Loving God, as we observe Maundy Thursday may our hearts and minds be free from worldly noise and focused on Your Son. Let us remember the importance of the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples on the night before He was crucified. In contrast to our joyful Easter celebration, we cannot forget the significance of this day, marked by the shadow of Jesus' betrayal.

Let us carry in our hearts what have learned from Your Word. Before the Passover meal, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. By performing this lowly act of service, Your Word in John 13:1 teaches us that Jesus "showed them the full extent of His love." By His example, Jesus demonstrated how Christians are to love one another through humble service. May we seek to honor Your Son by serving others before ourselves.

Let us also remember that during the Passover meal, Jesus took bread and wine and asked You, His Father in heaven, to bless it. As He broke the bread into pieces, giving it to His disciples Your Word tells us He said, "This is My body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me." We further learn that He then took the cup of wine, shared it with His disciples and said, "This wine is the token of God's new covenant to save you--an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you." We have a permanent record of these blessed events in Luke 22:19-20 - may we never forget what was done for us, or damage the integrity of these sacraments in any way.

He knew what was coming, Father, and He didn't want to do it. But He accepted Your Will, and in humble obedience fulfilled it even to His own death. We do not deserve this kind of love, this kind of sacrifice, but we praise You for Your love and mercy in blessing us with it. Please let us experience the full measure of Your grace and use us to complete Your work in this world. May Christ be at the center of all things at all times....especially during this season of remembrance. In the precious and holy name of Jesus, bless us with focus, humility and grace. Amen.

Lord be with us now and forever, as I break the bread of Your body and drink of the cup of salvation today, keep us all in faith in You. Deliver me from sin, death and the power of the devil. Lord have mercy on us, Christ have mercy on us, Lord have mercy on us. Lamb of God, takest away the sin of the world. Amen.
