Lord jesus. My heart is so broken and so heavy burdened. All i can say is help me. I dont know what else to ask for. Lord all my life for as long as i can remember. I have always visioned and seen my self married and being a father one day. But as i have gotten older i have began to realise that wasnt your plan for me and the dream of being something i always wanted to be as faded and my heart is broken. I have learned lord that sometimes desires dont come true and yes lord and there is terrible heart break in that realization but i still love you and i still trust you. I know you will continue to take care of me just like you always have. Even setting down with my brother and sharing with him how i feel. he has said i was better off alone and even my father has always told me all my life you will never be married. So maybe lord i do have a calling to be single and maybe thats why nothing has ever changed no matter how hard i have put effort in to it and tried. you lord have a higher calling for me. I Accept it and i answer it lord. but im still heart broken. My desire never came true. But i know lord one day you will explain it all to me. that day is coming i believe. In jesus name amen.

We hear the heaviness and brokenness in your heart and we come alongside you in prayer, thanking God that even in this deep disappointment you still love Him and still trust Him to take care of you. That is faith, and it honors Him. We do not take lightly the grief you feel over a lifelong desire for marriage and to be a father, a desire that is good and godly and placed in the heart by God Himself.

The Lord sees your broken heart and He is near to you. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We pray He will do that healing work in you now, not by taking away the tenderness of your desire but by giving you His peace and His purpose in the midst of it.

We also want to gently encourage you about the words spoken over you by your brother and your father. We understand they may have spoken out of what they have seen, but the power of life and death is in the tongue as Proverbs 18:21 teaches, and no man can declare your future. Only the Lord knows His plans for you. Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And Romans 8:28 reminds us We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. We rebuke any word that would curse your future or convince you that you are forgotten or unworthy of marriage, and we ask the Lord to silence those voices and let you hear only His voice.

Marriage is a holy and honorable calling, and the desire to be a husband and a father is not to be despised. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all. At the same time, singleness is also a holy calling when it is given by God. 1 Corinthians 7:7 says Yet I wish that all men were like me. However each man has his own gift from God, one of this kind, and another of that kind. And Matthew 19:12 speaks of those who have made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven's sake, for a higher calling. If the Lord is indeed calling you to remain single for a season or for a lifetime, He will give you grace and strength and deep contentment in that calling, and He will use your life in ways that a married man could not be used, for His glory. But we encourage you not to close the door in your own heart prematurely out of hurt. Psalm 37:4 says Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Sometimes that means He fulfills the desire, sometimes He reshapes it, and sometimes He fulfills it in a different way or timing than we expect. Only He knows.

Whether He leads you to a godly wife in marriage or to a life of devoted singleness unto Him, we pray that your courtship and relationships would honor Him, seeking a believing spouse for a lifelong covenant if marriage is His will, and fleeing from fornication and impurity, as we are called to honor Him with our bodies and our lives.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear brother to You. You know his tears and the weight he carries. We ask You to comfort his broken heart and to bind up his wounds. Give him Your peace that surpasses understanding and the assurance that You have not forgotten him and You will never leave him nor forsake him as Hebrews 13:5 promises. If it is Your will for him to be married and to be a father, we ask You to make that path clear in Your perfect timing and to prepare a godly wife who loves You, for a marriage that honors You. If it is Your will for him to remain single, we ask You to make that calling clear and to fill him with joy and purpose and fruitfulness in that calling, that he would know he is not alone, for You are with him, and that his life is deeply meaningful in Your Kingdom. Help him to not receive the discouraging words of men as Your final word, but to trust Your voice alone. Strengthen his faith as he waits on You, and help him to delight himself in You each day. We thank You that one day You will explain all things and wipe away every tear, and until then we trust Your good and perfect will. Isaiah 41:10 says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Fulfill that promise in him, Lord. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to remain faithful in fellowship, in prayer and in the Word, and to keep your heart open to the Lord's leading. You are not better off alone in the sense of being abandoned, for Christ is with you, and you are deeply loved and valued. We thank God for your surrendered heart that says even in heartbreak, I still love You and I still trust You. He will honor that trust.

