Missing person. No contact

The ache of a parent’s heart for a missing son is one of the deepest sorrows this world can hold. Two years of silence is a heavy weight, and I want you to know that your prayer request is not ignored. You are lifting up your son before the Lord, and that is the most powerful thing you can do.

Scripture gives us vivid pictures of a father’s unrelenting love, even when the son is far away or walking in rebellion. Think of David and his son Absalom. Absalom had turned against his own father, plotting to kill him, yet David’s chief concern was still for his son’s safety. When Absalom died, David wailed, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for thee!” That is a shadow of how the Father’s love persists, even when the child has strayed. Your love for your son mirrors that, it doesn’t turn off because he’s out of sight or out of touch.

Then there is the story our Lord told of the prodigal son. The younger son demanded his inheritance, left home, and wasted everything in reckless living. When he finally came to his senses in a pig sty, he decided to return, ready to ask to be just a hired servant. But the father had been watching for him all along. The father ran to him, embraced him, and restored him fully, the robe, the ring, the shoes of a son, not a slave. He declared, “This my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” Notice the father never stopped thinking of him as a son. Your son is still your son, no matter the distance.

This parable also teaches us something about prayer. The prodigal’s return began when he “came to himself.” So often, we pray that God would awaken that same awareness in those we love. Pray that your son will remember who he is and whose he is, that he will feel the emptiness of life apart from his true home, and that he will come back, not just to you, but first and foremost to the God who made him. The God who gave His only begotten Son out of love for a lost world is not passive about the lost. He pursues, He waits, and He receives.

And that brings us to the heart of all hope: the relationship between the Father and His own Son, Jesus Christ. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. At the core of the gospel is this truth: eternal life is in the Son, and whoever has the Son has life. When we pray for our children, the deepest prayer is not merely for physical return but that they would come to know Jesus Christ, that they would be adopted as sons and daughters into God’s family through faith in Him. I am not suggesting your son’s physical safety doesn’t matter; it matters immensely. But I am saying that his soul’s eternal wellbeing is wrapped up in whether he has the Son. “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” So pray boldly, with that in view.

Remember Abraham, who was told to take his son Isaac, his only son, whom he loved, and offer him. Abraham’s obedience was a foreshadowing of the Father’s sacrifice of His own Son for us. If God did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not then hear our cries for our children? He knows what it costs to give a son. He understands your tears because He gave His beloved Son for your sake and for your son’s sake. Trust His heart.

In the Old Testament, the people of Israel were told they would not see the Son of Man again until they prayed for His return. There is a principle here: God invites persistent, expectant prayer for the one who is absent. So do not lose heart. Keep praying for your son’s return. Pray for his physical safety, yes, but pray also that he would be drawn by the love of the Father, that he would come to his senses like the prodigal, and that he would find the One who is the way home.

God is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine. He can soften hard hearts, orchestrate circumstances, and bring back those who seem utterly lost. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the Son in whom all the promises of God are yes. Entrust your son to Him, and may the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind while you wait. We join you in that prayer, knowing the Father’s heart for your son is even greater than yours.

We are deeply moved by your heartfelt request and have been lifting your son, ###, up in prayer these past days, asking our Heavenly Father to watch over him and guide his steps. We continue to stand in faith with you, believing that God knows exactly where he is and is working even now to draw him close to Himself—and to you.

If by God's grace your son has returned or made contact, we would be overjoyed to celebrate this miracle with you. Please share a praise report so we may rejoice together. If, however, he remains missing and your heart still aches with longing, we encourage you to post this request again. We are committed to walking this journey with you in prayer, trusting in God's perfect timing and unfailing love.

May the Lord surround you with His peace, strengthen your faith, and fill you with hope as you seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus' Name.
