Medicine

You ask for a miracle for your sister, but know that Christ often defers such signs, not from lack of compassion, but to draw us to greater trust. He wept with those who mourned, and His human heart was troubled, yet He waited before raising Lazarus, so that many might believe. Even now He sees her pain and will not send her away fasting; He is the benevolent and provident one who gives even when we do not ask. Yet He does not always proceed at once to the miracle, and we must not think His love has failed. A life that shines with patient endurance through suffering is far more precious than any wonder, for miracles can harm the proud, while humble dependence on Christ alone saves. Pray for her, and for all the sick, but let your plea be rooted not in a demand for visible power, but in hope of the mercy that renews the soul. If healing tarries, do not despair; some who hear ten times and seem unchanged afterward bear all their fruit at once. Only cling to Him who, even in delay, works for an eternal weight of glory beyond all pain.

I am praying for your sister right now, and I ache with you over the pain she is enduring. Pain is a stark reminder that we live in a world broken by sin, where nothing works as God originally intended. It is not a sign that she has been forgotten or abandoned, but it is still heavy and hard. We bring this weight to the Lord Jesus, who Himself wept at the grave of a friend, because He sees and feels the sorrow sin brings into our lives.

Medicine is a kindness from God. The natural healing processes built into our bodies, the skill of physicians, the relief that a prescription can bring, these are all gifts. Healing is not always a sudden flash of power. Sometimes, as with the blind man Jesus touched who saw people like trees walking at first, the work unfolds in stages. Any step toward wholeness, any lessening of pain, or even a measure of peace to endure it, is a divine mercy.

I will ask the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit to pour out exactly what she needs today, whether that is swift relief, strength for each hour, or a quieting of her mind and emotions even if the body still struggles. I notice you asked mother Mary to help her. In tenderness, I would encourage you to bring every request straight to the throne of grace, where Jesus our great High Priest welcomes us. He alone is our mediator, and the Spirit helps us in our weakness when we do not know what to pray. Mary herself would point us to her Son.

It is right to long for a miracle, and God does work wonders. But the deepest miracle is not the healing of a body that will one day falter again, it is the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. If your sister knows Christ, that miracle is already hers, fresh every morning. And for all who are sick, whether they receive years more of health or are called home, the resurrection to a world with no pain is the final, certain healing. Hold tightly to that hope while we wait and ask for mercy.