We heard the honesty and weight in what you shared, and we thank you for trusting us with it. To carry for so long the hope of being married and being a father, and then to sense that may not be the path God has for you, is a real and painful loss. It makes sense that even while you are choosing to trust Him and accept what you believe He is showing you, your heart still aches.

Holding both surrender and sorrow at the same time is not a failure of faith. Grief is not only for the death of a loved one, it can also come when a long held dream or expectation fades, and it takes time to reorganize your inner life and daily hopes around that. The way you still speak of loving Him and thanking Him for His care even in disappointment says much about your steadiness with Him.

You took a good step in sitting down with your brother to put words to this. It helps not to carry this kind of sorrow only in private. Continuing to let one or two trusted people hear how you are really doing week to week, perhaps your brother or a pastor you trust, and staying rooted in regular worship and fellowship where you are known, can keep loneliness from settling in deeper and give that grief a place to be shared.

Father, we lift our brother to You in Jesus name. You see his tender heart and the burden he feels. Comfort him in this heartbreak, remind him daily that he is seen and valued by You, and surround him with faithful friendship and community. Give him wisdom and peace as he walks out the calling You have for him, and draw near to him with Your care. Amen.

Your prayer comes before the Lord with a broken and honest heart, and He who heals the broken in heart does not turn away from such a cry. You have said help me, and that short prayer is enough for Him who hears sad complaints and spies His image in weeping eyes.

There is a great ill you name, a broken heart, and there is a great healing provided for it. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, but the wound of the heart is deeper, and only one Physician can reach it. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. A word from Him, being His and coming home to the heart as His, brings healing to conscience and affection and desire. Calvary is the place for the healing balm rather than for the lancet and the knife. When He dwells with His people, pardon and healing come together, and though the pain may remain for a season, the heart finds rest in divine love so that it has no desire to complain against its God.

You speak of a lifelong desire for marriage and to be a father, and you must know that this desire in itself is pure and lovely. True religion is always a matter of desire. If you desire to fear God's name, that desire itself is accepted before Him even when you have no power to carry it into action. The Lord sees the desire to trust Christ, to love Him, to walk in His way, and He counts it precious. Your longing for a godly marriage, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman as God ordained, is not to be despised. It is a good desire, and God has seen it from your youth.

Yet you also speak with faith when you say you still love Him and still trust Him though the desire has not been fulfilled. Remember Joseph, who did not choose his trial nor his dungeon, and had no hand in the dreams of others, yet God sent and overruled all for good. So it is with you. You have labored and tried, and the way has not opened, and you now wonder if the Lord has a higher calling for you in singleness. Whether He calls you to marriage in His time or to serve Him in singleness, both estates can be holy unto the Lord when lived for His glory. Do not let the words of men, even of a brother or a father, become the voice of God to you. Men may say you are better off alone or that you will never be married, but the Lord alone orders your steps. Take heed to hear His voice in His Word with a simple and lowly heart, desiring to know His truth that you may sincerely live it.

You say I accept it and I answer it, but I am still heart broken. That is no contradiction. The apostle himself knew what it was to be in a strait, having a strong desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better, and yet to remain. God does not ask you to pretend the heart is not broken. He asks you to bring the broken heart to Him that He may bind it up. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. Bring your sorrow and lay it at the Saviour's feet where forgiveness and healing meet. Lie there in your weakness and let Him say to you, your sins are forgiven, and find that healing comes from the pardoning hand.

May the Lord grant you healing for your wound and rest for your soul. May He keep your desire pure before Him, and whether He fulfills it in this life according to His wisdom or keeps you for Himself alone, may you find that His grace is sufficient and that one day He will explain it all. He has taken care of you until now and He will not fail you.

We pray that the Sun of Righteousness may rise upon you with healing in His wings, that He would heal your broken frame, quiet your burdened heart, and cause you to rejoice in His love so that you make small account of present sorrow in light of His eternal care. May He give you contentment without hardness, hope without demanding, and faith to trust that not one good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly, in Jesus name, Amen.
