Christ offers true rest to all who are weary and calls you to trust him completely.
Come Ye Weary and Heavy Laden
God calls you to release every burden to him and trust his promise to sustain you.
The Heart of Jesus
Jesus invites all sinners to find rest in His gentle and humble heart.
We are so thankful you shared Matthew 11:28 with us, for it is one of the most tender invitations from our Lord Jesus Himself. In this verse Jesus is speaking directly to us, calling to all who labor and are heavily burdened to come to Him for rest. We love that you brought this promise forward, because it reminds us that true rest is not found in trying harder, in worldly solutions, or in carrying our burdens alone, but only in coming to Christ.

We know what it is to be weary, burdened by sin, sorrow, anxiety, work, family struggles, and the cares of this life. Jesus does not tell us to first fix ourselves or to become strong enough to come to Him. He simply says come. He invites us just as we are, weary and heavy laden, and promises that He will give us rest for our souls. The verses that follow are so precious as well, Matthew 11:29-30 where He says Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. His yoke is not the heavy yoke of the law or of trying to earn salvation, but the yoke of grace, of walking with Him and learning His gentleness.

We are encouraged also by 1 Peter 5:7 which tells us to cast all our worries on him, because he cares for you, and by Philippians 4:6-7 which reminds us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. This is the rest Jesus promises, a peace that guards our hearts even when circumstances remain difficult, because Psalm 62:1 says My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.

We also want to gently remind us together that this rest is only found through Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we have access to the Father and can come boldly to receive mercy and grace. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 tells us There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Coming to Jesus means believing on Him, that He died for our sins and rose again, and trusting Him as Lord and Savior. If we have not yet done so, this invitation to come is also an invitation to salvation and eternal rest.

We want to pray together with you now.

Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, thankful for Your invitation to come and find rest. We confess that we often try to carry our burdens alone and grow weary and heavy laden. Lord Jesus, we come to You now just as we are, and we ask You to give us Your rest. Teach us to take Your yoke upon us and to learn from You, for You are gentle and humble in heart. Forgive us for our sins and cleanse us by Your blood, and help us to cast all our cares upon You because You care for us. Fill our hearts with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Help us to rest in You alone and to walk daily with You, trusting Your easy yoke and light burden. We ask this in Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you for sharing that verse with us. Hearing that you are drawn to Jesus' invitation to rest tells us you may be feeling worn down right now, and we want you to know we are praying for you and you are not alone in that feeling.

It is a kind thing that Jesus invites those who are weary to come to him just as they are, without having to fix everything first. When burdens feel heavy for a long time, it can help to name what is weighing on you most and to bring it to him in simple, honest prayer throughout the day, even in a few quiet words.

If you have someone you trust, a pastor, family member or close friend, we encourage you to let one person know this week that you are feeling burdened and would value prayer and company. You do not have to carry this alone, and the Lord often brings rest through the care of others in the church family. If weariness is affecting your sleep, health or daily life, please also reach out to a trusted medical professional alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our friend to you in Jesus' name. You see the weariness and the burdens being carried. Draw near with your comfort and give rest for their soul. Guide them to the help and support they need and help them sense your presence day by day. Amen.

There is no sweeter word for a weary soul than this which you have quoted, for it comes from the lips of Him who cannot lie and who Himself is our rest. Our Lord Jesus says, Come to me, and He does not say come when you are more worthy, or when you have made yourself better, but come now as you are, weary and heavy laden.

He promises a present rest, rest now, not rest after death only, nor after a long probation, but rest given there and then when by an act of instantaneous faith you rely upon Him. Trust and you shall rest. It is a perfect rest too, and it touches every part of your nature, rest of conscience, rest of mind in fixedness of belief, rest of heart from its griefs and fears. The world cannot give it, and even the Church apart from Christ cannot give it. Like Noah's dove you may have flown wearily and found no place for the sole of your foot to rest upon, but there is rest in the ark, there is rest in Christ Himself when He puts forth His hand and draws you in unto Himself.

And there is a further rest for you if you have already come to Him. First He says, I will give you rest, and then He says, Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. The first is rest given, the second is rest found. It is the rest of a learner, a deep, growing, abiding rest, found more and more as your mind becomes like the mind of Christ and you walk with His yoke upon your shoulder. That yoke is not grievous, and to bear it is good for you, for it keeps your soul from wandering and makes Heaven itself more sweet when you shall enter into the glorious rest that remains for the people of God, where rest shall be perfect and without interruption.

May the Holy Spirit enable you even now to recline upon this promise. Come and rely upon Jesus with nothing to trust in of your own, and He will now give you rest. And having received that rest, may you learn of Him day by day, so that you may find that quietness of soul which abides like the stars that keep their courses and yet know no fatigue, till at last you enter into His heavenly rest which shall be glorious.

Christ's invitation in Matthew 11:28 is for all who feel the weight of sin, sorrow and weariness, and He alone can give true rest. That rest is not only relief in this life, but the lasting rest that remains for the people of God, as Scripture says. It is entered not by seeking honor from others or by trying to carry our burdens alone, but by coming to Jesus Himself in faith, confessing our need and trusting Him alone for salvation.

Coming to Him means taking His yoke upon us, learning from Him, and walking in His ways. Scripture warns us not to harden our hearts but to labor to enter that rest through faith and obedience. God in His love often weaves both hardships and refreshment into our lives, yet He is faithful to sustain those who look to Him.

We pray for you that you will hear His call today, turn from all that burdens your conscience, and find in Christ forgiveness, peace and strength for each day, and the hope of eternal rest with Him. May the Lord comfort your heart, give you wisdom, and help you to follow Him faithfully, and may the God of love and peace be with you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
