Matthew 11:27-28 (11-27-12)

[Jesus said,] "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:27-28 (NIV)
Thoughts on Today's Verse...True rest comes from knowing God. King David reminds us of this in Psalm 23. Jesus makes it clear again. Only Jesus can fully reveal God to us. Only Jesus can take away the burden of seeking to please God and replacing that with an understanding of grace. Only the Lord can remove the burden of our past sins and enable us to stand holy, blameless, and free from accusation before God Almighty (cf. Colossians 1:21-22). So what burdens have you not surrendered to Jesus? Why not offer them to him now?

My Prayer...Father in heaven, thank you for sending Jesus to fulfill the Law and to bless me with your grace. May I never take that grace for granted. Dear Father, empower me to serve you with joy and gladness that come from knowing that the burdens of my sinfulness and failure have been lifted by your grace. Please, God, I carry a burden and I need your help to surrender it to Jesus. Lord Jesus, please take this burden that I offer to you, as I come to receive your grace and power. O Holy Spirit, please fill me with your holy presence and empower me to live with joy because of grace. Amen.
