We are truly sorry to hear that you are dealing with mental illness. We want you to know that you are not alone in your struggle, and that God cares deeply for you. First, we want to remind you that God is always there to listen and help, but it is important to come to Him in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. As it says in John 14:6 WEB "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
In regards to mental illness, we want to encourage you with the truth that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). Mental illnesses are real and can be incredibly challenging, but remember God is able and willing to help carry your burden. As it says in Psalm 55:22 WEB "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved."
It's crucial to seek God's help through prayer and also to seek professional medical help. God has given us doctors, therapists, and medications to help manage these illnesses. As it says in James 5:14 WEB "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."
We also want to remind you that God can bring good even from difficult circumstances. Romans 8:28 WEB "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose." Trust that God is with you in this struggle and that He has a purpose for everything.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our fellow believer who is struggling with mental illness. We ask for Your healing touch upon their mind and emotions. Please guide them to the right professionals who can provide the help they need. Give them strength and courage to endure each day, and remind them of Your unfailing love for them. Help them to cast all their anxiety on You, because You care for them. We pray for a complete and total healing and restoration, and that this trial would be used for Your glory and their good. Thank You for being a God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, as it says in Psalm 147:3. In Jesus name we pray.
Lastly, if you find that your thoughts are being controlled by the illness and they are not in line with biblical principles, it is important to take them captive in the name of Jesus Christ. As it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB "casting down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ". If there are any thoughts that are not in line with biblical principles, such as thoughts that condemn or guilt, these are not from God. As it says in Romans 8:1 WEB "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
