His chosen friends forsook Him, yet He could say, The Father is with Me. By a matchless exercise of faith He fell back into the arms of His Father and was sustained. So it shall be with you. Down to the river's brink wife and children and friends may go with us, but there is a place where only Christ can go with us, and blessed be His name, He does go with us. He is a friend that loveth at all times, a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. He does not love us only when we are bright and strong, but at all times, and His joy no man taketh from us when once He hath made us glad.

You say truly, Jesus is a good friend, and you ask in His Name to overcome sadness and to make new friends. You are His friends if ye do whatsoever He commands you. Keep close to Him in obedience and love, for intimacy between you and Christ is disturbed by sin, but cherished by loving obedience. And as you would have friends, show yourself friendly. Be friendly to all, but be slow to write the word friend over any new name. Try them, test them, know them and let them know you, for true friends are very scarce and not to be chosen in haste like those who find a new friend at every coffee house. Look for those whose love is warm and constant, who will tell you openly of your faults and cling to you in fair weather and foul, and above all who love the Lord Jesus and will help you love Him more.

It is natural that you should dream of one of them, for the heart revisits by night what it has left by day. Bring even those dreams to Christ in prayer, and ask Him to keep your affections fixed upon Himself, that your eyes be not turned to look upon what would draw you back.

May the Lord make you glad according to this sorrow, may He keep you in the friendship of Christ which never fails, and may He in His own time set you among faithful, warm hearted companions in the household of faith who will love you hard and fast and help you on to heaven. We will pray with you that in the Name of Jesus, who is the sinner's friend and laid down His life for His friends, your sadness may be overcome and your path may be brightened with holy and helpful fellowship.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is painful to miss people even when you know you made the right decision to step away, and it is natural that sadness lingers and even comes in dreams. God sees that ache and He does not despise a contrite and humble heart that turns to Him honestly.

Your prayer is good and right to bring to Jesus, for He is the true friend who remains when other relationships must end. Scripture shows that life is often interwoven with both sadness and gladness, and seasons of cutting off what is harmful bring sorrow even as God is working for your good and leading you toward joy. The friendship that is according to Christ is deeper than mere companionship, it is a love that seeks the good of the other's soul, that does not say mine and thine in a selfish way but cares faithfully and truthfully. That is the kind of friendship to pray for and to become for others.

I pray for you in the name of Jesus, that God would comfort your heart, lift the heaviness of sadness, heal the memories that visit you at night, and give you peace about the boundaries you needed to set. I pray that He would lead you to new friendships that are healthy, faithful and centered on Christ, friends who will encourage you in truth and walk with you in love, and that He would help you to be such a friend in return. May the Lord guide you into fellowship where you can know and be known, serve and be served, and grow together in Him.

Keep seeking Him daily in prayer and in His Word, and stay close to the life of the church where such friendships grow. As you walk with Jesus as your closest friend, trust that He will provide companions for the journey in His timing and will turn this season of loss into a season of renewed joy.
