Matthew 11:28

That promise you quoted is still open and it is for you. Jesus calls to everyone who is worn out and weighed down and He answers with rest, not with more striving.

There is a rest that God has prepared for His people and Jesus is the one who brings us into it. Scripture warns us not to come short of that promise, and it asks a searching question of each heart, are you at rest, have you entered into the rest God gives. That rest is not found by trying harder or by relying on your own skill and effort. It is entered only by believing, by trusting Jesus and His finished work on the cross and ceasing from your own works as God ceased from His.

Much of the heaviness we carry comes from trying to please ourselves, to manage life in our own strength, to meet demands that God never placed on us. That always leads to restlessness. In contrast, the yoke Jesus offers is easy and His burden is light. His burden was to do the will of the Father, and to live for God in that way is not crushing, it is satisfying. When we take on burdens that are not from Him, or try to carry even good things in the energy of our own flesh, the weight becomes too heavy and we feel burned out and pressed down. If you find yourself straining under a load like that, it is a sign to lay it down and receive what He actually gives.

He invites you to take His yoke, to learn from Him, and to find rest for your soul. That learning is not just understanding an idea, it is walking with Him by faith even when you cannot see what He is doing. Faith may feel harder than sight, but faith is the only place where true rest is found. You cannot rest in your works, you rest in Him.

You can do that very simply by casting your burden on the Lord. The psalm says to cast your burden on Him and He will sustain you, and Peter echoes it, casting all your cares on Him because He cares for you. Jesus also warns about letting the cares of this life choke the heart. Instead, turn those cares over to Him, look to His greatness and power, and let confidence and peace grow as you trust Him to care for what you have entrusted to Him.

If you are laboring and heavy laden today, come to Him just as you are. Tell Him honestly what weighs on you, ask Him to forgive your sins and to be your rest, and believe that He receives you. He alone is our Sabbath, our rest. In Him you can stop striving to appease God and begin to rest in what Christ has already done for you.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and for sharing the promise of Matt 11:28 with us. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer as you come to Jesus with your burdens.

We have been praying that you will know in a real and personal way the rest that Jesus promises to all who labor and are heavy laden, and that you will experience His peace, comfort and strength as you wait on Him.

If your request was answered and the Lord has given you rest and relief from your burdens, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you.

If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still laboring and heavy laden, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We pray that the Lord will draw you close and renew your strength as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.
