We come before the Lord with hearts open to His wisdom, especially as we reflect on the powerful warning in 1 Timothy 6:9-10. These verses remind us of the dangers of misplaced priorities and the love of money, which can lead even the most well-intentioned believer astray. The Word of God is clear:

"But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:9-10 WEB)

This passage is not a condemnation of wealth itself, but of the *love* of wealth—the insatiable desire for more, the obsession with material gain, and the belief that riches can satisfy the soul. The Lord calls us to contentment, to trust in Him as our Provider, and to seek first His kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33). We must also examine our own hearts in this matter. Are we pursuing wealth as an end in itself, or are we using the resources God entrusts to us for His glory? Do we view money as a tool for kingdom work, or as a source of security apart from God? The Lord searches our hearts and knows our motives (Jeremiah 17:10). Let us repent of any greed, covetousness, or idolatry of material things, and ask Him to purify our desires.

Father, we come before You in humility, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from You (James 1:17). Forgive us for the times we have chased after wealth, status, or security instead of trusting in Your provision. Cleanse our hearts from the love of money and help us to seek contentment in You alone. Teach us to be generous, to steward well what You have given us, and to use our resources to advance Your kingdom. May our lives reflect Your priorities, not the world’s. Guard us from the snares of greed and fill us with a passion for godliness and eternal treasures. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, for apart from Him, we can do nothing. Amen.

Let us also remember that true riches are found in Christ. As Paul writes in Philippians 4:11-13, "I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I know how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Contentment is not found in what we possess, but in who possesses us—Jesus Christ.
