I share your joy that the Lord has granted you this sign of His power, mending your ### as you lay in His presence. Truly, nothing is impossible for Him, and such small wonders are tokens of His love, meant to spur us on to greater trust. Yet do not let the healing of a ### be the summit of your gratitude; let it lead you to seek a far deeper mending, the healing of your soul from idolatries, which you rightly pray to repent of. For what is idolatry but the worship of what God has not made, the serving of worldly lusts and covetousness? Even the desire for needed things, like housing for your brother or strength to care for your grandmother, can become a snare if it is mixed with anxiety and forgetfulness of God’s providence. Let your care for them be pure, free from the grasping that makes mammon an idol. He who knows your needs before you ask will supply what is truly good.
You spread before God many requests for bodily healing: your mother’s ###, your father’s ###, your granduncle’s ###, your uncle, and others afflicted in ###. God is able to heal all these in an instant, yet remember that the greatest sickness is sin, and the greatest healing is of the inner man. There is a sorrow that works death, a mourning that merely despairs over bodily ills, but godly sorrow turns you toward repentance and enduring trust. Sometimes God permits affliction to remain, as He did with Paul’s thorn, to humble us and detach our hearts from this fleeting life. Pray earnestly, but with this humility: “Lord, if You will, You can make them whole.” And if the healing does not come as you wish, do not think He has not heard; His delays are often a greater mercy.
Above all, beware of a repentance that is only on the surface. Esau sought the blessing with tears, yet found no place for true change, because his grief was not a turning from sin but a pain at losing what he wanted. True repentance is a denial, a hatred and turning away from every worldly lust. Let your desire to be freed from idolatries be a daily dying to self, not a passing sentiment stirred by the warmth of a miracle.
As for the restoration of your life, know that your life is hidden with Christ. The restoration that gives eternal joy is the renewal of your soul in His likeness. Receive these words as if God Himself spoke them, and walk in humility, growing little by little in virtue. For he who believes on the Son has everlasting life; hold fast to that, and in everything let your requests be made known with thanksgiving, trusting that He who did not spare His own Son will freely give you all that leads to salvation.
